  If you played Dark Ride: Sweet Dreams, first of all: thank you.Sweet Dreams was one of our experiments with the idea of bringing a classic theme park dark ride into VR. It helped us test the atmosphere, the ride itself, exploration, interactions, and all the little details we love hiding around the park.But it was always just one small piece of something much bigger.And now we’re finally building Dark Ride — the actual park.This is where everything we’ve been experimenting with starts coming together: a strange, cozy VR theme park you can wander through at your own pace, with attractions to discover, things to interact with, hidden details, clues, stories, and plenty of mysteries tucked away in places you might not think to look.No rushing.   This! This! Will be the final update to this Early access game. Probably. Almost certainly. Why? Because we’re moving on! This EA was a test case for the bigger game. “Dark Ride” -We wanted feedback on some things. And we got some. We would have liked more. But it’s ok. From here we will be working on the full game Dark Ride and we will freeze the experiments that led up to it. But before we go on from here.   When we started Dark Ride, we had two paths: just rides, or build a whole theme park. Rides are great. But I don't know what it'd be like to drive for hours or fly across a country to ride Pirates of the Caribbean and go home.Okay, I would. But still — strolling, eating, window shopping, eating, soaking in the activity, eating — that's part of the experience too. So does it translate to VR? Here's what doesn't:No food.No smells.No community, no group atmosphere.Walking is teleporting or gliding like a ghost.No touch.You can look at things for sale, but you can't buy them or keep them.So is there a point to the space between the rides in VR? Who knows. But it sure feels like it. Riding a ride and then either quitting or riding again makes you wish for a break in between.   Controller Interaction Improvements We’ve overhauled how controllers interact with the cart. Inputs should now feel more responsive and reliable during interaction with the cart. Teleportation Bug Fixes We’ve addressed several issues related to teleportation — including cases where players were getting stuck, landing in the wrong location, or experiencing unexpected behavior during the ride.

• The Real Deal (Mostly) - 10 March 2026

  For a long time now we have been working towards this day. To actually put you nice people into a weird little car and drive you down a weird little path we made for it. A dark ride! Because we were so unsure of everything, this is not the only ride we have made. This is more like one of three, and several non-ride based experiences. And three lands with a dozen stores each. And oh yeah, a couple more experiences I just remembered. Oh yeah and a garden. And some secret tunnels. And a couple warehouses. Back to this ride though. It was the first. Just a little jaunt around a birthday themed story that takes you on a journey that probably won’t make sense to you. I personally hope it will not make sense to you.   Soon we will be releasing a new game in Early Access. It’s a subset of a chunk of a piece that fits into the master plan. But it’s a very very critical piece. It’s a legitimate VR dark ride. What is a “dark ride?” I hear you say. Good question Chappy. Can I call you Chappy? It sounds good to me and you just don’t have much say in the matter so. Here we go Chappy. Chappy. A dark ride is a classic Disney concept where the original concept was to let people “ride the movies” - a tagline later stolen by a competitor. People would continually go to California and drive by the Disney studios and they wanted to see Mickey and Snow White. Did they know that these were cartoons? I think so. But it was the 50’s, so who knows what they thought was inside of the magic picture box. But at a minimum they thought they would see a cool statue or get to go on a tour or shake Walt’s hand.
