Hello! 哈喽!Bonjour ! こんにちは!Hallo! 안녕하세요!It’s been a while! We’ve spent the last few months focused on the full release, and we have a lot to share in this demo update. A preview video is on YouTube.First, the biggest news: Attack of the Astrals is now available in French, German, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean! This was a huge undertaking across the Hewer’s Workshop, Goblinz, and LocQuest teams, and we’re thrilled to welcome new players around the world. The translations and localized assets are 100% human-made. We'd love feedback on your experience playing in the new languages! There's tons of new gameplay to cover! - The Level Up-date (0.11.0) - 18 June 2026
Thank you for playing Attack of the Astrals! If you didn't see it, check out our previous announcement revealing 3 more Champions joining the full release this year:This update is focused on replay value and the new player experience. New and returning players should find a lot to love here: the level curve is faster, tutorials are completely reworked, and the narrative of the world is better established for new players.Unfortunately, these changes are breaking. Returning players will open the game to a blank profile and need to play through the tutorial again. We didn't make this decision lightly, but it was required to re-balance the game's difficulty levels to accommodate a dedicated tutorial level. Luckily, new content awaits you!Faster progressionMore upgrades and Scrolls each run, and more combo potential. You can now reach Level V! Five levels are spread across 650 EXP, as opposed…

The multi-strike makes him a great Protect counter. The HunterThis Rogue ricochets his arrows to deal more damage when moving in curved paths:If you played during the playtest, Hunter may seem familiar! He’s an evolution of our previous Ranger design. Now in Rogue form, his winding paths offer a new mini-puzzl…

- The Champion Update (0.9.5) - 13 May 2026
The Champion Update is a comprehensive refinement of the game to address the biggest items of feedback from the playtest:Replay value needs investmentThe Astral ambush every battle is not funThe game is punishing, especially for new playersPlaytime metrics back this up. We love that a core group of players have clicked with the game, but too many players are turned off in the first few battles or stop playing after a single run. We’ve made some sweeping changes to address feedback while preserving the core gameplay and positional combat that sets Attack of the Astrals apart. We’re super happy with the result!Astrals no longer ambush(Image: An example of turn start with Golem's new passive.)The game has been re-balanced around Astrals not attacking at the start of battle. In addition to feeling more familiar to genre fans, this has other benefits:By moving first, players have more control…

The Challenger Update is huge! We've expanded the range of strategies each run, introducing difficulty levels and scaling Scroll rewards. Take it easy with a lower difficulty, or fight flawlessly for a high EXP score and powerful Scrolls, all while listening to new regional music composed by Jared Farney.Watch the video overview:Earn Experience in BattleYou now start at Level I each run and earn experience each battle. Leveling up adds more powerful Scrolls to the reward pool, making it critical to play your best from the very first fight. Compare your final EXP value to other players by sharing in the Steam community or our Discord!A new report at the end of battle breaks down experience gained, which is rewarded for each surviving Champion, overkill damage, and efficient play: the fewer skills you use in battle, the better. We want every decision in battle to feel important. - Playtest Update v0.09.03 - 31 March 2026
The next update to the Attack of the Astrals playtest is available now! We are getting close to feature-complete for the demo, so the next update will focus on expanding content. We look forward to reading your feedback on these latest changes!Watch the video overview here: Release NotesGameplayScroll reward options: Instead of receiving a random Scroll, you now select between two options. Giving the player more control over Scroll rewards will allow us to design more situational Scrolls.Discard an existing Scroll: If all Scroll slots are full, you can discard an existing Scroll to make room for it. Preventing players from receiving rewards was just mean, and this gives you an opportunity to pivot away from Scrolls you haven’t found useful.Reset your turn at any time before the next turn: Turn reset is now available until Minions spawn for the next turn, so you can use it after your Cha…
- Playtest Update v0.09.02 - 21/03/2026 - 21 March 2026
Release NotesYou can check these notes in video form here! GameplayBuild your team: You can now select your entire team at the beginning of a run, or select an entirely random team. Once your team is decided, you select its leader, deciding which Champion begins the run with a Summon.Confuse adjustment: Confuse now deals 1 damage for each unit damaged by the next skill, instead of each unit targeted. In practice, the power level of Confuse has not changed much and you play around it the same way, but Summons that target “ALL” are no longer instant death when confused.Unlock visibility: Unlocked content is now shown at the end of a run.Bug fixesWinning a battle with a Scroll no longer incorrectly prevents you from being rewarded a Scroll.Resetting the turn now properly resets Summons and removes status conditions. You can no longer reset the turn if no Champion has acted.Visuals and Sound…
- Playtest 2 is Live! - 28 February 2026
The second playtest for Attack of the Astrals begins now! New and returning players can download and hop into turn-based tactical combat improved by the feedback we received last time.We have lots of updates to share, and more to come!If you want to see all of this in action, watch Hari narrate some playtest gameplay here:Update NotesGameplayAstrals: Several enemies have visual and mechanical changes. For example, Ogre (above) is now a reliable multi-striker.Reduced run length: Each run lasts 9 battles, instead of 12. We're still figuring out the ideal run length, and we're testing this pacing to lead us into a final, boss-like region in the complete game.Difficulty: We've reduced difficulty by lowering minion counts in certain battles and adjusting maps. It will still be a challenge to win, but players should be able to more reliably beat the playtest.Fatigue: Champions that die in bat…
