Latest Steam announcements

  • Steam Cloud now enabled! - 2 June 2026

Meta-progression (which Upgrades you've unlocked) and settings (resolution, volume) now carry over between devices! But heed these warnings:Cloud Storage works fine with the Steam Deck, but the Deck only pushes data to the cloud when you quit the game, not when you put the device to sleep. If you use two different Steam accounts on the same device, they will use the same data: same meta-progression and same settings.Mid-run progress (as opposed to meta-progression) is (still) not saved. There are solutions to (1) and (2). But those are a bit more complicated to implement, so I'll defer them until a few people ask for them on Discord/Bluesky/Forums.There are also solutions to (3) but that's a BIG lift and each run is like 5 minutes long anyways, so that's probably fine!

  • v1.1.1: The Full-screen Patch - 27 May 2026

I never play these games full-screen but apparently YOU DO! So, here's some full-screen support; see the checkbox in Settings. Note: if you previously applied full-screen with Alt+Enter, you'll see some screen flickering (once) on your next boot, as we sync your old settings to the locally stored settings. Alt+Enter will now be ignored, since the checkbox is the preferred way to toggle it.

  • SOLARFLARE now available! - 27 May 2026

SOLARFLARE is now available to the public! Good luck, you'll need it. Let me know which builds are completely worthless or laughably overpowered; try Discord or Community Discussion or Bluesky or carrier pigeon.I don't want to lead anyone on, so to be clear: I consider this game to be Complete with a capital C. But... do say something if you really want to see more. Every gamedev has a million ideas that don't make it into the final game, and I am no exception. But life is busy, and it's hard to justify the time unless the people ask for it.Thanks again to all playtesters, this wouldn't have happened without you.

  • v1.0 is here! - 25 May 2026

All playtesters' feedback has been incredibly useful! But since every todo list is infinite, a time must someday come that we say "no to all of that", if we ever want to release. And we do want to release! So let's release: I declare this to be the build we'll make public on Wednesday.(Do still let me know about any bugs, though; that's that the third number in "1.0.0" is for!)Oh and by the way:New Upgrades are now highlighted until purchased for the first time. The "Play" icon pulses when paused, to reassure you that the game has not frozen.Despite my best efforts to sway the vote, I was forced to swap two enemies' death SFX by democracy. I don't make the rules!

  • v0.57.0 Patch - 24 May 2026

Heat now has a delightful blaring siren that portends your demise; you're welcome! You can no longer play at 6x speed. We at SOLARFLARE believe 4x speed should be enough for anyone, and anyways 6x speed was making our audio guy very sad.You can now see your character in the Victory screen. You still can't choose your character though, that'd be crazy.

  • v0.56.0 Patch - 21 May 2026

UISpeed slider snaps to values 0-6AudioHella rad attack and death SFX after zoomingBugfixClicking an Upgrade you own purchases another rank of itOnly unlock one Upgrade if you abandon a mission immediatelyBalanceNerf Overrun yet again

  • v0.55.0 Patch - 21 May 2026

UIEasier to use speed sliderAudioHella rad whoosh while zoomingProgressionUpgrades come in preordained order, to avoid earning an Upgrade that is useless until laterBalanceBuffs: Collateral Damage, Leech (and nerf Needler), Photovoltaic, Plasma Blade, Reversal, Pass the BuckNerfs: Off Limits, OverrunReworked Solar Collector to focus on Regen

  • v0.54.0 Patch - 20 May 2026

BugsNo more infinite Fortitude from hitting yourself, sorry.Tell people they've unlocked an Upgrade when they do, instead of later. UIHover over Upgrades or Effects in the combat log for tooltips.Fewer buttons for menus that don't matter anymore.BalanceEarly, unlock Upgrades slower, to avoid overwhelm.Later, unlock Upgrades faster, to avoid boredom. Thanks to Ian and Fervir for all the feedback!

  • v0.53.0 Patch - 19 May 2026

BalanceNumber tuning for Autoreinforcement (buff), Nanoalloy Plating (buff), Power Loader (nerf)Rework Hit & Run (run away from enemies) into Chase (run towards and circle enemies).Hopefully this breathes some life into Step-based builds.BugsMomentum now applies per stack instead of per application (effectively a buff)UIHover over an enemy (including Heat!) to see their stats in the lower-right panel, and their location on the map.

  • v0.52.0 Patch - 17 May 2026

UIYou can now change resolution, in case you're unfortunate enough to own a 4K display.Hover over Upgrades, Status Effects, and stats in the left or right sidebars to see what they do.Thanks to Xzeel and Fervir for the feedback!

  • v0.51.0 Patch - 16 May 2026

BugfixesGrowl and Pass the Buck had broken because "nearest enemy" was broken when I was fiddling with distance measurements. Now they work!BalanceFaster metaprogression; you should now usually unlock at least one Upgrade per run.Abomination and Conduit were too spiky and fast respectively. They are now less of both. They should still be scary; they are late-game enemies, after all.UIYou can now inspect your enemies after you die. EXPERIMENT>>DIE>>REPEATThanks to Fervir for all the feedback!
