- Mac Performance Update and DNS Fallback - 22 June 2026
A new build has been pushed for Windows and Mac users. For Mac users, this should significantly drop the CPU usage across all sections of the game. For Mac and Windows users, this update adds a DNS fallback for users who may be on networks where the game's domain name (idlehacking.com) may trigger filtering due to the word "Hacking". If the game detects a connection failure due to a DNS resolution failure, it will attempt a fallback to ih.gigaforge.com instead.
- New Player Enhancements and Continued UI Updates - 5 June 2026
New Player Tutorial/Goals UpdateToday we have launched an overhaul to the tutorial system with the goal of helping new players navigate the game's various systems. Instead of the tutorials mostly being a screen takeover that point the player to various menus and aspects of the game all at once, they now take the form of a series of short goals, each one tackling a single aspect and providing a more guided experience. This culminates in the introduction to the item enhancement system, which is where the bulk of the strategy and planning takes place in the game. The new goals system will provide the player with the resources and direction to interact with item enhancement much earlier, no longer being gated behind hitting certain levels. Players can tackle the goals as slowly or as quickly as they want.UI UpdatesWe've added more controls to the game related to Marketplace items, allowing q…
- DNS Fix for Certain DNS Resolvers (Such as 1.1.1.3 from Cloudflare) - 16 May 2026
We recently helped a user who had issues connecting to the server even though we've had 100% uptime in recent weeks. After going back and forth, we narrowed this problem to the use of a filtered DNS resolver (in this case, 1.1.1.3, Cloudflare's "family friendly" DNS). Apparently the word "hacking" in our domain name was triggering this filter, which was likely the case for another user who claimed their ISP had a parental lock interfering with accessing our game. This update embeds a fallback IP address to hopefully allow users to access the game without having to tinker with DNS or ISP keyword blocks.
- Homelab Update - 1 May 2026
Homelab Update is Live!Today we've launched the largest upgrade system to the game to date, featuring 8 categories and 32 unique upgrade types. The nature of the Homelab system is it involves a steady flow of upgrade power, and doesn't allow a player to simply spend currency for instant results. It requires time for upgrades to unlock and improve, and there is no way to pay to force them to complete faster.New upgrades are revealed as you level up your Homelab by installing new components and upgrading the aspects of each section. These upgrades include unique new effects, mostly tailored around defensive mechanics. You will eventually find upgrades that can reduce enemy critical hit chance/damage, the ability to stun enemies for a round, and even the ability to preserve part of your win streak after you lose. This system will continue to get expanded over time, as it provides a strong b…
- 1st "Monthiversary" Event and Changelog Highlights - 18 April 2026
One Month of Hacking and Constant UpdatesWe're celebrating the 1-month anniversary of Idle Hacking's launch, starting at 16:00 UTC on April 18, 2026, and lasting until 16:00 UTC on April 20, 2026. During this time, all players will receive a 2x Item Rarity bonus and 50% reduced item enhancing costs. Supporter Recognition buffs will also be increased from 10 minutes to 15 minutes per key purchased during the Monthiversary.Over the last month, the game has continued to receive constant updates, with only a few days being left out of the update cadence when a larger feature was being worked on that required slightly more time. We won't post the complete list of changes here (our Discord and in-game changelog has every small item), but here's a few of the larger updates that have happened over the first month.Syndicate Armories have been added to allow player syndicates to donate gear that…
- Linux/Proton Compatibility Update - 7 April 2026
Today an update was pushed out to the Windows client, targeting Linux users who are running the game using Steam's Proton compatibility layer. There was an issue with Electron - the wrapper used to turn a browser based game into an application - which caused drop down menus to be rendered under the application window. This behavior has been fixed, and now the game should be fully functional under Proton.Ideally, I would like Linux users to be able to run the game using the Linux native application, but some distributions with various mixtures of Desktop Environment/Window Managers have issues with the Electron based application. I am continuing to work on improving native Linux support wherever possible, but today's update at least provides a fix to the Proton compatibility fallback that all Linux users have available.
- Launch Week Report - 25 March 2026
We're now 1 week into the launch of Idle Hacking, and it has been a much stronger launch than I had anticipated. This game has been a solo passion project with many false starts for years before finally reaching the state the game is in today. At our peak, we've had over 450 unique users online between Steam and the website, and as of this moment there are 975 accounts that have been online recently enough to maintain their offline activity. We've had more than one update per day since launch, but it's now settling into a brief update once per day cadence as UI/UX is taking priority to continue to make the game look better, and more intuitive for the players. It hasn't been all positives. We encountered our second downtime issue today, this time it was resolved within a few minutes, putting our launch week downtime at about an hour and 12 minutes total, mostly stemming from the March 22nd…
- Hotfix Update - March 19, 2026 - 20 March 2026
The Windows, Mac, and Linux clients now present a 'Close Game' button in the bottom right when you activate Windowed Fullscreen mode. Additionally hitting 'Escape' will bring up a menu with a close option. I didn't mean to hold you hostage, browser games just don't normally need a "Close Game" button! This also adds Ctrl +, Ctrl -, and Ctrl 0 (or CMD on Mac) hotkeys to allow zooming the entire interface in/out or resetting it with Ctrl 0.
