- Music BTS - 20 August 2026
Happy post release everyone~! Thank you all for your feedback, it all helps to make the game better and reach more people who would love the world of RUNT!This week, we wanted to talk about one of the most important elements of RUNT - the music! We sat down with Stephen Spies & Taylor Shechet, our two composers for the project to ask some questions about their process working on the OST, which is available now on Bandcamp!https://taylorshechet.bandcamp.com/album/runt-original-game-soundtrack What are some projects you’ve previously worked on?TS: Gloomwood by New Blood is definitely the project I’m most known for. It is a survival horror immersive simulator game set in an alternative Victorian era, currently in Early Access. I’ve been making the music and SFX for Gloomwood since the demo. I recently did sound effects for the demo of All Living Things by MOXO - a gorgeous claymation puzzl…

- RUNT Is Out Now - 10 August 2026
Hello and happy release day everyone~! It's been about a year and 5 months since we started working on RUNT and had no idea that we would ever complete it or that we would get the amount of attention that we have! Seeing all the fanart and work and comments and Runtsonas just from our demo alone has been incredible and we cannot thank you all enough for supporting us.For me (Yves), this has been a rollercoaster of emotions and long days and countless hours of writing and re-writing. Here on release day, I don’t think I would change a thing (except add wayyyyy more art : D). I am beyond honored to have worked with my co-dev Soren, as well as the infinitely patient team at DreadXP. We’ve been unbelievably lucky with this development to have seen the response we have~!!!Soren here! This game has been a herculean effort on both our parts, and I'm very happy and excited for it all to be fini…

- DESIGN SPOTLIGHT - STRAYER KITCHEN - 28 May 2026
STEAM POST - KITCHEN BACKGROUNDS BTS! Hello all, Soren and Yves here today to give you a little behind the scenes peek at one of the background paintings for the game. Like a lot of the design, art and writing in the game, the backgrounds are a collaborative mix between me and Yves. They're also a mix of photography and digital painting, some of them leaning more towards heavily filtered and photos with hand-painted elements, while others are 100% digital painting. Today we're taking a look at one that was entirely painted--the lovely, beautiful, not at all grim-and-depressing and disgusting Strayer kitchen! The kitchen is the heart of the home, which is why I wanted to show off, on every little level that I could, that this one's kind of awful. It's seen better days. It hasn't been properly taken care of in years. The initial kitchen layout with furniture was created in a simple 3D mode…
- DESIGN SPOTLIGHT - FISHER - 14 May 2026
Soren here today to talk about the design and character of Fisher Strayer! Fisher's the second youngest Strayer brother at twenty-five, and like Tanner, his design came forth far before his full personality had been developed. So when I designed him, it was focusing on nothing but the very core of his character. And he's got an interesting sort of dichotomy, and I guess one that's always been fascinating to me: someone with a really scientific, analytic mind who also happens to be exceptionally religious. He also has a push-and-pull going on between being the most devout Strayer, but also having a job outside of the family. The only Strayer brother that actually does. He's rarely home, but he's also trying to keep his father's faith and legacy going. Can he really be devoted to both?So it was these two things, this push and pull, that I wanted to bring to life in Fisher. Like Tanner, I d…
- Design Spotlight [Carver] - 30 April 2026
Hello everyone~! This is Yves and this week, we will be going over the creation of Carver. Off the bat, he is my favorite brother. He was the first of the Strayers to be conceptualized. When I first started mocking up concepts for UI, I kept imagining the fox guy from Darkwood and used him as a reference for things like color and tone. We’ve seen a few people mention that Darkwood style approach to characters and y’all were right! The character design from that game helped a ton with influencing RUNT’s style. (Early concept mock-up for the game) To give some initial stats on Carver, he’s about 28 years old, born almost exactly 9 months after Tanner. Given this closeness in age, he and Tanner are exceptionally close and are probably the only pair of brothers that genuinely like each other. Additionally - also given the closeness in birth - Carver is actually a bit stunted in his growth c…
- Design Spotlight [Tanner] - 16 April 2026
Hello all, Soren here to talk to you about the design & character of Tanner Strayer this week. I won't lie, Tanner's my favorite brother. Carver's the most infuriatingly charming, Fisher's design has elements from my favorite video game, and Hunter's…. Hunter… but Tanner's my pick every time. Tanner's design was heavily inspired by the photography work of Charles Fréger and his Wilder Mann series documenting folkloric costume around the world. Tanner, like Hunter, took to the off-grid lifestyle the most out of the brothers, and the materials he's used to adorn himself with and the handicraft involved reflect that: fur, wood, antlers, leather.(The first sketch of Tanner's design, straight from my sketchbook. Revisiting this, I'm surprised to see the note at the bottom that reads "KITTED TF OUT - HE'S AFRAID".) His mask is a shell of carved wood, blackened by fire (he carved it himself an…
- Design Spotlight [HUNTER] - 2 April 2026
Hello everyone! This is Yves~! Thank you to everyone who stopped by the DreadXP booth at PAX East! It means the world to hear how people were reacting to the demo~! For this week, we wanted to go over the design of one of our dear Strayer brothers. We will switch off talking about all of them along with other townies, so if you are interested in how we conceptualize all the characters, stay tuned! To kick things off, we wanted to cover Hunter, the eldest brother! (Early sketch)(Final design) Canonically, Hunter is about 6’4, making him the tallest of the brothers. He is also the oldest, being about 32. As the leader of his brothers following their fathers passing and as the unofficial leader of Skipclaw - though he’s more akin to a military general - he needed to stand out in a scene.Hunter's concept was essentially ‘the scariest man alive.’ He represents hyper-masculinity, the very ide…
- Welcome to Skipclaw! [Lore + Design] - 19 March 2026
Hello everyone, it's Yves~! Thank you for all your feedback regarding the demo as well your bug reports~! It’s helped a lot in shaping the full game to be even better than we planned! We also wanna say thank you to everyone who's streamed it or written a review or just had nice things to say - no matter the reaction (which has been super positive!! Wow!! Thank you!!), knowing that people are invested in the world of RUNT has been invigorating!! For this week and upcoming weeks, we wanted to provide some lore and behind the scenes work on how RUNT came to be~! There will be no spoilers for the full game, but there may be some for the Demo, so give it a shot if you haven’t and come right back here for more~! This week, we wanted to talk a little bit about how Skipclaw came to be, both in the world and how it was designed. To give an overview, I’m passing this over to Soren! Also RUNT will…
