  • Four classic Final Fantasy games get the DRM-free treatment from GOG, and they're 60% off if you're fast - 29 January 2026

You can learn a lot about someone from their favorite Final Fantasy games, and there are certainly those that get the bulk of the attention from the wider audience. But then there are those that don't always get the immediate shout-outs, but deserve your attention because, if they do click for you, they'll hit harder than anything else. I'm here to give you that little push today, because four Final Fantasy games that fall into that category have just arrived on GOG, meaning no DRM and a guarantee for the future, and you can grab them at less than half price if you're quick about it. • The best Final Fantasy game of all time is now cheaper than ever - 1 May 2024

Final Fantasy 7 has Midgar, one of the greatest locations in RPG history, or maybe videogame history in its entirety. FFX is a wonderful story, Final Fantasy 9 has that terrific opening, and I wish they'd bring back the FF5 job system. But despite all of these various highs and attractions - and the multiplayer allure of FF14 - there is one Final Fantasy game that stands above all others. Often overlooked and occasionally maligned, it's now cheaper than ever. Read the rest of the story... • PlayStation Plus is about to suffer a big Final Fantasy exodus, but that pales in comparison to the real tragedy - 17 April 2024

Hello there, a whole bunch of games are set to leave Playstation Plus next month. There are 25 of them, to be exact, and some pretty big names are on that list. A smorgasbord of Final Fantasy titles, for example. Though, that's not what you should be most concerned about. Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 is leaving too, and to be honest, I don't think the service will ever recover from that. First, the rest of them (thanks, PushSquare ). If you're itching to play Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8, Final Fantasy 9, Final Fantasy 10/10-2, Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age, and Final Fantasy 15: Royal Edition, all of which I can confirm are Final Fantasy games, you'll have to do so prior to May 21. Look, I know Final Fantasy titles have some amazing stories and characters in them, and you're now looking Monster Jam Steel Titans 2's Metacritic and saying to yourself 'this looks really mid, even for…

  • Final Fantasy 8's director shares what he would change in a remake as the game hits its 25th anniversary - 11 February 2024

Final Fantasy 8 is now 25 years old, and in a recent interview, the game's director spoke about quite a big change he would make if the game received a remake. While Final Fantasy 7 Remake has proven to be pretty popular, overall, the idea of other games in the series getting the same treatment feels a bit unlikely - and in the case of some games, if one were to happen, it would probably take decades . There are no plans for a Final Fantasy 8 remake, but speaking to IGN , director of the game and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase spoke about the junction system, and the changes he would make to it in a hypothetical remake for the game's 25th anniversary. "I think you may remember we had the junction system in Final Fantasy 8," Kitase said. "And the thing about that system was the enemies levelled up in line with what the player’s level was. And obviously you had to then…

  • Final Fantasy 7 Remake director would give an emphatic 'No!' if someone asked him for an FF8 remake, and FF8's original director isn't keen either - 9 February 2024

Call me an empath, but something tells me that remaking Final Fantasy 7 as a trilogy of slick, high-budget modern games is taking its toll on poor Naoki Hamaguchi, the remake's director. In a recent chat with IGN , Hamaguchi and Final Fantasy 8 director Yoshinori Kitase were presented with the idea of a similar remake for FF8. Hamaguchi took to the idea like a cat to a swimming pool... Read more.

  • Don’t expect a Final Fantasy 8 remake after FF7 Remake, director suggests - it’s simply too much work - 7 February 2024

  • An incredible must-listen new Final Fantasy orchestra album hits stores next week - 27 July 2023

Video game music has been garnering more recognition in recent years, but despite that surge of interest there are still few series’ that garner as much attention or praise in the musical space as Final Fantasy - and now, fans have another example to demonstrate exactly why in the form of a new recording of orchestral arrangements from various titles in the series. Next week, Final Symphony 2 will land on all major streaming platforms, plus be available for purchase via Bandcamp. For those willing to lay down some cash rather than just stream, pre-orders begin today. Final Symphony is one of a few different FF-themed concert series’ - but it’s arguably the most ‘grown up’ of the bunch. Where the ‘ Distant Worlds ’ concert series and most of Square Enix’s in-house orchestra releases feature arranged performances of individual pieces from the Final Fantasy series, Final Symphony presents…

  • It's official, the best Final Fantasy is none other than... - 19 December 2022

It was Final Fantasy's 35th anniversary over the weekend, and a Japanese poll on what the best games are has basically officially given us the top 10. Despite the name (haha, get it, because Final Fantasy?) there are a whole lot of Final Fantasy games. There's pretty much a new one every year, even if it is a spinoff, so everyone is going to have their favourites. But let's just stick to the mainline games for now, as that's what a recent Japanese poll of the series covered, and as shared in one of the 35th anniversary streams (via Resetera ), we now have our top 10 Final Fantasy games, according to fans. Before I give you the list, please do remember that you're allowed to have your favourites, and that nothing could matter less than this. With that out the way, the results are: Read more

