- Devlog #5: Demo update, version 1.4 - 26 August 2026
Hello everyone,Thank you again for continuing playing the demo and sharing your ideas! Based on your feedback and the roadmap, update 1.4 fundamentally changes the depth of the simulation. This update focuses heavily into the global economy, overhauling parts of combat, and heavily optimizing the engine so the late-game runs better than before.New Feature: Tactical Combat & Warfare OverhaulDedicated Tactical Battle View: The battle viewer has been removed from the Inspector and transformed into a massive, centered floating window. Generic blocks have been replaced with vector-drawn troop icons (Shields, Cavalry, Archers, Trebuchets) that deploy in proper battlefield formations with new charge and regroup animations.(not final version)Cinematic Historical Replays: Major battles are now permanently recorded in a nation's Chronicles. Players can click the "Watch Replay" link to open the Ta…
- Devlog #4: Demo update, version 1.3 - 10 August 2026
Hello everyone, Thank you so much for downloading and playing the demo! Based on your feedback and the roadmap, Update 1.3 fundamentally changes how you can interact with the world, introducing full player autonomy, RTS controls, and an advanced treaty system. New Feature: Player Controls During SandboxSandbox Tab: Added a new dedicated Sandbox tab to the Map Editor sidebar.Global AI Overrides: Players can now selectively disable AI Autonomy. You can turn off AI Diplomacy, AI Movement, and AI War Declarations globally, effectively freezing world politics so you can act as the sole puppet master.RTS Army Controls: Added an RTS Drag-Select mode. You can now click and drag a box across the map to select multiple armies (even from different nations) and issue coordinated march or attack orders via right-click. Selected armies now display a visual highlight ring.Global War Ledger: Added a ne…
- Devlog #3: How does a nation function + demo launch date! - 4 August 2026
Hello everyone!Fair warning, a lot of text in this post. Before I get to the huge news at the bottom of this post, it’s time to talk about the beating heart of the game: The AI and the Nations. In previous devlogs, we looked at generating the world and using the god tools to shape it. But a map is nothing without history, and history is driven by the AI. Here is how nations think, expand, and inevitably collapse in Another Map Simulator.Living, Breathing Realms Nations in the game are living entities. Every province tracks three distinct demographics: Peasants (who generate food and raw materials), Burghers (who generate wealth and trade), and Nobles (who provide elite military power). A nation's government type (Feudal Kingdom, Merchant Republic, Theocracy, etc.) directly alters how they behave. Republics will aggressively seek out coastal trade hubs, while Feudal Kings will prioritize…
- Devlog #2: Shaking Up the World – Map Generation & Painting Tools - 22 June 2026
Hello there! In my last devlog, I took a deep dive into the custom Designer Hubs. Today, I want to look at the literal foundation of Another Map Simulator: how procedural worlds are born, and how you can completely rewrite their geography.I am trying to build a simulation engine that honors actual geography and geology. When you hit generate, the game doesn't just randomly place green and brown pixels. My pipeline starts entirely with water, applies a "Crunching tectonic plates..." pass, dynamically raises the landmasses, and runs mathematical checks to distribute natural biomes based on Elevation and Moisture.Sculpting Your Starting WorldWhen you click "Start Game", you are immediately greeted by my Map Generation Menu. Here, you can choose from various geographical presets depending on the macro-history you want to simulate:Continents / Pangea for massive, sweeping land wars.Archipelago…
- Official Gameplay Trailer & Designing Civilization! - 12 June 2026
Hello everyone!Welcome to my very first official developer blog for Another Map Simulator. I’ve been working hard in Godot to bring this project to life, and today I'm finally pulling back the curtain on the systems that drive the simulation. Our goal is to give you more than just a map to watch. We want to give you a sandbox where you design the "soul" of your nations before seeing how they fare across history. The Five Pillars of CustomizationIn Another Map Simulator, the "Designer Hub" is where your journey begins. I have five nested designer systems that allow you to customize every aspect of your world:Nation Designer: Set the stage, define your initial boundaries, and establish your nation's presence on the world map.Trait Designer (The Ruler): This designer is focused exclusively on the individual leading the nation. Will your ruler be a benevolent diplomat, a paranoid warmonger, o…
