- Aug 15th - Major upgrade - 15 August 2026
This is a BIG bug fix and play-ability update. Try it, you'll see what changed.
- Flight improvements. New secrets. - 8 August 2026
Overhauled 3D flight control. Straight-line thrust is now straight: no more mystery pull to one side when you hit reverse. Locked on target fix. Fire while target-locked and your shot will chase down and kill the locked enemy. Face self-destructs again. Controller fixes. Bumpers now fire in every mode where they used to do nothing, and slamming the fire button at game over will no longer blow you past entering your initials. Your high score is safe from your own trigger finger. Surprises. Not every portal leads where you expect.
- Full Controller Support w/ Mouse Overhaul - 6 August 2026
🎮 Now Fully Playable on Controller - Enter friend codes with your controller — D-pad character entry, just like high-score initials. This was the last thing in the game that needed a keyboard, and now it doesn't. - RETR0 is now marked Full Controller Support on Steam. 🖱️ Mouse Overhaul - Mouse-look in space finally feels right — tighter, more connected aim. The old floaty drift that made looking feel like sliding sideways is gone. Hand-tuned. - Mouse fire in top-down runs — left click fires, right click bombs (these did nothing there before). - Cleaned up leftover experimental mouse-thrust behavior — thrust belongs to your keyboard hand: one hand on keys, one on the mouse, the way PC games play.
- Controller Update - Full Gamepad Support - 6 August 2026
The big one: RETR0 now has real controller support. Plug in an Xbox-style pad and everything works — menus, every game mode, every action. 🎮 Full Controller Support - Standard Xbox-style layout across the whole game: A fires everywhere, X throws bombs, RT/LT thrust and reverse, bumpers strafe, Start pauses. No more stick-click thrust. - Every mode has its own natural controls: - Space flight — stick steers, triggers thrust, with proper spacecraft inertia - 2D arcade sections — classic rotate-and-thrust, Asteroids style: stick turns, RT thrusts, bumpers also fire - Top-down runs — direct 4-way movement on the stick - Orbit trench runs — aim, dodge on the bumpers, boost/brake on the triggers - Remap anything: the controls screen now shows keyboard and controller bindings side by side — press any pad button to rebind, and it sticks between sessions. - Utility shortcuts on the D-pad: targe…
- Multiplayer Update: Friend Codes & The Super Boss - 4 August 2026
Fly with your friendsYou can now join a friend's game directly. Pick JOIN FRIEND from the main menu, or hit ESC mid-flight and jump straight into their sector without quitting your run. Get your own code from ESC > Invite Friend, and share it however you like — read it out, paste it into chat, or copy it with a keypress. Type a friend's code by hand from the menu or in the middle of a run. Codes last 24 hours and follow you: fly somewhere else after sharing one and it still drops your friend where you actually are. The Super BossThe super boss now assembles itself in front of you as a set-piece, fires its eye beams out of its face, and stays in the fight across a level change. Its objectives are all reachable, its hull is solid, and killing it is a payoff instead of a disappearance. It can turn up from level 3 onward. New in the field Asteroid belts, with more rock and a chance of a pow…
- Steamdeck fix - 8 April 2026
Bug Fixes:• Settings menu no longer starts the game behind the options screen. Opening Video or Audio settings from the main menu now correctly shows only the starfield backdrop instead of gameplay running underneath.• Controller pause now works on Steam Deck. Pressing Start opens the full pause menu with resume, restart, and quit options. Back/Select is also mapped as a fallback in case Steam Input intercepts the Start button.

- I'm sorry I'm so old-school. Fixed controllers - 13 February 2026
I'm so old-school that I built this game ONLY to support keyboard/mouse play, with a minor nod to controller mapping. Obviously you are not ME and you want to use your game controllers!! So I added support in this build.
- Bugfix patch - 6 February 2026
Enhanced 2D warp speed logic with smarter enemy behavior coordination and an altitude-aware formula for determining spawn distance. Fixed an issue with starship glow effects by excluding the vector starship correctly and normalizing how starship names are checked.
