- Introducing Frame Generation - BGFG - 22 September 2026
Introducing BGFG - a universal frame generator that can be used with games, anime, and live-action content. Trained on tens of thousands of hours of gameplay it is one of the most accurate general purpose frame generators available today that requires zero game modifications to use. Special care has been put into reducing ghosting and UI smearing. When I shipped the rewrite of Borderless Gaming last year I mentioned that the primary motivator was to be able to ship new baseline features to extend the functionality and usefulness of Borderless Gaming so it can continue to be the tool you reach for to make PC gaming more enjoyable.Since then I've shipped Steam Deck support, BGProxy to make every game compatible, BGFX / BGUS (which I think you're all sleeping on how powerful BGFX really is, just look at the cool stuff you can do), and a list of compatibility and bug fixes that were long in…
- Legacy Branch - 12 September 2026
Hello all,For those that have been asking - if you prefer the legacy version of Borderless Gaming (9.6.0) and want to use it on Steam - you can now do so by setting your branch to 'legacy'.
- v1.4.0 - Steam Deck - 2 March 2026
BGFX now works on Steam Deck. How it works Install Borderless Gaming from Steam, open the app, pick a game, choose your effects. Borderless Gaming installs a Vulkan layer that hooks into your games automatically — you launch games the way you always do, from Steam, and the effects are just there. No desktop mode, no scripts, no extra software. Your presets are saved per game. Set it once and forget about it. One thing I keep seeing asked: you do not need to launch games through Borderless Gaming. Just configure your effects and launch your game normally. Built for Game Mode This is a new app written from scratch for SteamOS — not a port. I recreated Valve's Holo design language so it looks and feels like part of your Deck. Full gamepad nav, L1/R1 tab switching, the native on-screen keyboard, audio feedback on every action. Tweak effects while you play Press Left Stick + Right Stick + R1…
- v1.3.4 - 10 February 2026
All of the changes below are for BGProxy.Misc FixesFixed input issues introduced in the previous update. The mouse cursor should now work in Dishonored and other Unreal games again.Fixed some minor render issues.GPU spoofingYou can now make games think you have a different graphics card. Some games won't launch or will disable features if they don't recognize your GPU; this gets around that. Add a \ section to your bgproxy.ini (details below). OpenGL on DX12OpenGL games now present through a DirectX 12 pipeline. Best case is zero-copy via a shared texture, otherwise it falls back to async or synchronous readback depending on driver support.OpenGL contexts are automatically upgraded to the highest compatibility profile your driver supports, which lets the driver apply more optimizations while keeping legacy rendering working.Frame latency waitable is now waited on before rendering instea…
- v1.3.3 - 9 February 2026
BGProxy FixesBackground Behavior All games now continue rendering and playing audio when alt-tabbed. Keyboard and mouse input is blocked while the game is in the background, so you can type in other apps without affecting the game. Gamepad input still passes through. Tabbing back into a game no longer leaves keys in a pressed state. Stability Fixed crashes on startup for Yakuza 0, Metro 2033, Fallout: New Vegas, and others.Rendering Fixed the "wavy" / shimmering motion artifact at native resolution in Dishonored. Anti-aliasing and color accuracy are now preserved in games that use MSAA or sRGB when using flip model presentation. Major performance improvement for OpenGL games (KOTOR, StarStable Online, etc.) — rendering no longer goes through the CPU.Improved Proxy Detection for Unity & Custom EnginesPreviously, the installer only checked for graphics DLLs through static PE import analys…
- v1.3.2 - BGProxy - 7 February 2026
For years, Borderless Gaming has helped thousands of you wrangle stubborn games into borderless windowed mode. But there have always been two classes of games we've struggled with. The first: games with no windowed mode at all. Classic OpenGL games, older DirectX 8/9 titles, and even some modern DX11 games that change your desktop resolution and take over your entire screen. Without a window, Borderless Gaming had nothing to work with. The second: games that technically have a window, but fight you every step of the way. Older OpenGL and DirectX games that break, flash, or refuse to render properly when their window is moved or resized. This is why Borderless Gaming has accumulated dozens of profile options — delay timers, style overrides, resize workarounds — all to deal with games that don't cooperate. Even with all those options, some games just won't behave. Today, that changes. Int…
- v1.3.0 - 29 January 2026
New FeaturesSlang-based BGFX - Effects now use Slang as the shader foundation, enabling cross-platform support for the upcoming SteamDeck and Linux release. DX12 Renderer - DirectX 12 is now available and being A/B tested. If you experience issues, launch with --no-dx12 to use the DX11 pipeline. Profile-Guided Optimization - Effect compilation now uses PGO for your GPU rather than trying to be one-size-fits-all, so system resource usage at runtime has dramatically reduced and should resolve hammering of weaker GPUs.The cross-GPU resource sharing was fixed for Intel GPUsYou can now also set LUTs borders, and other custom textures in BGFX. Transparency can also be enabled so when combined you can do things like this: Coming Soon Vulkan renderer (with Linux release) Native SteamDeck/Linux support Resources The new BGFX effect format documentation and all effects are available at: github.co…

