- Summer update 7# - New Public Release Available! - 30 August 2026
Hi, everyone! I've just uploaded new public beta to the Itch.io. While the story content is still a placeholder, there was a major update to the DAW and visual part of the game. I noticed some shortcomings, but decided to push this version to Itch Instead of delaying it.There are loads of changes and improvements like:Effects upgrade - improved delay, reverb, Send & Return logic & performance effects. Improved GUI - Wheel menus, Master Tab, FX Tab, Game Menus, ButtonsFine tuned animation, pop & easing effectPlay All scenes feature - hold play.Save & Load a session - you can now save the session for later! Some shortcomings I noticed: Play All feature is not working in MP. FX: Bass FX knob can cause no sound on Bass; Phaser/Chorus are always on - fix will improve general audio quality; Some irregularities when app looses focus - restart should helpVocal Tab is not yet readyThe look of the…
- DAWG Public Beta is available on Itch - Free Public Beta test - 11 August 2026
Hello Everyone! After 10 months of development I've decide to release the latest public beta build for free on Itch.https://dawg-tools.itch.io/dawg-digital-audio-workstation-gameIt is now much closer to my original goal: a real music making system with a game built around it, rather than a game with some DSP bolted on.The audio engine is custom DSP written in C# and compiled with Unity Burst. It currently includes:- Subtractive, FM, and wavetable synthesis- Per instrument DSP chains- Live performance FX- Realtime parameter control and MIDI input- Custom live visualization following the signal through the complete DSP chain- Crossplatform multiplayer, sync of the clock, patterns and all DSP parameters in real timeIf interested - please give it a try and report back=)This public beta is mainly meant to test the DAW part of the game in public and in larger numbers. Some parts could still be…
- From Placeholders to Pixel Art - Building DAWG’s Bedroom Studio - 27 July 2026
From Placeholders to Pixel Art - Building DAWG’s Bedroom Studio I’ve got an exciting update, and this one is all about pixel art.I finally decided to tackle the delayed art pass... replacing the placeholder graphics and bringing the visual side of the game up to the same level as the rest of the project.Since I hadn’t worked with pixel art in a long time, getting the room’s perspective right took quite a bit of experimentation. Alongside the room itself, I also worked on furniture, music equipment, decorations, and other smaller details that help make the space feel like a real bedroom studio. The idea is that you begin with only the DAWG app and gradually unlock additional equipment as you progress through the story. These physical items will also unlock new DAW functionality, including:Additional drum lanes through the drum machineThe mixer through a rack mixerAudio visualization throu…
- Multiplayer Reveal + Less Heath (for the CPU) - 20 July 2026
Hey everyone! For this update, we have quite a few interesting developments in DAWG. After the latest addition of shaders and visuals, I noticed decreased performance on mobile devices, so the goal was to restore the performance and improve it even further. The main part of this improvement involved continuing to remove the managed DSP code that existed before I implemented Unity Burst. Since the whole engine was essentially rewritten for Burst, there were still many parity calculations, duplicated processes, and basic inefficiencies that affected performance and caused overheating on mobile devices.I am happy to say that the optimization worked. The oldest targeted device, a Samsung S8 from 2017 is now running very smoothly and is no longer overheating. For more modern devices, this still means less heat build-up over time and better battery life, so I think the work was worthwhile.Ther…
- Quick update - visual and audio quality update + VIDEO! - 7 July 2026
Hey! I have a short but important update. The visuals and audio quality have been upgraded and optimised, so I had a chance to test the DAWG in real time and I managed to record a quick testing session. Goal with visualisation was to get the premium analog looking screen and waveforms that respond to audio changes in real time so user has better idea of active sound modulation. The visualisation optimisation took quite some time and effort to get it to the same level as the audio engine. At the worst stage the visualisation was burning 3x more frames than the DSP :DIn the second video, you can check how techno 4/4 beat can be constructed and shaped into a track. What visualization options would you like to see? Enjoy the hot summer!
- Summer update - Visual and GUI overhaul & sound improvments - 1 July 2026
Hey!hope you are enjoying the hot summer so far. I am back from a quick break to refill the energy a bit.Since the last post I continued with the visual work, but this time it went deeper into the core visuals and also the sound engine. The goal was not only to make DAWG look better, but also make the interface explain the sound better while you are using it.Main things I improved:Drum & pad visuals: Work went into the rubber pad feel, shaders, labels, velocity feedback, button press feedback.New visual design of Beat Tab and main interfaceTuning panel overhaul: Tuning panel got a big GUI cleanup with better materials, cleaner sections, faders, improved contrast, colors and section layout. Improved Tuning panel with realistic dynamic shaders - WIP ;)New live screen section: Tuning panel now has a second screen area that opens from below and shows waveforms with real time visual feedbac…
- Major visual upgrade & Multiplayer news - 9 June 2026
Hey!Since my last post I have been working on visuals, mainly the look and feel of the "drum machine" pads. Previous look has not changed at all since I started the development, so beside the OKlab color implementation there was no texturing or shaders used at all. Unity is a perfect environment to play with the shaders, so after deciding on the look and feel I started with the implementation of shaders for the drum/note labels and grid pads. This seems like a pretty straight forward job, but when you are combining colours with note velocity - manually changed by user, things get a bit trickier. For the Beat tab I tried to get that drum machine rubber pad feel with LED underneath. The drum note labels are meant to be a bit tuned down and matte, so they are not drawing too much attention off the grid .New visual design - Rubber pads with Dynamic Velocity Melodic tabs are a bit different…
