  • Sample this! A huge new OFFBEAT update is here - 7 October 2026

Wotcher! The latest OFFBEAT update is here and all about making more from what you’ve already got.Chop up old tapes, throw your own sounds into the mix, dig through past creations and turn them into something different and new. With a brand new sampler, new musical objects (including a coffee grinder that definitely shouldn’t be used for anything but coffee) 11 new jobs, guest sample tapes and plenty more to play with, there are now even more ways to make noise. As usual, to celebrate the launch of a new update, we’ve made another wonderful music video for you. Check it out below: So, what's new?Three new musical objects: a sampler for chopping up and recycling your tapes, the strange and slightly haunted Autochord, and a coffee grinder for bitcrush-style distortion.11 new jobs: soundtrack the news, chop up a dumbass CEO's voice memo, record an EP and more. The Archive: browse all your o…

  • Demo Update! - 8 September 2026

Wotcher! We've decided that the old OFFBEAT demo didn't quite do the game justice, so we've decided to update it. This update comes with nicer graphics, access to the upgrade system, lots and lots of quality-of-life features, greater stability, and the save files are now compatible with the main game, meaning if you decide to get the full version, you'll be able to pick up right where you left off. The one small downside is that if you were midway through the old version of the demo, you might find your save file no longer works. However, don't worry! If this is the case, you'll get a call when you hit New Game from our pal Electric Lacey, who will talk you through using a cheat code to skip back to where you were. Plus, all your old exported audio will be right where you left it.

  • The Studio Essentials Update is OUT NOW! - 2 September 2026

Strings at the ready, the Studio Essentials Update, OFFBEAT’s first major Early Access update, is OUT NOW! To celebrate, we’ve released a new music video for ‘Pepperoni Pizzicato’, composed entirely in OFFBEAT. Please stand, if you’re able, for the national anthem and watch it below: Now, onto the update: It's a doozy, we've added strings, reverb, EQ, effect buses, 11 peculiar new jobs and somewhere to hide all the stuff cluttering up your desk. Most importantly, you can now express your deepest sorrows using the World’s Tiniest Violin. 🎻 make a sad song, add some reverb and If it all gets too much, that’s okay, just take everything and hide it in a box under your desk! Just like real life!Full feature list: Three new musical objects!Meet the latest additions to your increasingly unconventional studio:The World’s Tiniest Violin - Add strings to your songs and upgrade the violin to unlo…

  • OFFBEAT | Early Access Roadmap - 5 August 2026

Hello musical maestro! It is precisely TWO WEEKS since OFFBEAT launched into Steam Early Access and wheeeeeew what a couple of weeks it's been! Hearing all the beautiful works of auditory art created by the new community here has been a joy to behold. Thanks for investing your time and creativity into the game - and please do keep sharing your work with us.We wanted to take a moment to outline our plans for the weeks and months ahead, as we have SO much in the works, and wanted to share what's coming. The Road AheadA little caveat at the top: this is game dev, so who knows what the hell the months ahead have in store, but this is the roadmap we're confident putting out into the wild, and striving our best to deliver on. We are confident in the roadmap and broad dates below, but we just wanted to couple with that little note - we're a small team, and things happen sometimes. Ok! Boring b…

  • Playing the riff from Smoke on the Water on a cat piano may be possible in composer sim Offbeat, if you've got more musical talent than me - 22 July 2026

Duh, duh, duh. Duh, duh, de-duh. Duh, duh, duh. Duh, duh. That's how the riff to Deep Purple's tune about a fire burning down a Swiss casino goes. As with any riff, it's just a sequence of inputs you make on your instrument of choice. Usually, this would be a guitar. I've been trying to use the cat piano and singing gnome of jobbing composer sim Offbeat, which is out in early access today , July 22nd. Sadly, I don't think I've cracked it, but I have been having plenty of fun making funky jingles and wedding tunes. Read more

  • TWENTY K! 🙈 - 22 June 2026

Three days after our 10k milestone post, we've passed another! OFFBEAT has now been wishlisted twenty-thousand times, which for our little game about making tunes with kids toys and garden gnomes, is wildly exciting. Huge thanks to those of you that have spent time with the Demo (our median play time is nearly an hour, which is an equally exciting metric) - we've lost a non-trivial amount of dev-time to listening to all your tracks, watching your streams and generally seeing how you interact with the game. As a game that will be going into early access before too long, this dialogue between you and us is really key, and we're going to be continuing to pay close attention. Ok that's it for now. As you were x Join the Discord to share your music with us (and share creative tips and solutions with other players).

  • Ten-Meowsand Wishlists! - 19 June 2026

The first big wishlist miilestone has been hit! Off the back of the new Next Fest Demo, OFFBEAT has now seen 10,000 wishlists, and not far off the same number of Demo activations. Music to our ears. Thanks to everybody that has checked out the game so far. If you've made music you're proud of, we'd love to hear it. We've created OFFBEAT Radio as a means of publishing and sharing the best music made by our players. As the game enters early access a little later this year, we'll be collating the best tracks and - with permission, of course - sharing these via our new record label. This could be you: Join the Discord to share your music with us (and share creative tips and solutions with other players). More soon x

  • Make actual songs with singing garden gnomes in Offbeat, a jobbing composer sim that doubles as an audio production tool - 6 May 2026

I've never properly attempted a musical career, despite owning multiple guitars and an amp stack that takes up too much room. Maybe I'll finally get my big break thanks to Offbeat, a song composition sim that also outputs the tunes you make as WAV files, doing the job of basic audio production software. It's from the same publishers behind Boxroom , the game that turns your Steam library into a room full of posters. Read more

  • Listen to the first single from OFFBEAT Radio - 6 May 2026

Hello! Ed from Whetstone Games here! We've lifted the lid! It's bloody off! We're excited to finally reveal OFFBEAT and give you a first look at the game.In putting together this announcement, we needed to create some music for the announce trailer. The game is literally about making music, so naturally I wanted to make the track using the game itself. So I fired up OFFBEAT, plugged the Tiger-01 into a delay pedal, and got to work. Anyway, long story short, Pantaloon liked it so much that they decided to release it! And that meant that our announce trailer morphed into the music video for our first single. Here's Not Your Uncle's Ringtone. I'm very proud of it:Listen on your favourite streaming platform. It all demonstrates something integral to the game, though. OFFBEAT is a game that lets anybody create and export their own music, and then potentially have their work in the game publish…
