- Observe 0.7.8: Save Games, Combat Rules and More God Mode Tools - 9 September 2026
Hello all! This update adds save games, reusable rule profiles, more control over combat and new ways to change the world through God Mode. Save a world and return later You can now save a running world and continue it later from the Scenario Editor. Open the new Saves tab, choose a saved world and return to the simulation. A save keeps the current date, countries, wars, active front lines, committed armies and losses. Saving waits for a safe point between turns so the world can resume without rebuilding an ongoing war from its beginning. The old Endless setting has also been divided into two clear modes. Loop starts a newly generated world when the current one ends. Endless keeps the same world running after one country remains, leaving you free to change it with God Mode. Save your preferred rules Game rules can now be saved as reusable profiles. Set up the kind of simulation you want…
- Join The Translation Effort! - 7 September 2026
We have moved Observe's community translation project from Crowdin to a self-hosted Weblate server. This lets us support every language our players ask us to add. German, Polish, Turkish and Ukrainian translations are already underway. French, Korean and Russian are now open for contributors too. HELP TRANSLATE OBSERVE You do not need to translate the entire game. Every translated or corrected sentence helps. If your language is missing, ask for it in the comments or join our Discord. I can add it to the project. JOIN THE OBSERVE DISCORD Thank you to everyone who has already contributed!
- Observe Needs YOU: Community Translations! - 5 September 2026
Hello all! Observe has grown considerably over the past few months and we now have a big international audience! I would like to make Observe easier to play for people who do not speak English as their first language, so I am opening a community translation project. The first translation A group of Polish players (Monika and Igilq) has already offered to begin translating the game into Polish. The first parts of the translation system are now working and translators can test their work inside the game without waiting for a new public update. Polish is the first language we started to work on. If you want your language to be listed and you would like to help translate it, leave a comment below and then join our Discord so we can communicate. I can add new languages as translators volunteer. How you can help Translations are managed through Crowdin. You do not need to translate the entire…
- Observe 0.7.6: Map Composer and New Map Modes - 5 September 2026
Hello all! This update makes the map more useful by letting you choose both what it shows and how that information is presented. Build your own map viewThe new Map Composer combines three separate choices: a base map, optional overlays and country labels. You can begin with the political, bloc, culture, terrain, supply, technology, ideology, alliance or nuclear map. You can also compare countries by stability, treasury, military strength or food supply. Flags, occupation, population, unrest and original ownership can then be placed over the selected map. Labels can independently show country names, soldiers, stability, treasury, food, population or nothing at all. This means you are no longer limited to one fixed map mode at a time. A military map can display flags and soldier counts, while a terrain map can also show occupied land and population. Clearer occupation Occupied regions now…
- Observe 0.7.5: Quality of Life - 3 September 2026
Hello all! Observe 0.7.5 is now available. This update adds better tools for recording the world, reusable ideology packs and much clearer feedback for AI Studio scripts. Choose what appears on screen Press H during a game to open the new Timeline View panel. You can now decide exactly what remains visible. World statistics, notifications, the date, time controls, News and Rankings, map controls, country labels and the bottom command bar can all be shown or hidden separately. The panel can also hide or restore everything with one button. It is designed for timeline videos, screenshots and anyone who wants an unobstructed view of the simulation. Save and share ideology packs A set of ideologies can now be saved as a reusable pack in the Scenario Editor. Load that pack into another scenario instead of recreating every ideology, bonus, doctrine and rule by hand. Ideology packs can also be…
- Observe 0.7.4: Better Graphics! - 1 September 2026
Hello all! This update gives the world map a new visual style and adds another set of improvements to the Map Editor. A new look for the world The political map now uses one sharp pixel grid instead of thousands of separate region images. Country colours remain familiar but borders, coastlines, selection and conquest are clearer and more consistent at every zoom level. Front lines, flags, tanks, jets and building icons have been adjusted to fit the new map. Visible front lines now run on the GPU, making active wars much smoother while leaving the CPU free for the simulation. Update log Map Editor Added an Erase Land brush that removes a region, its land fill and its boundary ink together.Reference images can now scale from 1% to 1000%.Changing reference-image scale no longer moves the image back to the centre.Added Fit Image to Map to centre and size a reference in one click.Reference-i…
- Better Map Tools and Safer Maps - 30 August 2026
