- Crit Happens! Demo Update Notes (July 24) - 24 July 2026
Quite a big update today... dice building has seen a bit of an overhaul. Before, when you bought a dice face, or chose a dice face at The Armory, it would show as a 0 and change its number to whichever slot you placed it. Now, dice faces will have fixed numbers, and will change the value of the slot they're placed in. What this means is that you could effectively swap out a 1 for a 6, this enhances the customizability of your dice. The demo might be slightly more difficult for a little while, as I work on rebalancing enemies and bosses around this new system. Feedback is appreciated!NewPurchased dice faces no longer change their value to match the slot they were placed in. Their value is not fixed, meaning you can have multiple of the same number of one dice.Campfires now guarantee a dice face with a value of 4 or greater when you choose to work on your dice.Elite and Boss battle shops…
- Crit Happens! Demo Update Notes #2 (July 20) - 20 July 2026
More fixes following the previous update earlier today. For the most part, these bugs will have affected those using a controller to play...NewThe old tutorial, that acted as a slideshow that would appear the first time you started adventure mode has been removed. The replacement was mentioned in the previous patch notes.FixesFixed a bug where the enemy info modal would appear after selecting a tool to attack while using a controller, and would remain visible for the rest of the battle.Fixed a bug where selecting down with a controller the moment the enemy turn ends would result in a soft-lock/crash.
- Crit Happens! Demo Update Notes (July 20) - 20 July 2026
Mostly a quick little hotfix, as I've noticed a bug with event rooms when playing with a controller causing the game to hard-lock. A new tutorial has been implemented as well, which takes place during the first combat scenario. Because I've had to rush this update out, the previous tutorial will still open when starting a run for the first time. On top of that, I'm also aware of an issue with enemy modals popping up when pressing certain inputs using a controller - I'll also be issuing a quick update for that very soon, possibly later today.NewIf it's your first time playing, you will now be prompted with an optional tutorial during your first combat scenario.FixesFixed a bug where the game would hard-lock if you selected the event room on the map while playing with a controller.
- Crit Happens! Demo Update Notes (July 14) - 14 July 2026

- Crit Happens! Demo Relaunch + Update Notes (June 18) - 18 June 2026
The demo for Crit Happens! is live once again! After taking down the demo to work on a combat overhaul, I'm finally ready to make the demo public again. I've spent a long time re-working systems, fleshing out the game's mechanics, and polishing what I could following player feedback. A lot has changed since the last time the demo was up, so I'm hoping for a lot of new feedback!UpdatesCombat system overhauled.Trinkets have been removed from the game entirely.Tools are a new item type that has been added to the game.Tools bring a new deck-building element to the game. The attack button has been removed...Tools act as your attack method, determining which enemies are targeted as well as how your attack generally behaves.Tools are drawn like cards at the start of combat, and are played in order to attack. Each class has a series of "starting" tools, and more tools can be added via events or t…
- Crit Happens! Demo Update Notes (March 3) - 3 March 2026
This new update offers quite a big change to how turns are approached. Trinkets are no longer cycled through at random, instead they are manually selected. Trinkets themselves haven't been rebalanced to reflect this change yet, but feedback would be appreciated all the same. I'm still not happy with the current trinket system, so expect more changes soon.NewYou can now switch your active trinket during your turn. When you use a trinket it is now sent to a discard pile until all trinkets have been used up.You can now skip the reward screen animation.FixesFixed a bug where the order a controller would switch between dice would not reflect their positions after undoing a dice hold.Fixed a bug where a combination of the potion bomb relic and the ice dice could trigger a soft-lock.

NewReworked all dice artwork.FixesFixed a bug where the sword dice would initially be displayed as a bomb dice when crafting at a campfire.*I've received numerous requests for a way to unhold dice that were accidentally held. I'm working on an update that will allow you to "undo" your last held dice as long as you haven't rolled again since. Expect this update within the next two days!
