- Game devs and players continue banding together to help the Australian bushfire crisis - 17 January 2020
Australia is still burning, but over the last couple of days they’ve actually had some rain ! While this is a big help to certain areas, there are still 83 fires blazing around the country, and there’s a lot of people and wildlife still in trouble. It’s good job then that there are even more game devs, companies, and communities banding together to help out our friends down under. A new Humble Bundle, a donation from the makers of Warframe , and a charity initiative run by Eve Online players are just three more ways the games industry is raising money, and you can get involved to show your support too. - Hand of Fate 2 studio Defiant is 'ceasing development' - 24 July 2019
Defiant Development, the Brisbane-based studio responsible for the Hand of Fate series, has announced it will cease development of new titles. According to a statement on the studio's Facebook page, it will continue "in caretaker mode" in order to continue support for its existing titles. "The games market has changed in ways both big and small in the nine years we've been in business," the studio's statement reads . "We have not been able to change quickly enough to continue with them." Founded in 2010, the studio is best known for its Hand of Fate series, which blended deck-building and live action third-person combat. The 2017 sequel was especially well received, with our reviewer describing it as "a satisfying sequel and a meatier dungeon crawler ".  The studio's announcement makes note that its development team will be looking for new jobs. Dargenom went the whole hog, constructing a complete challenge full of unique encounters, new characters and a fun take on the established Briarfolk lore that surprised more than a few people in the office. Building on the base-defence structure of the campaign's Justice challenge, Dargenom took the concept and made it his own with a number of fun tweaks and innovations. Defiant Development's excellent deck-building dungeon-crawler, Hand of Fate 2, has just received its second helping of paid DLC, known as The Servant and The Beast. This latest DLC offering is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One (it will be released on Switch "soon"), and adds a new campaign challenge and companion character to the core game, this time in the form of Veles the Shadow Beast. "In the depths of despair," reveals Defiant, "you struck a bargain with a strange new ally: your blood for freedom. But now your captors seek to drag you back to their cruel fighting pits, and the monstrous beast you serve demands more and more of you in order to achieve his ultimate goal - revenge against his conspirators and the reclamation of his throne."
