  • Devblog #4 Trade, economy & goods - 24 October 2025

Today’s devblog focuses on the everyday foundations of life at sea – economy, goods, and ships. As it turns out, it’s the choices about barrels of water and a few extra kilos of cargo that often decide whether a voyage ends in profit... or stranded on a sandbank with a hungry crew. Economy, Caribbean-style The economy in Caribbean Tide behaves much like Caribbean weather – it has its rules, but also its moods. Every coin, item, and trade matters, and it doesn’t take long to realize that what’s worth a fortune today might only fetch a smile and a handful of dry biscuits tomorrow. Types of goods Goods fall into two categories – those carried personally by the player, and those stored in the ship’s cargo hold. Both categories share three simple attributes: weight, maximum stack, and price. Inventory – personal equipment Everything the player can carry – weapons, food, treasures, expedition…

  • Devblog #3 – Land & naval combat | Part 1! - 26 September 2025

This devblog has been split into two parts. The subject of combat is so extensive that one entry would be far too long. Today’s focus is entirely on naval combat, while next week a separate post will cover land battles. Three durability bars and the crew counter Every ship in Caribbean Tide has three durability bars and a separate crew counter. This design allows for varied tactical approaches during battles. Hull - the strongest element of the ship. Destroying the hull leads to sinking. Heavy artillery and armor-piercing ammunition are most effective here. Masts - essential for sail support. Damaging masts limits the use of sails and reduces maneuvering capability. Targeting masts is a reliable way to slow down an enemy and strip them of initiative. Rigging and sails - directly affect speed and turning radius. Damaged sails slow the vessel down and make steering sluggish. Firing at sai…

  • Devblog #2 – Sailing Mechanics & Wind! - 22 August 2025

Wind in Caribbean Tide is not just a decorative detail on the horizon. It is the invisible hand that decides whether a ship cuts gracefully through the waves or stumbles across the sea like a tavern regular after too much rum. Direction and strength of the wind change dynamically, creating constant challenges. Sometimes it becomes a loyal ally, pushing the ship towards its destination at full speed. Other times, it shifts at the worst possible moment and turns a careful maneuver into a costly mistake. In naval combat, the difference between victory and defeat often comes down to positioning against the wind. A single poorly timed turn can turn a proud frigate into a drifting target for enemy broadsides. Travel Modes Traveling across the Caribbean is no small feat, so two modes of sailing are available: Normal mode – here, wind plays the leading role. Each type of ship has unique handlin…

  • Devblog #1: Welcome aboard! - 21 July 2025

Hey Captains! We’re kicking off the first devblog for Caribbean Tide – a game of high-seas adventure set in the 17th-century Caribbean. This is an open-world experience blending exploration, trade, crew management, and naval encounters across a vast map that covers the entire Caribbean basin. Long-distance voyages can be accelerated, although this comes with the possibility of running into random events along the way.Wind mechanics are a key part of the gameplay. The direction and strength of the wind have a real impact on navigation and positioning during naval battles – making good use of the conditions often gives a decisive advantage. There’s no traditional “game over” in Caribbean Tide. If a player’s character dies, they’ll be transported to a port doctor or a tavern, facing appropriate consequences, but the game continues. Details of this system will be discussed in future devblogs.…
