We've updated the Beta test version of Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption with a candidate for version 2.0. In your Steam library, right-click the game name, select Properties, then the BETAS tab, then "beta - Build Candidate". No access code is required. This build contains several new options under the Settings menu. There are additional options for unusual screen resolutions. There is also a Languages tab. We are currently testing the French language localization. We also have a partially complete Simplified Chinese version. To change languages, click on the arrow next to your current language until the display changes to the language you want to use. The Super Gluey is now active. October 8, 2019 — It’s the pre-holiday rush, and in video games, that means an onslaught of blood, guts, and “hard-hitting”, depressing narratives. Yes, violent games are fun, but sometimes you’re just not in the mood, and some indie games have gotten so obsessed with making a point that it’s started to feel… pointless. Wouldn…

Version 1.5 of Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption released! We have just released Version 1.5 of Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption. This is a small change in nomenclature – We might have called it Patch 5 previously – but it contains some big quality of life improvements to the game. Graphical version of this announcement. Version 1.5 includes: Added a version label to the Start Menu, especially for GOG players who do not get automatic updates. Fixes to the “pacifist” route against the Wraith King. Using the Null runestone against the Wraith King will now behave more logically. Thomas can only be given the One and Only Ring once. Cleaned up an inconsistency with “Lockpicking” and “Tool Use” in the user interface. Improved appearance of the Tentacle Monster. Tweaked sound effects and particle effects on monsters. - New Build - "Patch 4" - is Live! - 12 January 2019

Steam will automatically give you the new update when you play the game. The biggest changes are in the Settings page - now also available from the main menu. A much-requested feature is the ability to speed up character (including monsters and other non-player characters) in the game. If you like a faster pace, this feature is for you. Character animation might look a bit strange at higher speeds. Also added to settings are options for switching between full screen and windowed mode and some other options for the adventurous. "Done" items in the Jou…

They are a time when the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead becomes stretched thin. With the proper preparation, communication with the dead becomes possible at this time of year. Halloween has always been one of our favorite holidays. What’s not to like about creepy decorations, people in costumes, and candy? This year Lori and Corey will celebrate with a live stream on the Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption channel on YouTube. We’re still setting it up, but what could possibly go wrong? :-) Oct. 31 from 1 pm PDT until probably 1 am on Nov. 1. The channel is Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption on YouTube. - How Hero-U avoided disaster to resurrect '90s adventure game nostalgia - 2 August 2018
Six years, two Kickstarter campaigns, and one home equity loan later, Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption has finally been released. “A year after the first Kickstarter we were approached by an outside investor,” says Corey Cole, part of the husband-wife team behind Hero-U. “We would’ve gotten half a million in additional funding. The problem was they wanted 50% of the game’s sales for life. At the time we felt it was too much to give up. Had we looked into our crystal ball in 2015 or 2017, we would’ve jumped on that.” I spoke to both Corey and Lori Cole about the lengthy, yet passionate development of Hero-U, an adventure-RPG modeled after the 1990s Sierra series that once made them design icons: Quest for Glory. After being Kickstarted the same year as Double Fine's Broken Age, Hero-U finally, and quietly, released on Steam on July 10. If…

- Patch 1 is Live! - 31 July 2018
We've pushed a major update we're calling "Patch 1." Through the magic of Steam, all players will automatically get it. Anyone who switched to the beta version of the game to help us test this patch - currently it's the same as default/Live, but if you don't feel adventurous, you might want to "opt out of all betas" for now. That way you won't be surprised by a future update. The major reason for this patch is to fix a problem some players have experienced with Shawn's movement being "wonky." He would appear to walk in place, then rapidly move a short distance, then walk in place again. We previously suggested a work-around involving setting monitors to 60 Hz and/or disabling GSync. Those work-arounds should no longer be necessary. However, that is far from the only update. We have fixed dozens of bugs and exploits (leaving a few in for fun). We've also made a number of small correction…
- What we're working on July 2018 - 17 July 2018
The initial game reception has been very positive, for which we are happy and grateful. Still, one of the nice things about the digital era is that we always have a chance to fix, tune, and refine the game. The first released version has one major issue that only affects some players, but is our top priority currently. That has to do with Shawn not walking properly; he appears to walk in place or close to it. A suggested work-around is to set your monitor to 60 Hz. We're working on a more general solution that will not require players to change their settings. As soon as that's tested, we will release our first patch. We've also increased walking and sneaking speed by 10%, and reduced the rate at which time passes while moving. These are small improvements to the game "quality of life" that several players have requested. Running speed will stay the same. Several players have spotted th…