It’s no longer needed.Profiles can now be quickly created using existing profiles as a template.Fixed games with splash screens not having profiles applied.Fixed a bug that would cause Borderless Gaming to become unresponsive when Once Human was launched.Fixed an issue where sometimes moving the mouse during scaling would block rendering Effect compilation errors now get logged and display on the overlay during scaling modeIn multi-GPU systems such as those with integrated graphics, you can choose which GPU handles upscaling and running effects from the global settings menu. Feedback wanted.Fixed an endless loop where scaling fails but does not properly shutdown.
- v1.2.0 - BGFX - 10 January 2026
BGFX is a new mode for Borderless Gaming that captures game windows at the compositor level and processes them through a GPU effect pipeline. If you can see it on screen, BGFX can capture it and upscale it.100% game compatibility Games that never worked with BorderlessGaming, like Dishonored, titles that reset after being made borderless, or anything with unusual window handling—now work. Built-in upscalingRun games at lower resolutions, upscale to native. We ship FSR, NIS, GSR, Anime4K, NNEDI3, RAVU, and dozens more. Works on any content; games, video, anime. History and feedbackEffects can access up to 7 previous frames and their own prior output. Build temporal AA, motion blur, accumulation effects. Mouse inputEffects can read cursor position and clicks. Build effects that respond to where you're looking. Window modeRender to a separate window instead of fullscreen. Background effect…
- Borderless Gaming v1.1.3 - 4 January 2026
This update brings multi-language support, a new compatibility mode for troubleshooting stubborn games, and several quality of life improvements. Multi-Language Support Borderless Gaming now supports multiple languages (again)! The entire UI has been localized in 31+ languages and language files are easily customizable. If you want to contribute a new language, join the Discord. Compatibility Mode Some games use non-standard window handling that doesn't play well with modern borderless techniques. I've added a Compatibility Mode that replicates the exact window manipulation behavior from the original Borderless Gaming. How it works: Launch Borderless Gaming with the --compat command line argument The title bar will show "" to indicate you're running in compatibility mode Uses legacy-style window style removal and positioning that some older games expect When to use it: If a game works i…

- Borderless Gaming v1.0.23 - 4 October 2025
Hey friends, This update fixes some issues introduced in our last two releases. My attempt to fix older Unreal Engine games inadvertently broke newer ones. Rather than playing cat and mouse trying to make everything work automatically, I've added these parameters directly to the interface, giving you full control over which fixes and behaviors to apply. To apply any fixes to older Unreal games, you'll need to enable 'Flip Processing Order' in your game profiles. This setting is also applied by default to all Game Maker games ⚠️ Important: Unreal Engine Games If you apply a profile with incorrect settings to an Unreal Engine game and it fails to go borderless properly, you MUST restart the game for any profile changes to take effect. Older Unreal Engine games store their window state in memory, which can cause issues when switching between different profile settings. Simply changing the…
- Borderless Gaming v1.0.22 - 3 October 2025
This patch builds upon the last update by introducing several new features: - A new keyboard shortcut to toggle the taskbar, defaulting to Shift+Tab. - Fixes for window layout shifting caused by removing the taskbar in certain games. - A new advanced option called “nudge” that helps older Unreal games fill the available screen space after they are made borderless. This option is not compatible with all games (e.g., Dishonored), but it works well with LET IT DIE. - All splash screens are now explicitly filtered out to prevent profiles from being double applied. - For games that start minimized while loading assets, Borderless Gaming now detects this and delays applying profiles until the game is actually visible on screen (this fixes the issue in Borderlands). - Toggling a profile off now correctly cancels any in-flight borderless operations. The 1.1 update is expected in the next week o…
- Borderless Gaming v1.0.21 - 3 October 2025
Key Fixes: Resolves issues with older Unreal Engine games that historically haven't worked with Borderless Gaming (see details below) Fixes profiles for certain Unity and Google Play on PC games Corrects state synchronization issues in foreground tracking Unreal Engine Compatibility Many Unreal Engine 3 games from the 2010s were never designed with windowed mode in mind. As a result, each game responds differently to being resized or moved while in windowed mode, and even fewer support dynamic resizing. This update implements a new strategy that successfully enables Borderless Gaming functionality for these problematic titles. However, since these older games behave differently despite sharing the same engine, no single profile configuration will work universally. Example 1: LET IT DIE Recommended profile settings: LET IT DIE properly detects when the display's working area changes and…
- Borderless Gaming v1.0.20 - 29 September 2025
- The “Adjust volume in background” option is removed, and the old “Mute in background” option is reinstated. - A timing issue that caused an app to be muted, cursor unlocked, and the taskbar restored when quickly alt-tabbing is fixed. - The custom titlebar from the main window is removed, and the system-native titlebar is used instead. - Support for Google Play Games on PC is added, and several Unity games are fixed.
- Borderless Gaming v1.0.19 - 22 September 2025

- Borderless Gaming v1.0.17 - Multi-monitor Support - 14 September 2025
The area selector got completely rewritten. It actually works properly with multiple monitors now and doesn't look like something from 2003. You can now define custom window sizes and positions with ease. Demo What Changed Multi-Monitor Support That Actually Works - Area selector now properly detects which monitor you're selecting on - Shows physical pixel coordinates instead of the wrong scaled values - Display information shows which monitor you're on (Display 1, Display 2, etc.) - Rectangle stays within screen bounds when dragging/resizing Visual Improvements - Added a subtle glow effect around the selection rectangle - Dark gradient background instead of fully transparent (easier to see what you're doing) - Info panel shows position and size in real-time - Dashed white border instead of solid red Bug Fixes - Fixed coordinates being wrong on high DPI displays - Fixed selection rectan…
