- Gearbound: Odyssey Development Update - 22 September 2026
Gearbound: Odyssey Development UpdateHello everyone,I wanted to share an update on Gearbound: Odyssey, where development currently stands, and what comes next for the project.Over the past several months, Gearbound has gone through a significant amount of work behind the scenes. Much of that development has focused on rebuilding and strengthening the game's core systems rather than pushing toward a release date before the game is ready.During that time, we've worked on:Major multiplayer and co-op restructuringLocal split-screen support for up to four playersCharacter swapping and player control improvementsExpanded weapon and inventory systemsEnergy weapons, ammunition systems, weapon wheels, and combat UIEnemy and companion AI improvementsCover, combat, navigation, and follower behaviorMovement, aiming, strafing, animation, and traversal improvementsMagnetic traversal systems, grinding…
- Gearbound: Odyssey Is Pulling Out of Steam Next Fest - 3 September 2026
Hello everyone,I wanted to share an important update regarding Gearbound: Odyssey and this year’s Steam Next Fest. After taking a close look at where the project currently stands, and more importantly where I want the game to go, I’ve made the decision to withdraw Gearbound: Odyssey from Steam Next Fest this year. This wasn’t an easy decision, but I believe it is the right decision for the future of the game.Taking the Time to Build a Stronger FoundationOver the next stretch of development, I’ll be doing a significant amount of refactoring and restructuring throughout Gearbound: Odyssey. There are systems that need to be cleaned up, foundations that I want to strengthen, and parts of the game that I want to reconsider before continuing forward. Some systems may be rebuilt entirely. Others may change as development continues.Rather than rushing to prepare a demo around the deadline of Next F…
- Gearbound: Odyssey Dev Update - Building the Next Fest Demo - 11 August 2026
Hey everyone! It’s been a few weeks since the last development update, and a lot has changed in Gearbound: Odyssey. Most of my development time recently has been focused on getting the Steam Next Fest demo into shape. That means building actual levels, polishing the systems already in the game, fixing problems that show up when those systems are used together, and improving a lot of the behind-the-scenes tools that help me build the game faster. Here’s what’s been happening. The Silent RelayWork is well underway on Level 1: The Silent Relay, which will make up a major part of the Steam Next Fest demo. The opening section of the level is now built, and the first major encounter is playable. The level introduces Ember, establishes the environment, teaches some of the core mechanics, and begins introducing the enemies and situations you’ll be dealing with throughout Gearbound. The current goal is…
- Gearbound: Odyssey Development Report - 21 July 2026
Hello, everyone!Development on Gearbound: Odyssey continues, and we have been making progress across several areas of the game. This update focuses on the new systems and improvements that have recently been added as we continue building the opening chapter and preparing the Steam demo.Expanded Weapon HandlingA large portion of recent development has focused on making weapons feel more responsive and connected to the player.Weapons can now use configurable scripted recoil, allowing each weapon to have its own recoil strength and behavior. This gives us more control over how individual weapons feel instead of applying the same movement to every gun.We have also expanded the weapon animation system with:Weapon holstering and unholsteringA dedicated weapon position while runningForward and backward movement while sprintingImproved weapon rotation while aimingVertical weapon movement based…

- Gearbound: Odyssey – Fresh Start, First Steps into Verdant Rise - 25 November 2025
Hey everyone,Today’s update is a big milestone for Gearbound: Odyssey, so I wanted to give a clear rundown of where the game is at and what’s actually playable right now.A Fresh Rewrite of GearboundWe’ve been hard at work rewriting major parts of the game to set up a stronger foundation for the future. This means systems, tools, and content are being rebuilt with long-term development in mind rather than quick prototypes. As a result, the current build is focused, small, and very work-in-progress but it’s finally something you can run around in and get a feel for.New Area: Verdant RiseThe first playable environment is now in the game:Verdant Rise – A lush overgrown zone that acts as our initial testbed for exploration, traversal, and combat pacing. Right now, it’s fairly minimal in terms of objectives, but it’s where all current gameplay content lives.Breakable BoxesYou can now smash th…
