- Yes, we do it! The Gothic Remake is going to happen - 19 February 2020
Next step is to set up a Barcelona based studio and head into main production Barcelona, Spain / Vienna, Austria, February 19th, 2020: Just a little over two months after releasing a playable teaser for the Gothic Remake and asking the players for their feedback, the answer is clear: The fans are up for a new "old" Gothic game and the vast majority (read: 94,8%) was in favour to develop a remake of the iconic German RPG Gothic, originally released in 2001. https://store.steampowered.com/app/950670/Gothic_Playable_Teaser/ Over 180.000 players have played the playable teaser so far. On the evening (CET) of February 16 2020, THQ Nordic took the survey offline, and hereby publicly releases the raw data of the survey, as well as highlight graphs. - Surprise, Surprise: Here's a Playable Teaser for Possible Remake of Gothic - 13 December 2019
Is it a Gothic Remake? Not yet, but it can become one: THQ Nordic releases playable prototype on Steam, asks for the player's opinion Barcelona, Spain / Vienna, Austria, December 13th, 2019: „Welcome to the colony!“ – how is it possible that 18 years have passed since we first heard that phrase at the beginning of Gothic, the game that set a milestone in the history of German fantasy RPGs, such as Risen and Elex? Since then, we all have grown older, acquired some wrinkles, and are laughing at how we look in pictures from the early 2000s – or how games looked back then. https://store.steampowered.com/app/950670/Gothic_Playable_Teaser/ But, what if we could turn back time, take everything that was great almost 20 years ago, and put it in a beautiful modern look (let’s say powered by Unreal Engine 4) along with improving some things that were not that great, like the combat system, for exa…
- THQ Nordic acquires... Gothic creator Piranha Bytes - 22 May 2019
THQ Nordic has acquired Gothic creator Piranha Bytes, and with it the IP rights to Gothic, Risen and Elex. The two companies have worked together before - THQ Nordic having been the publisher of Elex (2017), which was a bit ropey but charming nonetheless (a little like Piranha Bytes' other games). On the prospect of Elex 2, the acquisition press release said: "Semi-official comment: Have a guess." As for a new Gothic - presumably Gothic 5? "Nothing to say at this stage." Read more

- Why Gothic dev Piranha dumped JoWooD - 5 May 2011
Gothic 3 scored only 8/10 because developer JoWooD "forced" the game's release when it was "not ready", developer Piranha Bytes has revealed to Eurogamer. That was the final nail in the coffin: Piranha Bytes walked away from its long-term publisher partner and the renowned RPG series it had created. "The problem was - to cut a long story short - there were a couple of differences in opinion between the publisher and us," said Piranha Bytes co-founder Michael Hoge. "And the whole thing collapsed when the publisher forced us to release Gothic 3 while it was not ready." "To be fair, if we had finished it in the time that we promised, it would have been fine. But as it was, the development took longer on the project, and instead of trying to find a solution with us - how to get this right - they just wanted to release it. It was because of their stock market orientation, I think. So we deci…