  • The best game soundtracks you can listen to for free right now - 24 September 2019

Another month, another big video game publisher puts a great big dollop of video game music online for zero pennies. This time, it’s Bandai Namco, who have just uploaded every single Tekken soundtrack onto Spotify because, well, apparently everyone loves Tekken. I’ve never partaken in a Tekken, but with track names like “Massive Stunner” and “Lonesome City Jazz Party 1st”, I’m already 100% convinced the music must be great. However, given my rather lacking expertise in all things Tekken-related, I thought that instead of doing a big Tekken musical breakdown like I did for Capcom and all the Final Fantasy games , I’d take this opportunity to celebrate some of the other great gaming soundtracks you can currently listen to for free right now, because boy howdy are there loads of ’em. So bang on those headphones and turn up the volume, f…

  • I have complicated feelings about Final Fantasy VIII Remastered - 3 September 2019

Whenever someone asks me what my favourite Final Fantasy game is, the answer is always Final Fantasy VIII . It’s getting on a bit (20 years, in fact) but its tale of time-travelling witches, lovestruck teens, cannonball dogs and bonkers floating military schools is still, for me, one of the best things to come out of this never-ending series. It is, however, one of the more trying Final Fantasy games to get running properly on PC. The 2013 PC release is, let’s face it, a bit of a fudge. The music isn’t right, the controls are fiddly; it’s aged horribly. Good thing, then, that today marks the release of Final Fantasy VIII Remastered , a spruced-up, PC-friendly version that finally does it justi– wait… What’s wrong with those SeeD students? And those backgrounds? And oh sweet Guardian Forces WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO SQUALL’S FACE? (more&hellip…

  • Final Fantasy VIII Remastered arrives in September - 20 August 2019

For all the decades of ha-ha-hilarious jokes about a final Final Fantasy as the numbers kept climbing higher, we hadn’t predicted that Square Enix would keep it going from the other end too with remakes and remasters aplenty. Up next is Final Fantasy VIII Remastered , a fancied-up version of the game which in 1999 was definitely the last in the RPG series for real ho ho! Squeenix today announced that it’s coming real soon, on September 3rd. This is the game our Katharine declared the best Final Fantasy (and Brendan reluctantly agreed) so maybe I’ll have a look next month. (more…)

  • The best games of E3 2019 - 14 June 2019

We’ve been drowned by E3 2019 this past week, but maybe you only waded into the river of game reveals and new trailers up to your ankles. If you didn’t get your hair wet, there might be some gems among the flotsam and jetsam that you missed. That’s what this post is for: we’ve rounded up our picks for the best games of E3, based on our own impressions of either seeing the games behind closed doors at the show, or of watching the videos from the comfort of our homes. They just keep coming don’t they? A lot of games were announced at E3 2019, things that we didn’t know about, as well as stuff that’s previously announced, or expansions to already released games. Now, to the casual outsider, what we’re doing might seem absolutely nuts, but we thought we’d put together an alphabetical list of all the PC games that have been confirmed to appear at this year’s E3 show. With well over a hundred of them now in the books, the next year or so looks packed. (more…)

  • The moment I'm most excited for in the Final Fantasy 8 remaster - 12 June 2019

Square Enix are but a fading spectre of their former glory. Square Enix can tie a crate of Final Fantasy trading cards to themselves and get in the sea. Square Enix are all horrible bastards who don t understand what makes a good RPG anymore. Never again will I have to say any of these clearly untrue and potentially libellous phrases, because Square Enix – who I ve always said were the best – have now confirmed that they re remastering Final Fantasy 8 . Well heck. (more…)

  • Final Fantasy 8 is finally being remastered for new platforms - 11 June 2019

Final Fantasy 8 is finally being remastered for modern platforms, Square Enix has confirmed. It will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, Switch and Steam later this year, the publisher said during its E3 2019 press conference. Though the PC version was re-released back in 2013, Final Fantasy 8 has been a glaring omission in Square Enix's catalogue of ports, with the likes of 7, 9, 10 and 12 coming to every modern platform in recent years, including PS4, mobiles and, most recently, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch . • The Cheerer and the Jeerer Square Enix's show as it happened - 11 June 2019

The Cheerer and the Jeerer is our version of the traditional E3 press liveblog. Matt and Brendan are both at the conferences – but one of them can only be upbeat and positive, while the other can only be snarky and negative. Let’s go! Matt: This is it. The final blog down. Square Enix are about to tell us about what they’re up to, and we’ve both reported to our liveblogging stations for the very last time. Both Cheerer and Jeerer have one more opportunity to don their respective masks of love and loathing, but who will take up each mantle? Actually, forget I asked. Jetlag has snuck up on us both and filled our hearts with jeer, but I’m the one writing this intro so I get to bagsy it. Plus it’s my turn anyway. Nuh-nuh. (more…)