Hello all! This is a smaller update focused on making the new Map Editor easier to use and much safer for large projects. More ways to draw The Map Editor now includes straight boundaries with a live preview and a one-pixel pen for detailed work. You can fill land, outline a landmass and paint regions without drawing every boundary first. Region outlines also use the boundary size you selected. New maps can use an 8192-pixel canvas for very detailed worlds. Large maps keep more of their painted detail when they are built, although this option requires a powerful computer and much more memory. Edit Earth or create a different world The built-in Earth map can now be imported into the Map Editor and changed like any other custom map. A map can also decide whether its left and right edges connect. Maps without connected edges now stop at a clear world boundary instead of repeating forever.…
- Observe 0.7.2: Draw Your Own World! - 28 August 2026
Hello all! Observe 0.7.2 is now available. The main feature is something I have been asked about for a very long time: a complete custom Map Editor inside the game. You can now draw a world from an empty canvas, divide it into regions, turn it into a scenario and watch countries fight across it. Draw your own mapThe Map Editor is available from the Scenario Editor. Start a new map, choose its resolution and draw boundaries directly onto the canvas. Close a shape and fill it to create a region. The editor includes tools to: Draw and erase boundaries.Fill enclosed shapes as new regions.Merge and erase regions.Inspect automatically generated adjacency and override individual connections.Generate and edit sea zones.Preview the thickness of frontlines against the borders you drew.Undo and redo painting changes. When you build the map, Observe creates the region shapes, borders, adjacency, co…
- Observe: Performance Update & News on the Map Editor - 27 August 2026
Hello all! I have released a small update focused almost entirely on performance. Performance improvements A few calculations that looked harmless were doing far more work than intended once countries became extremely large. Normal scenarios often hid these problems but stress-testing a world where every region began as an independent country exposed them very clearly. And if you're wondering about that scenario here it is: The affected systems included manpower generation, frontline captures, cultures, food, population and parts of the in-game UI. These systems now reuse calculations instead of repeatedly scanning the same country and its regions. Nothing about the simulation has changed. Countries use the same bonuses, frontlines choose targets in the same order and food, population and culture follow the same rules. The game should run much more smooth. Especially in the late game wh…
- Observe 0.7.1: Better Wars, Smarter Empires & UI Scaling - 25 August 2026
Hello all! 0.7.1 is built mostly from the things people asked for after playing 0.7.0. It adds interface scaling, more control over ideologies, better subject information, stricter naval AI rules, a new Bloc map mode and several fixes for the simulation underneath them. Thank you to everyone who reported a problem or explained where a tool was difficult to use. This update is the direct result of that feedback. Interface Scaling The interface can now be made larger or smaller from the options menu. This applies across the game, including the main HUD and the Scenario Editor. The Scenario Editor also supports edge scrolling now. It uses the same edge scrolling option as the main game, so map makers do not need to manage two separate settings. More Control Over Ideologies Ideologies can now change more parts of a country. New bonus types cover military, economic, political and population…
- Hotfix, Yes There Was Lag. - 23 August 2026
The 0.7.0 update had a progressive lag issue. Now fixed, game might even run better than ever. As always thanks for all the support and sorry for the lag!
- Observe 0.7.0: Cultures, God Mode, Terrain, Food & Subjects - 23 August 2026
Hello all! This update started with cultures. I wanted a country to contain actual peoples rather than one population number and I wanted those people to matter when borders moved. That sounded like one system. It turned into terrain, food, farms, subjects, a rebuilt God Mode, a new way to read the news, new tools for the Scenario Editor and a fairly serious rewrite of AI Studio. So this is 0.7.0. It is a large update. Cultures and Peoples Every populated region can contain different peoples. Polish, Czech and Slovak people can belong to a wider West Slavic group, for example. Members of the same group are culturally close without every relationship needing to be entered by hand. That matters when countries conquer land. A diverse state has more to hold together. A people that is badly treated can rise up and form a breakaway country of its own, with an appropriate name and a generated…
- Bug Fixes & AI Behaviour Balancing. - 13 August 2026
Hello again, Sorry to spam these updates but someone on Discord found a bug regarding the ideologies caused by yesterday's behaviour update. Basically, the AI didn't pick any ideologies before a war was declared. Now that's fixed. And I also made a few balance changes: -AI now will randomly pick a behaviour at the start of the game if none was assigned. -AI will now try to make more realistic naval invasions. -AI will now control its money better. See y'all on the next update!
