  • New game in development: Nostalgiallo. - 22 August 2026

It's been a while, but I'm finally back with a Steam project after a couple on months smacking my head against a wall while making jam games. This time it will be a smaller project, since the demonic possession gamedev energy that fueled Kuentame seems to be on vacation. As cool as the 3D pre-rendered graphics look, there's an issue that's making it hard for me to try it again: my job involves computers, so having my hobby projects be entirely made on a computer becomes really tiring for both the brain and eyes. With my earlier games that problem was avoided using stock images since editing them took less time that making 3D models, but that style had the problem or making me dependent on an Internet connection. For a while I was stuck between these 2 options, until...Something I've been wanting to do in a long while as a "nostalgia horror" based on old Spanish slapstick comics, or "tebe…

  • Minor patch - 9 May 2026

Fixed a bug that caused the player to be warped to a wrong position when going backwards between sections in one of the level 2 areas.Added minor corrections to the Japanese localization.

  • Kuentame has been released - 8 May 2026

It's been a long-ish journey (6 months), but here we are at the finish line. Kuentame is now available. This game is a pretty big deal for me, since it's a major artstyle change. Rather than my usual collage graphics made from stock images and photos, Kuentame uses pre-rendered 3D images. The main driving force behind this change was wanting to be able to work on projects entirely offline, without constantly needing an Internet connection to look for stock images. However, I made sure to keep the old style's surrealism in all of the game's assets.Nothing left to say, enjoy the game!(ApeHardware is not responsible from any anomalous psychological effects derived from playing Kuentame)

  • Devlog 5 - Level 6 / 6 complete & release date - 6 April 2026

At long last, the final level has been completed. Most of the development was fairly fast as this part of the game is a mashup of all previous mechanics. The final exam, the test of what you have learned, the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny. The final boss, on the other hand, was quite challenge. All I can say without going into spoiler territory is that it's completely different from all the bosses that came before, and it pushed the game's systems to the limit. There's also a secret boss that can be found with some exploration and effort. All that remains is testing, so a release date of 08/05/2026 seems like a reasonable time margin to ensure there are no major fuck-ups. So far only one tester has fully played it and feedback was quite positive despite running on a few bugs (which have already been fixed).I've also been trying to get in contact with translators to localize the ga…

  • Devlog 4 - GAMEPLAY SPOILERS & MINOR STORY SPOILERS!!! - Level 5 / 6 completed - 8 March 2026

The spoiler warning for this devlog also involves the narrative a bit, as it's impossible to discuss what makes this level a big deal without giving away a minor plot detail.Last chance to stop reading...................At the end of level 4, the protagonist has all of their abilities disabled.Level 5 is a metroidvania in which you recover them. This is why this section took longer than the previous ones. It's basically 3 small levels connected together, which requires more assets and a change in level design. While the game's system handled the change pretty well, it was quite a challenge to plan out the map so everything came together nicely. Still, the final result is something I'm really happy with. The map itself is actually rather simple to prevent the player from getting lost easily. There are also a couple if times in which you can take an alternate route one you've gotten an spe…

  • Devlog 3 - (GAMEPLAY SPOILERS!!!) - Level 4/6 completed - 13 February 2026

As I said before, the devlogs will now have a spoiler warning for the gameplay, as levels 4 & 5 are relly different from what was shown in the demo.Level 4 was completed quickly since it didn't require much 3D modeling. The reason for this is because most of the feel takes place in almost complete darkness. If previous levels where creepy but cool, this one is just plain creepy. To make the "this area is cursed" feeling even stronger, I switched the artstyle for a mix: the backgrounds and enemies where done by applying my usual collage artstyle to the already existing pre-rendered sprites. The results where fairly interesting and this weird hybrid style is something I would like to explore further in the future, but the remaining levels will return to 100% pre-rendered assets for the sake of consistency. This level's weirdness also extends to the gameplay. While the earlier levels followe…

  • Devlog 2 – Level 3 / 6 complete & trailer released - 1 February 2026

Once again, the title sums it all up. The third level has been completed. This one is similar to the previous once in the sense that it introduces a few new mechanics and throws different combinations of them at the player. It also brings in a few new enemies. With half the game done, there’s enough content for a proper trailer, which has been done and posted to the Steam page. Out of all the game trailers I have done, this one is 100% my favorite. It’s not just a few snippets of the game with menacing text in-between, it actually has a few pre-rendered cutscenes just for the sake of it.The next devlogs will probably have a few gameplay spoilers, as the plans for the second half’s game design get weirder than the first half. There will be a warning on their titles, just in case.

  • Devlog 1 - Level 2/6 completed - 17 January 2026

As the title says, Kuentame's second level is complete. This level has a similar structure to the demo, introducing some mechanics and enemies and having the player push through several combinations of these mechanics. All of the levels are already planned out, down to appearance and mechanics. Almost all of the mechanics are meant to appear only in their level and during the level 6, which is meant to be a final mashup of everything. However, there is one mechanic is this level that will return on all the following levels: keys & locks. This one is used for some puzzle-like sections and branching paths in which you can get the required keys in any order you want. The planned outline for the full game also includes the plot. The demo was meant to act as an glimpse into the madness and leave the player full of questions, while the rest of the game will answer them. Some of them. And not in…