  • Dissidia Final Fantasy NT punching onto PC as free-to-play - 28 February 2019

Following the epic boyband road trip of Final Fantasy XV , Square Enix now plan to let us create our own pop trios in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT . Today they announced the 3v3 crossover brawler, made with Dead Or Alive developers Team Ninja and released on PlayStation 4 in 2018, is coming to PC as a free-to-play edition. I think my dream pop trio might be Noctis, Kefka, and Sephiroth? Or Yuna, Lightning, and Noctis could be an interesting musical dynamic. Squeenix insist the trios do fight each other, but I assume it’s mostly about building and admiring your dream lineup. (more…)

About this game

It is a time of war. Galbadia, a Global Superpower, has declared war on Dollet, a country whose training academy is home to two personalities: the hot-headed Seifer and the 'lone wolf', Squall Leonhart. Both are equally at conflict with each other as their country is with Galbadia; to others, Squall appears lacking in team spirit, while Seifer lacks the discipline of his rival. However, a chance encounter with the free-spirited Rinoa Heartilly turns Squall's universe upside down; having thrived on discipline, Squall find the carefree Rinoa fascinating. He also begins to dream that he is Laguna Loire, a Galbadian army soldier… Meanwhile, a sorceress manipulates the most powerful men in Galbadia. Will Squall and his party succeed in defeating this maniacal sorceress and saving their world? What part does the mysterious Laguna play? Steam marketplace comparison data

Price History Overview

USD uses SteamPulse's own locally recorded daily store snapshots, so this overview reflects the exact regional price history that SteamPulse has captured for this currency.

Coverage And Tracking Window

  • Snapshots: 1
  • Coverage: Oct 6, 2026 to Oct 6, 2026
  • Lowest observed: $4.79
  • Highest observed: $4.79

FINAL FANTASY VIII's USD price history spans from Oct 6, 2026 to Oct 6, 2026, with 1 recorded snapshot across 1 calendar day. Each row records the available final price, listed base price, and discount metadata for that observation. Within this coverage the lowest recorded price is $4.79, the highest is $4.79, and the first visible tracked price is $4.79. These comparisons apply only to the snapshots SteamPulse holds; missing observations can contain changes that are not represented here.

For USD, SteamPulse uses locally captured regional storefront snapshots and does not reconstruct older prices with exchange-rate conversion. The chart and table show the values recorded for this exact currency from the stated coverage start. Additional snapshots extend that record, but they do not fill unobserved days or prove what the storefront displayed between observations.

Discount Windows And Sale Timing

  • Discount windows: 1
  • Discounted days: 1 day
  • Deepest markdown: -60%
  • Latest sale window: Oct 6, 2026 to Oct 6, 2026

SteamPulse has grouped rows carrying discount metadata into 1 recorded discount window, covering 1 calendar day and 1 discounted snapshot. The deepest recorded markdown is -60%, with a lowest recorded final price of $4.79 during rows named Steam sale. The latest recorded window starts Oct 6, 2026 and ends Oct 6, 2026, spanning 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking. Window boundaries follow the available snapshots, so gaps in coverage can make an actual sale shorter or longer than the recorded span.

Recorded sale names include Steam sale. The table reports the observed markdown, final price, snapshot dates, and any sale name supplied with the row. It can show whether similar discounts recur in the retained record, but it does not infer publisher intent, demand, or the reason a price changed.

Observed Price Changes And Stable Runs

  • Observed price drops: 0
  • Observed price rises: 0
  • Longest stable run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking
  • Current run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking

Outside rows carrying discount metadata, the tracked price has not recorded a separate price rise or drop yet. That means the observed undiscounted level has stayed stable across the snapshots SteamPulse currently holds. This is a statement about the recorded coverage only; it does not prove that an older or missing price change never happened.

The longest unchanged price stretch in the current record lasts 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking at $4.79, from Oct 6, 2026 through Oct 6, 2026. The latest run records $4.79 for 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking with a listed discount from $11.99. Run lengths describe consecutive stored observations only and do not establish that a price is permanent.

Latest Snapshot And Sales Context

  • Current price: $4.79
  • Current list price: $11.99
  • Distinct observed prices: 1
  • Source mode: SteamPulse local tracking

The latest tracked snapshot records FINAL FANTASY VIII at $4.79 in USD, with a listed base price of $11.99 and a -60% markdown. Across the available history SteamPulse has recorded 1 distinct final price in this currency. This supports comparisons with the lowest, highest, and most common values present in the retained record, subject to the stated coverage limits.

The live sales view and Steam sales record provide calendar context for these dates. A date overlap can be compared with a named Steam event, but it does not prove why a publisher changed a price. As new daily rows arrive, this overview recalculates its observed prices, discount windows, and run lengths automatically.
