- I can't stop comparing the dialogue from the original, messy FF7 localization and its vastly improved fan translation - 29 September 2026
"Final Fantasy 7 PC" is not an immediately intuitive combination of numbers and letters. Am I talking about the old trapezoid box version released in 1998? Or the "remaster" re-released in 2013? Or the first in the trilogy of remakes released nearly a decade later? Calling the 1998 version the "original" just makes things more confusing, since it isn't exactly the same as the PlayStation game released the year before... Read more.
- Square Enix wants Final Fantasy 7 to be an 'IP with an ever-evolving future', which is strange to say about a franchise that's already ever-evolving - 7 September 2026
Final Fantasy 7's remake trilogy has, at the very least, given us a trio of pretty solid RPGs—I had a great time with the first, and I'm soon to buckle up and finally give Rebirth a go. But I can't help but wonder, quietly, whether or not Final Fantasy has fallen into the same 'fear of new IP trap' as other games... Read more.
- FF7 Remake director had to tell his team to 'be reasonable' because they got too excited about the FF14 crossover: 'That would be putting the cart before the horse' - 3 August 2026
Final Fantasy 14 isn't any stranger to crossovers—but Evercold will be a first for the MMO, wherein both the raid series and the alliance raid series (8-man and 24-man raids, respectively) will be crossovers. With the latter being a whackadoodle Evangelion crossover , and the former being a far more reasonable FF7 one ... Read more.

- Both Final Fantasy 7 remakes are dirt cheap right now in a franchise sale—but I think you should play FF12 and enjoy the series' best combat system at a discount, too - 15 June 2026
I rather enjoyed the first Final Fantasy 7 remake —I sank a comfy 35 hours into it, plodded along its story, and had a grand old time. I never got around to Rebirth , though. Partially because I just didn't have the time, but also because I didn't want another fully-priced AAA game taking a chunk out of my wallet... Read more.

- Final Fantasy 7 players have finally 'solved' one of the RPG's greatest myths - 24 October 2024
If you've been playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and it's your first time experiencing the world of Cloud, Shinra, Sephiroth, and co., I should advise that this article will spoil a significant part of the RPG's story. We're talking mysteries here - in fact, one of the biggest mysteries in PC gaming history. Final Fantasy 14 had a resurgence this year thanks to Dawntrail. FF16 finally made the leap to Steam. But long before any of that, back when the Square Enix series was still in its (relative) infancy, there was one myth that hung over the entirety of Final Fantasy 7. Now, thanks to some visionary exploits and speedrunner wisdom, it's finally been solved - well, kind of. Read the rest of the story... - Final Fantasy 7 retranslation mod promises English-speaking players an experience 'as close as possible to that of Japanese-speaking players' - 21 October 2024
I never finished Final Fantasy 7. I know there are plenty of people who can forgive the stilted, over-formal oddity of its English translation, but I'm not one of them. Fortunately, there are other people out there who think FF7 deserves better, including the Shinra Archaeology Team. This squad of modders has put together the Shinra Archaeology Cut of Final Fantasy 7 , a retranslation mod that just hit 1.0... Read more.

- Former Sephiroth voice actor - oh, and NSYNC member - says he's never been able to beat the Kingdom Hearts secret boss fight - 4 August 2024
The Sephiroth boss fight in the first Kingdom Hearts is still one of the series' toughest, and it turns out his voice actor hasn't managed to beat it. We've all been there: you're rocking your way up through the ranks in Olympus Coliseum, not a care in a world. You're knocking down titans, you're facing off against Final Fantasy friends, you've got this! Then, those damn strings start playing, and the one and only Sephiroth turns up. And of course, you get your ass thoroughly whooped, because he is tough as nails. He's still tough to this day, arguably even harder than the second game's Sephiroth fight if only because your toolset is wider in the sequel. So I can't exactly blame Lance Bass, the character's voice actor in the first Kingdom Hearts game (and a member of some boy band called NSYNC or whatever) for not having managed to beat him. As spotted by GamesRadar , Bass recently held…
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has a reference that's such a deepcut not even its devs get it - 10 March 2024
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is full of easter eggs and references, but there's one in particular that its devs included despite not knowing its origin. Some very light spoilers for the game ahead! When you, Cloud, and co eventually find yourselves in Corel Prison, there's a well you can go down where you can fight various enemies in a tournament-style battle, similar to the Corneo Colosseum Battle in the first game. You don't technically have to visit it, though there is one questline where you can get an item you need to progress. If you do so, or just visit it later, you can fight a mutated dog enemy called Test 0, which does appear in the original game. However, by original, I mean very original - it could only spawn in the first print of Japanese copies of Final Fantasy 7. It wouldn't even attack you, and it had a very low spawn rate anyway, making it overall a bit of a mystery. Read mo…
