- Update 0.2.0 — Shaders, Workshop mods, and living caves - 25 July 2026
This is the biggest update in Afterdepth's history. Two big things arrive together: the entire game is now rendered with GPU shaders — the largest visual change since launch — and Afterdepth now has full mod support, with Steam Workshop. The shader migration started back in December. It was the longest thing I've ever built for this game, and it's only now finished. But it didn't stop there. The caves came alive too. A NEW GAME FOR YOUR EYES Rendering was moved entirely to the GPU, with shaders written specifically for this game. The difference is immediate: Water, lava and acid styled by shader. Liquids stopped being blocks of color: they gained depth, motion and edges of their own.Lava and acid actually light the room. The light map now runs on the GPU with emissive glow — a pool of lava on the floor lights up the entire cave.Soft shadows. Light occlusion went from a single ray to fou…

- Afterdepth 0.1.9 — Research, base building, exploration - 16 May 2026
Version 0.1.9 greatly expands what you can do both inside and outside the base. The map is now wider, opening up more room for horizontal exploration, mining, and alternate routes through the cave. At the same time, this update starts pushing the game further into research-based progression, construction, and infrastructure, with a new Research Tree, portable power, new machines, oxygen production, acid refining, and structures that help you bring resources beyond the bunker walls. This update also brings important new survival and exploration features: Mach1, a companion robot that follows you and can carry items; the scanner, now tied more closely to research progression; and acid, a new environmental hazard that can also become a useful resource when processed correctly. Bunker 07 received a major overhaul as well, with new atmosphere, more detailed interior areas, oxygen points, toxi…

- Update 0.1.7 — New Grappling Hook Physics + Full Mouse Support - 10 April 2026
🔧 Full Description (Steam)The grappling hook has been reworked from the ground up: the rope now uses real physics and collides with the terrain. It wraps around corners, rests on platforms, and reacts to what you pull. I had to carefully balance how much the rope “pushes into” blocks — before it was unstable and could snap or behave unpredictably. Now it feels reliable. While climbing the rope, you can jump at any time (the hook instantly retracts), and climb onto platforms using Q without extra input tricks. In the terminal, after progressing the story, you unlock a mini map to help find ores and things hidden in the dark. The signal range is limited — this is a first version, and the plan is to expand it in future updates. The inventory now has full mouse support: click, drag and drop, clearer transfers between panels, and a big UX improvement when organizing items. It’s worth trying th…
- Update — 0.1.6 - 6 April 2026
This is a smaller weekend patch aimed at fixing odd behavior, adding a bit of visual polish, and shipping one important exploration upgrade: the elevator can now be upgraded, which helps with moving between areas as you discover the next bunkers through the campaign. The focus is on early-campaign players — people still learning crafting, oxygen, and vertical movement. If you’re just starting out, this build should make that part of the game clearer and more reliable. What’s new & changed (0.1.6) Elevator upgrades — speed and maximum descent distance. Signal effect (VFX) when using the elevator remote controls. Visual polish for the Bunker 09 terminal. Quit to desktop button in the pause menu during gameplay. Fix: elevator stuck at the top in Bunker 09. New dialogue after crafting the oxygen tank, reminding you to equip/use it. Fix: Bunker 08 crafting station sometimes showed an invisib…

- Hotfix 0.1.4 — Crash, Translation & Hook - 31 March 2026
Even though this is a small update, it fixes a critical issue (crash when picking up the lantern) and is another step toward a larger update that’s on the way. Thanks to everyone who’s playing — your feedback has been really valuable, and I’m focused on the weakest parts of the game right now while I keep working on the expansion. Next month should bring big news; in the meantime, this hotfix makes the experience more stable for everyone already exploring Afterdepth.Important note: unfortunately, this update will invalidate your previous save. I want to avoid that as much as possible going forward; I know it’s frustrating, and I appreciate everyone’s understanding. If you have questions, I’m here to help. FixesCrash when picking up the lantern — some players reported this; I found where it happened and fixed it.LocalizationAdjustments for missing German translation warnings.GameplayAim…