- Observe 0.6.10: AI Personalities & Frontline Settings & Arena Fix - 13 August 2026
Hello all! This update starts with an apology. If you entered a script into the Arena, changed it and tried to send the better version, the arena kept showing your old one. There was no way to replace it. That has been true for about two months and I only caught it recently, which is not a good look for a feature whose entire point is that you iterate on a script until it wins.It is fixed. Send an edited script again and it replaces what you had. Nothing was reset as far as the scores go.With that out of the way, the rest of this update is mostly things you asked for. AI PersonalitiesCountries that play differentlyUntil now every AI country wanted the same things in the same order. The only thing separating two of them was a hidden roll made when the world was built which nobody could see and nobody could set.Now you can tell a country how to play. There are seven to choose from.Balanced…

- Observe 0.6.9: Flags! - 11 August 2026
Hello all!Flags have been asked for since about the week the game came out and every time I looked at it I put it off. Because "just add flags" is never just adding flags. The scenario data had to change but today I finally got around to it.A poll on Discord finally decided the shape of it. Most of you did not want flags sitting in a menu somewhere, you wanted them on the front line, standing with the troops. So that is where I started and everything else grew out of it. Flags On the map and in the panelsCountries fly their flags now. The country panel, the rankings, the ledger, the war pacts and the end of game report all show you whose something is before you read a single word. The front line wears them too. The infantry holding each side of a war are marked with their own country's flag instead of a plain dot.Every country in the 2025 scenario has one. Make your ownAny country in you…
- Bug Fixes for 0.6.8 - 9 August 2026
Hi, I fixed some of the bugs that were brough to my attention. Scenario Editor population fields were wrongfully limited to 100M. Fixed.Disabling nukes didn't do anything in many cases. Now they should be disabled. Some UI interactions caused the WASD keys to not work. Now fixed. There are still some bugs waiting to be fixed, but these were the most urgent ones. I will keep continuing to fix bugs and then go back to adding new features!Enjoy.
- Observe 0.6.8: Frontline Visuals! - 9 August 2026
Hello all! This has been one of the most requested features since release and I have been working on variations of it for over a year. Some of you might remember our earlier attempts, like the text-on-map showing army numbers without visible troops, which didn't read all that well. Very dedicated players will also remember my attempts to make visible troops happen last year. While it somewhat worked, it was a massive performance hog.Well, today I am proud to announce that I finally got it right! Let me show you what it looks like: Dynamic Frontlines & Visible CombatWars are now physically drawn on the map. The border between fighting countries becomes an active front line that pushes and pulls as ground changes hands. Here is what you can expect to see on the battlefield:Troops holding the line: Infantry stands along each side, armor fires across the border and the total committed strengt…
- Observe 0.6.7: Scenario Editor & Nuke Controls & UI & Live Country Creation - 7 August 2026
We have gotten a lot of new players over the past few days. Welcome, all of you. Let's get into it. Scenario Editor RulesetsUntil now every scenario played by the same rules. From this update, you choose them.Open Settings in the Scenario Editor and pick a preset: Classic for the game as it has always played, Realistic for a slower, more deliberate world, One-Shot for a map that resolves in minutes, or Chaos if you would rather it did not make sense. If a preset is close but not right, open the foldout and set the rules yourself. How long the world stays at peace before anyone can declare war. How much more expensive war gets as more of the world fights, so peace is cheap and chaos costs. How many wars one country may hold at once. How long truces last. Income and starting armies. Two of them change how empires hold together rather than how they fight. Conquest unrest decides whether swal…
- New Achievements & Bug Fixes - 1 August 2026
Hello again, Two bug fixes and 8 new achievements for today! Scenario Editor: publishing a scenario didn't upload the screenshot with it. Now it does. AI Studio: publishing a script was uploading a placeholder image instead of your code. It now grabs an actual screenshot. No more placeholder images... no more... We used to have achievements, but recent updates left them tied to features that no longer exist, so they became unattainable. Now there are 8 fresh ones that you can uhh.. achieve! They cover god controls, publishing to the Workshop, the leaderboards and the Arena. See you on the next update!
