- One Rotten Oath v1.0.2 update - Various optimization tweaks and bugfixes - 15 December 2025
Hey guys!Patch v1.0.2 is live. This time around I focused on various optimization tweaks.Changelog (v1.0.2) Optimization improvements:FMVs were re-rendered in WebM that’s more friendly to older devices. Choppy FMV issue shouldn't appear anymore. If the problem still persists on your end, toggle the fullscreen in the settings menu. The FMVs should run even better in the windowed mode.3D scenes are now cleared out of memory after beating the level or leaving to the main menu. This should help everyone low on RAM. Treeline resolution got halved. This should render the scenes a bit faster.Bugfixes:Fixed a few typos in the intro (Thanks Karlec!).Deleted “Pause when game lost focus” condition from the visual novel segments. Pressing ALT+TAB on those scenes shouldn’t break the game anymore.Fixed a weird visual glitch in the first FMV.Fixed the rain showing up on the HUD in the first stages.Tha…

Hey again! Thanks to your gameplay clips and various feedback, I was able to fix a few things.Note about choppy FMV issue on some hardware configurationsBefore we head into the changelog, I’ve heard that some of you experienced choppy FMV sequences. For some reason, this happens while playing the game on Steam. Enabling the windowed mode seems to be fixing the problem. I’m trying my best to fix the playback issue for you all. Hang tight!Changelog (v1.0.1) If the game runs fine on your end and you’ll like to know what’s new, here’s the changelog: Improvements: Optimization fixes. Object culling was manually adjusted to each level. This should significantly boost performance on older hardware.Fences now make noise when players run into them. - One Rotten Oath available now! - 28 November 2025
Hey!After 1,5 years of development, One Rotten Oath is finally released. It’s hard to believe that we’ve come this far. 5 years ago, I wouldn’t believe that I would come back to game dev with such a big project. We’ve done this thing in a 42m2 apartment, two old cameras and a 7 year old PC. I know I’m mostly in the spotlight due to creating basically everything you see in game, but I’d like to thank my fiancee - Olga Lewińska - for composing the soundtrack to the game. One Rotten Oath would lose its charm without her music. My brother - Paweł Bunkowski - also helped out a lot by playing a few mutants. We’ve destroyed a lot of shirts and spilled some fake blood that at the end of the day was barely visible in the postproduction. They don’t like to come forward, but I know that without them, it wouldn’t be possible. They motivated and supported me whenever it got hard. Huge thanks for eve…
- A comprehensive guide to One Rotten Oath's development - 22 November 2025
Small talk with GDevelop teamHey there!I never would've thought that I'd speak with GDevelop team (creators of the game engine that ORO is running on) about One Rotten Oath development cycle. I did a deep dive with Marcos Codas. We've talked about the game design, inspirations, PGA 2025 and a lot more. Check it out here: https://gdevelop.io/blog/fmv-fps-made-in-gdevelop-game-expoSteam DeckAfter our conversation, Marcos played the game on Steam Deck and I'm happy to say that the game works flawlessly on it. According to Marcos, all you need to do is download and play it. That's a huge news for me, since I can't really test the game on Steam Deck.I'd like to thank the GDevelop team for their time and interest in One Rotten Oath. It's such a big highlight of my carrer and I can't everyone enough for supporting me in this journey. On that note, have a good one and we'll see each other in th…
- Demo v1.2.0 released! - hitmarkers and piercing bullets - 11 November 2025
Hey! Since we’re close to the release date, I decided to implement a few things to the demo that are present in the full version. Here’s what’s changed: Added:Hitmarkers. Now you’ll know for sure if the bullet hit someone. This feature was requested by a lot of you on PGA 2025, so I decided to add it in.You can now skip tutorial by holding Space or Y button on the controller.Rifle bullets now go through enemies. This makes the first stages a bit more balanced in terms of difficulty.QoL improvements:Adjusted hitboxes on the Local Football Player. In the previous builds, sometimes the bullets passed right through him without inflicting damage.Bugfixes:The game icon on the desktop now shows up properly. You might ask why I’m updating the demo right before the release. Well, the demo is here to stay (regardless if it cuts the sales or not). I want you to know what kind of game you’re buying…

- We're back from Poznań Game Arena 2025 - 27 October 2025
Hey there! Thanks to the Indie Games Poland Foundation we had a chance to showcase our game at PGA 2025! Huge thanks to everyone who came to our stand. It felt surreal to be back again at such big event after a 5 year hiatus. We've gathered a lot of feedback, praise, but some critique as well. We've met a lot of other cool devs and even took part in a PGG Quest on the spot, where you could gather points for kicking our mutants. It was a total blast for us!Here's how it went:Thanks again for your time and we'll see you later on other events!~ Piotr and Olga
- Demo v1.1.0 Released - The movement system redone! - 13 September 2025
Hey there! Thanks to your feedback, I've decided to redone the entire movement system in the free roam sections. The original one was quite problematic to a lot of you, because of the uncontrollable sliding. Here's the entire changelog:QoL improvements:Redone the movement system in the free roam section. You’ll no longer slide around and the aiming is even more precise. Local Football Player now screams before he attacks. This should give you one more second to react to his attack from behind. Optimization fixes. The game should run better (especially during barricade sections).Bugfixes:Fixed the Masked Mutant audio channels in the barricade sections.Fixed rain SFX disappearing after aiming down sights with a rifle.Have a good one! PB
- Dual narrative and double barrels (Devlog 6) - 10 September 2025
Hey there!Time to say a few things about other gameplay mechanics that you’ll find in One Rotten Oath. Dual narrativeAs you may have noticed while playing the game, dual narrative is a big part of One Rotten Oath. Whatever happens in dev's world, it affects the survivor in-game. I wish I could tell you more about the little bits and pieces that I've hidden there, but that will spoil a lot of the surprises. For now, I’ll leave you with this little (and quite highly compressed) sneak peak:Double-barreled shotgunI can proudly say that you'll be able to use a double-barreled shotgun to fend off tougher mutants in the later parts of the game. Crowd control at the price of slow reload. It will definitely help in the tougher situations!Remember, don't get cornered and have a good one!PB
- The story so far (Devlogs 1-5) - 6 August 2025
Welcome Back - The great debut, ambitious failure and future.Hey there! It's been 5 years, since my last attempt in game development. The debut title "A Trip to Yugoslavia" was a great success. One that led to many great events and made a lot of good memories. I was 17 when it all happened. Then came the "Director's Cut", which kept the entire team on the high horse. That's when we've decided to create "Purgatorium: A Family Torn Apart" - the ambitious project that simply overwhelmed equally ambitious team. This brings us to today. An idea for One Rotten Oath came to me without a warning. One day, I was just driving home, thinking about how fun the game dev was from my perspective and how much we all gave to make these experiences possible. Then came the realization. Would I be able to create an engaging, interactive experience just like half a decade ago, all by myself?I guess time will…
