  • Check Out GCSG at Monochropoly Steam Festival - 27 July 2026

Good Children Say Grace is taking part in Monochropoly, starting today.Monochropoly is a curated Steam event run by Skull Queens Games, dedicated to games built on black and white and limited color palettes. GCSG is in the accent color category, which is exactly where it belongs. If you enjoy the way this game looks, there is a good chance you will find something else in the lineup worth your time. Go click through it.Now the part I have been putting off writing. This summer was difficult. I went through a severe burnout and had to step away from development for a while. I rested, I got my head back, and I am working again. The full game is coming out at the end of August. Exact date and details will be announced soon. The demo is also getting a significant revamp to match the new flow of the game. The structure has changed a lot since Next Fest, and the current build no longer represents…

  • Patch Notes #2: Steam Next Fest Continued - 17 June 2026

Thanks for all the feedback! Here is an additional batch of fixes. The game should be mostly stable now, so I can focus on developing more content without technical worries.Gameplay & ProgressionWeird Place now loads the correct level. It was showing the Coffee level.Fixed all level loading logic. Weird Place no longer loads the wrong place if you've already played it.Stopped the audio cue from auto playing when you exit after loading Weird Place.Fixed Amelia's dialogue choice and text position at the window.Fixed the 2D camera so it stops wandering into the new zone from outside.RoofFixed the roof section that previously broke the game.Removed the incorrect shader area. Things look better now.Lighting & VisualsBrightened the bad Amelia room. You can see her now.Fixed a bug where the wrong eyes showed up on different versions of Amelia. • New Trailer Out Now! - 17 June 2026

The new Good Children Say Grace trailer is out. After months of work, this is the clearest look yet at what the game actually is, and the full demo is playable right now during Steam Next Fest. Also available on X: https://x.com/morozovdenisss/status/2067016984601260131If the trailer pulls you in, the single most helpful thing you can do is wishlist on Steam and share it with someone who'd be into this kind of thing. As a solo dev, every wishlist and every share genuinely moves the needle.Especially for me, since I'm really bad at this whole online thing... but I really appreciate the people who stick around. It's still very much a solo-dev project, getting rejections left and right, but I want to bring this vision to life more than anything.Thank you.

  • Patch Notes #1: Steam Next Fest Demo - 15 June 2026

Thanks for all the feedback! You found a lot, I fixed a lot.Gameplay & ProgressionWeird Place now unlocks properly after your first visitAdded clearer instructions to the egg-cracking minigameFixed a blocker on the rooftop routeFixed a bug where jumping to the ceiling let you slip past the intended area and its shader. Amelia now hides correctly in the apartmentCorrected the wrong navigation direction in the Hospital (Psychiatry) levelFixed return-home logic in the Inside House level. Doors that refused to open, plus a bug where characters' heads detached from their bodies.Fixed broken events in the Nightmare level. Still a work in progressLighting & VisualsRebalanced lighting across all levels. Several rooms were far too brightFixed an over-lit apartment caused by leaking directional lightsRemoved the insanely bright basket of eggsPortal transitions now cut to black instantlyFixed the…

  • Devlog 10. Steam Next Fest Beta Demo is Out! - 14 June 2026

Thank you everyone for waiting! Please note that while early sections of the game appear to be functioning as intended, and definitely represent the game well, the build will be very actively updated throughout Steam Next Fest. The Steam Next Fest demo is live. Ten days of intense work since the June 4th build, and the improvements are substantial. Not finished, not even close, but good enough to post, maybe. Most of what changed came directly from your feedback. There is now a Journal. People told me, often, that they had no idea what was going on with the story. So I built a way to track the story and get deeper insight into what your choices actually did. There are many invisible variables getting tracked, but I've come to realize that too many of them are hidden.Color is now used as a navigation tool, with more pointers to cut down on the moments of standing in a room wondering where t…

  • Devlog 9. The Beta Demo is Out to Content Creators and Community! - 5 June 2026

