Begin your game. Start a run. You can buy and sell equipment to make your character stronger. You can upgrade equipment that you like to increase it's benefits. Then take your party into a dungeon where you can fight monsters and collect loot. Defeating monsters will award you with experience and materials to upgrade equipment. If your party wipes, you get to start over, but stronger than the last time and ready to get further and gain more loot!
