  • Depth Dwellers 2.0 Beta — Update b1436 - 1 August 2026

Big change:The levels in the new engine were mirrored compared to the original, this has now been corrected. The downside is your current saves aren't fully supported by the fix, to fix this it drops you back at the start of the level you were on. Your score, weapons and keys are all stored on the player, so those carry over the same. All the enemies and prisoners get reset.Small change:Increased the rocket splash radius and ammo consumption. weapon dmgammo costPulser101HSPulser101FireBall151Grenade506Plasma10012Miner10012Rocket30030Added:M to toggle map on/off. • Depth Dwellers 2.0 — The Native Engine Update - 8 July 2026

The depths return — rebuilt from the ground up TriSoft's pioneering 1994 raycaster is back with a brand-new native engine. It's the same descent into the Zendle Mines to free the men of Ora from the Ri — the authentic levels, art, and enemy AI you remember — now running natively on modern Windows, no emulation required. ▶ How to play: press Play and choose "Play new_engine_BETA" from the launcher to drop into the new engine. This update is in beta — expect a few rough edges, and use the in-game bug reporter (F11) if you find one. The classic DOS builds are in that same launcher whenever you want them. ▶ Controls: the game starts with the original scheme — arrow keys to move and turn. Prefer WASD and mouse-look? Switch schemes or rebind every key in Settings → Controls. What's new A native engine in c++ The original raycaster recreated — free look up and down, depth shading, and enemies…

  • Added Option to Run Setup to change Controls. - 24 June 2025

Added the option to run setup, this will allow you to set different Controls. Just run the Setup Launcher for each version you want to change. I have only tested Keyboard and Mouse not the other control options. Additional changes: dos4gw to v2.01a and dosbox-staging to v0.82.2

  • Fixing 3D-stereoscopic mode - 26 May 2025

Apparently I broke 3D-stereoscopic when fixing the mouse movement. Should be fixed now.

  • Adding Version 1.73 and Fixing Mouse Movement - 25 May 2025

We found Version 1.73 in the bin of old CDs. I could not find any notes on what was changed. Mouse controls should now work. Updated the DOSBox Staging config file.

  • Version 1.6 Release - 25 April 2025

I removed Version 1.5 as it was shareware and not the official game. Added version 1.6 and updated the launcher to a command line to keep with the retro style.

  • Adding version 1.5 - 24 April 2025

Adding Version 1.5 has a option to play. Version 1.4 includes an improved sound/timer driver and runs 15% to 20% faster. Version 1.5 fixes a problem with the time clock and includes improved enemy AI.