A gardener plants a row of seeds and waters the empty soil for a year before anything comes up. By the time the first shoots arrive he has moved away, and the new owner discovers a corpse under an apricot tree.So here is where things are with the current build!I just published the June 4th build, which I am calling a beta demo, and started sending it out to content creators. This version contains about half of the content I intend for the full demo. The other half is already in the works. I cannot wait for you to see all of it.A few specifics on changes and improvements.VA. Thank you to Kaori Shimizu for doing incredible work. We just finished a second batch of over 180 lines, and they are incredible.Loading System. The loading system has been reworked and is much faster and smoother than the build people played before. You can now navigate through discovered branches and have a clear t…

  • Quick Update: New Visuals in the Demo - 26 May 2026

A man repaints his front door a slightly different shade every week. This is the whole story, since no one ever noticed his work. After all, he lived in Antarctica. The demo now has the new visuals, in case you are arriving fresh. New content still missing, but you can at least see where I'm going with vibes. Stay tuned for the next devlog which should be pretty big!Wishlist and follow if you want to see where this goes.Denis Morozov(デニス・モロゾフ)

  • Devlog 8. Learnings from the Demo and Major Updates - 11 May 2026

A baker leaves one loaf on the windowsill every night, and it is always gone the same morning. Couple of weeks later, he realizes that he accidentally poisoned all of the rabbits in his town, gets arrested, and spent the rest of his life in prison. The rough early demo did its job. People played it, told me what was broken, and a lot of what was broken is now not. What follows is the longer version of what "a lot of updates" means.Script. Episode 1's script sits around 90% done, after hundreds of rewrites. I would describe the current quality as actually good, which is not a phrase I use lightly.Visual overhaul. The visual style had a major pass. I am using stencils to separate environments, MetaHumans, and even individual body parts of the MetaHumans. Not final, but the screenshots through this post are where it stands.Eyes. Do you like eyes? I do. Every character now has their own eyes,…

  • Early Demo Available Now! - 16 April 2026

A locksmith makes a key that opens any door, then spends the rest of his life hiding in the sewage. Eventually he realizes the only door he ever wanted to open was his own.Good Children Say Grace now has a playable early demo. First-person absurd horror on a blockaded 1980s Eastern European island, told through manga-shaped storytelling. Most choice-driven games hand you dialogue options. This one watches where you walk. Some paths open entire scenes that other paths never find. The whole thing is built around replaying it and seeing how small actions ripple. The demo features Japanese voice acting by Kaori Shimizu (Serial Experiments Lain), a vocal performance by Nami Nakagawa (Demon Slayer, NieR), and English voice by Delena Martens (Lucid Rain Studios).Follow on X: https://x.com/morozovdenisssFeedback form: https://forms.gle/DNDBCCR9YTmKMTE7AWhat you tell me here shapes Episode 1 direc…

  • Devlog 7. Closed Testing Concluded. Public Early Demo on April 15th - 13 April 2026

A town holds a festival every year for a saint nobody can see. They light candles in an empty church, but only very briefly see someone on the corner of their eyes. From April 2nd we ran closed tests, and we are finally ready to step into the wider, scarier public. This is a slice released specifically to gather feedback before Next Fest. The early demo goes live April 15th on Steam, Itch, Booth.PM, Freem!, Game Jolt, IndieDB, and フリーゲーム夢現, in English and Japanese. The fuller demo arrives for Steam Next Fest in June, with Episode 1 once all content is locked sometime end of June. The closed tests surfaced everything you would expect. Bugs. An install size that somehow inflated to 8 gigabytes. Very random issues. A lot of feedback about things the game was missing, mostly around giving players more ways to experience the story. All of it got addressed. The game now runs on potato hardware wi…

  • Devlog 6. Official Trailer, and a Voice from Serial Experiments Lain - 17 March 2026

A man insists his reflection is a few seconds behind him. Nobody believes it until the day he waves and the reflection does not.The official trailer is now live. Watch it. Please. It shows the actual game this time. Branching dialogue, first-person exploration, the 2.5D sections. It moves, and it looks like a game, and I am as surprised as you are.Kaori Shimizu voices Amelia. She voiced Lain Iwakura in Serial Experiments Lain. That is my favorite anime. I have no elegant way to put what it felt like to hear Shimizu-san read the lines. Her other roles include Signum in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Hiyori in Lucky Star, and Yuka in Inuyasha. What's Next?Closed testing starts April 2nd. A public demo follows it, fully localized and voiced. Episode 1 comes after the demo.Wishlist and follow if you want to see where this goes.Denis Morozov(デニス・モロゾフ)

