- Game Update - 15 March 2026
Hi everyone,I haven't made an announcement recently so thought I'd take the time to update where the game is at. I am currently working on getting the demo into the best playable and most enjoyable state to put The Quelling into Steam Summer Fest this year just to boost the visibility of the game and try get a wider audience. As well as still working on the demo I have been working on the first 3 maps in the background but they are still early works in progress I aim to have nice big explorable maps.If anyone has any questions or feedback feel free to comment below and I can see and reply to them. Thanks,Tom
- First Game Update - 7 January 2026
Hi everyone,So, I am slowly working towards having that enjoyable fulfilling gameplay that I'm looking for. This is the first patch towards making the game demo/full game the best it can be. There are still a few small problems and I am aware of some thing but any feedback is crucial and welcome. The next update might take some time and I'm working hard towwards the end goal. Thanks for the patience.FixesZombie designsGun animations (There is still 1 gun that needs aniamting but it won't affect gameplay)Fixed LODS so game should run smoother nowChanged player speed (player is now faster)Changed jump height (player doesn't jump as high)Fixed collission box on mystery box so player can't jump on top of it casuing AI to pauseIn the coming weeks I'm gonna be working on fixing the remaining small detais of the demo then start working towards making the full game. I plan for the main game to…
- What's Happening - 30 December 2025
Hope everyone had a great festive period, I myself took a small break to enjoy the last few days. As I haven't updated the game in a few weeks I thought I'd make an announcement for anyone interested.I am still working hard on making this game the most enjoyable experience I can and I am still working on fixing the animations so they not only look smoother but more natural as well (I say that as if the player doesn't lift up and LMG with one hand to reload it, we don't talk about that). I am still working through these animations as I had about 140 to do in total and the progress from what it looked like before is substantial and crutial to the development of this game.I have also changed the zombie models to a more realistic and haunting design. This is not as easy as it sounds as I have had to change all of the code for the AI and switch it over which didn't just work straight away (I…
- New Update - 12 December 2025
I've finally worked on creating a smoother more fun gun gameplay.Fixes/Adds• Fixed the no ammo still on screen after reloading• Fixed not being able to shoot or aim gun after interacting• Added shooting animations for the guns (short and sweet)• Added screenshake when shooting• Added names for guns and extra UI for weapon nameI am currently working on another map for the demo, it'll be a small version or a map from the base game and I'm releasing it to showcase my skills in level design as my current demo map doesn't quite showcase that. Thanks everyone, anything to mention or add just create a discussion in the community hub so I can see and reply.Tom
- Patching - 28 November 2025
Since the release of the demo I have been working on not only adding to the game but fixing the issues I was not aware of, during the course since the demo has been public a few errors have slipped through. Thank you for having patience with me as I work on making this game the best it can be and trying to make it the most enjoyable experience. I am currently working hard to get mechanics in the game that will make the game a lot better before release of the full game. Patches I have fixed:Zombie spawners not working correctly - Zombies will now only spawn at the spawners closest to the player in an area.Player sweeping into the train when hit at the front.Getting up on top of the mystery box that stopped the zombies movement. There are still a few issues I am aware of such as the staircase stopping zombies and the train being heard from the whole map. I want to keep posting updates for…
- Fixing Gameplay Issues - 22 November 2025
Unfortunately due to not having a crashing issue myself I haven't been able to debug the issue, however saying that I have attempted to remove what I believe is the cause so without being able to test it hopefully this build fixes this issue for those affected. What I have removed does not affect gameplay at all so nothing has changed on that part.I have also now added the knifing feature, as usual the keybind is "V" but I have made it a 2 hit on round 1 so not the common one knife at the start. I have also fixed the shotgun in the start room that when reloaded would not actually reload and be stuck on 0 bullets.I have currently done the hard parts to expanding the demo map I just need to finish up the level design, I am currently stuck on creativity of the look as not much you can add to subway stations and I don't want it to look empty so give me a bit more time with that.If there is…
- What I'm currently working on - 18 November 2025
I hope everyone is doing well,I am currently in progress of improving the demo, I have added some bullet traces for each upgrade level which will soon be added, I am also trying to fix the bug where upgraded guns do not have the right camo skin which is a pain in my backside so please bare with me with that.On good news I will be expanding the demo area to feel more of a map, which will be linking to the base game map that is already being worked on. I will be using the theme of the first map to link to the demo which will look at pushing the upgrade machine and perk machines away from spawn. If anyone has any queries or problems please let me know and I'll sort it out as soon as possible.Thank you for trying The Undead Files,Tom
- Small Demo Patches - 17 November 2025
So after the release of the demo there were a few issues that slipped past. These included improper hitboxes so players could get in a spot where zombies couldn't get to, now fixed and some gun ADS mechanics. Anymore bugs that you find please let me know and I'll fix that right away.In the mean time I am going to be working on making the game more enjoyable, there is still a lot of work to be done such as audio, improving mechanics, adding mechanics and applying feedback. Thank you all for giving my game a chance as this is just the very beginning, you can catch video updates on my Youtube where I normally post shorts of what I've worked on or my Patreon where I'll be posting more behind the scenes content. Thanks again,Tomhttps://www.patreon.com/c/thomasrossiter/posts
- Demo Release - 16 November 2025
I have now decided to release the demo of The Undead Files with the store page going live. It is currently in a bare bones state but this is intentional as I want to shape the game around what you, the community, want to play. I have ideas I want to implement but theres are unrealistic so if the playerbase wants a realistic old school zombies game I can keep it grounded. These include lightning guns and wind cannons etc. I am currently aware of a few issues which I'm working on now. Thanks for giving my game a try and hopefully I can make this game awesome with feedback.Tom