  • Devlog 5. Partnership with Scarlet Moon - 20 February 2026

A choir director in a small town conducts the same hymn every Sunday for forty years. The congregation assumes he loves it. In truth he has hated it since the first week and stayed only to see how long a person can perform devotion to something he despises.I have signed a contract with a cool voice agency!Good Children Say Grace Partners with Scarlet MoonGood Children Say Grace is now working with Jayson Napolitano and Scarlet Moon, a game music label and artist agency.Through Scarlet Moon, I can now announce that Nami Nakagawa (Demon Slayer / NIER) and Norihiko Hibino (Metal Gear / Bayonetta / Yu-Gi-Oh) are joining the audio team of the project.LocalizationFull Japanese and English localization has been integrated into the Unreal Engine pipeline. I can now deploy narratives and mechanics into the game in both languages. The demo ships with finished sound design, Japanese voice over for…

  • Devlog 4. Inio Asano Saw My Work - 14 February 2026

A boy mails a letter to his favorite author every week for ten years and never gets a reply. On the day he stops believing anyone reads them, the author knocks on his door holding all five hundred letters and asks if he can move in. The boy says yes, and they spend the rest of their lives quietly resenting each other.マジかWhen Inio Asano, creator of Goodnight Punpun, reposted the announcement trailer for Good Children Say Grace, his reaction was マジか (majika). "Seriously?" It is now my favorite word.In Christianity, "saying grace" is a prayer of thanks before a meal. In Japan, you say いただきます (itadakimasu) before eating. One is spoken to God, the other to the food and the people who provided it.I spent the last few days replying to basically everyone who shared, reposted, or wrote about the trailer. If you interacted with it, I saw it. I read all of it.Admittedly, I have this weird social a…

  • Devlog 3. Announcement Trailer and Japanese Store Page - 10 February 2026

A cartographer is hired to map a town and discovers the town is one street longer every time he counts it. He never finishes the map. He dies respected, having produced the only document the town trusts, which is blank. The announcement trailer for Good Children Say Grace is live. Watch it. If you do, consider wishlisting, because the algorithm has no feelings about mine.Japanese Store PageThere is now a Japanese store page. The reason is simple: working with manga-rooted storytelling, and reaching the Japanese audience, is the thing I actually want most out of this. The store page translation is step one. Step two depends on whether step one was a mistake.Full Japanese localization is a top priority once the project can stand on its own. What's NextThe game is a collaboration between me (Denis) and the fiction writer Milha Vek, who joined because of the economic situation in Albania. Mil…

  • Devlog 2. A Collaborator, a Demo on the Way, and an Empty Jar - 23 January 2026

I am holding an egg in my hand. It has no purpose, really. It is simply a way for a chicken to make other eggs, as V.M. Varga said.It has been a while since the last devlog. The project is alive and being worked on every day.Demo in MarchA short demo should be playable around March. It keeps the Oyasumi Punpun mood. The screenshots are real gameplay, not mockups. Branching is intact and growing.Writing Update - Collab! The biggest shift is in the writing. I am now working with the writer Milha Vek, whose recently published book forms the basis of part of the story. If you want to support the author directly, the book is Mariya by Milha Vek, on Amazon. The material gets adapted and heavily branched to fit the game. The hard part is no longer writing it. A large amount of dialogue and story already exists. The hard part is integrating all of it and making the branches actually hold.100 Wish…

  • Devlog 1. Introducing the Game - 6 August 2025

A man builds a boat in his basement for thirty years. When it is finished, he realizes the door is too small to get it out.Author IntroductionI'm Denis, making this game alone in my apartment. I've played most interactive fiction games, and now I'm making my own. That is genuinely all you need to know about me.About the GameGood Children Say Grace is a psychological horror game set on a fictional island off Eastern Europe in the 1980s.It plays a little like Stanley Parable if everyone was starving, or Mouthwashing if it was about family dysfunction instead of space capitalism. First-person exploration, 2.5D sections, and cinematics are stitched into one thing that holds together.Inspired by: The Summer Hikaru Died, The Coffin of Andy and Leyley, Oyasumi Punpun, Mindhunter. The SetupYou play as Martin. Poor childhood, a family who hurts him, and a quiet certainty that he is a lemur. Then t…
