- Player Feedback - 7 September 2025
We got some great feedback on our community thread from noonecanplaylikeme! who made some great suggestions. Thank you so much for taking the time to give feedback!!We've added an indicator to let the player know the direction of the upgrade container when they drop. We've added more information to the upgrade section to make it clearer how upgrades have a chance of causing downgrades that make the game harder. The healthbar is now visible from the start, rather than being an optional upgrade. We've also added a downgrade that removes the health bar. We've also been investigating a Fatal error and believe we have found the cause, which was due to the player character trying to reference a nullptr.
- Locking in the Loop - 28 August 2025
We've been working hard to improve OBLITACRATER, and we're excited to share a ton of new changes in this latest update! We hope you enjoy them. As always, your feedback is invaluable, so please let us know what you like, dislike, and what you'd like to see in future updates!Major Gameplay UpdateSignificant adjustments have been made to the gameplay loop. Players now have the option to either re-enter the game or submit their accumulated score after each successful escape. Scores will no longer be automatically submitted to the leaderboard after each round; instead, they will be stored locally until the player chooses to conclude their run. This modification means that leaderboard entries are preserved, rather than being lost upon player death… which seemed a bit too mean. As part of this modification we have also changed a large number of upgrades to be persistent rather than only per d…
- Redesigning Upgrades - 29 May 2025
We have been taking a long hard look at how we do upgrades and made some changes that will add a lot more complex decision making. Upgrades now have a bug percentage chance which makes the game harder in different ways. This could make the player bigger, pixelate the world, or make the aliens harder to kill. As you progress through waves and add more upgrades, the chances of getting a bug or bugs with an upgrade increases. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/553a174be4b02fb0125c7f7c/46b30401-05c3-4f66-af7d-a17faf441383/image2.png?format=2500w We have added the following information how long the upgrade will last for Timed - The upgrade lasts for a specific amount of time (or until you escape the planet) Drop - Keep the upgrade for the length of the drop. Is removed on escape. Persist - Keep the upgrade between drops until you die Bug Chance Number of bugs that may be added. Pe…
- Our First Month! - 26 April 2025
It's been just over a month since launch, and some of our players are already outpacing us! We've been hard at work improving visual clarity and reducing ambiguity throughout the game. We've also made several adjustments to better support players retaining upgrades across multiple drops. These changes introduced some unexpected shifts in the gameplay loop, which we've been actively addressing to ensure a smooth and balanced experience. Upgrade panel We've introduced a timer to the upgrade panel. If you don't select an option within the time frame it will pick a random one for you. We have added icons and text letting you know what kinds of upgrade they are and how long they last for. Upgrade Changes Nerfed Shield upgrade power Increased bomb recharge time Increased Beam width upgrade Bug fixes Dash changes on frame rate Health bar doesn't go when the game resets Quality Of Life Weapon s…
- Week 3 Updates - 4 April 2025
This week we have made some changes to leaderboards and the dash mechanic! These changes were quite time consuming so we haven't added any new upgrades this time around. New Dash We have changed the dash to make you invulnerable while you are dashing, this means that you now pass through enemies that would previously have hurt you. We have also resolved a bug that changed your dash length based on your current framerate. New Leaderboards Leaderboards have been completely refactored to track most waves survived in one drop rather than the best individual score a player might get. This change is really important as it helps bring focus to both of the competing goals of the game, building a single running score and lasting as long as you can. Local Multiplayer Notify We play a small piece of text at the top left corner of the screen to let you know that other local players can join.
- Week 2 Updates - 28 March 2025
This week we have been working on adding new upgrades and fixing bugs. We've stripped out a leaderboard awards as we couldn't find a good way to do that at scale. New Upgrades We've added a bunch of new upgrades that offer more playthrough variety Random Points - Curse Add or Remove a random number of points between -10,000 and +10,000 Double Trouble - Curse Gives you an extra (random) upgrade everytime you pick an upgrade Remove Points - Curse Removes a certain number of points. There are three levels to this. Show Health - Upgrade Adds a health bar to the UI Let us know if there are any upgrades that you want to see in the game! Bug Fixes We've been busy squashing bugs this week to provide a more stable build of the game. Auto Secondary Switching not working Music doesn't reset sometimes Music not scaling correctly with enemies Upgrade drop rate not scaling with upgrade count Double U…
- Our First Week on Steam! - 21 March 2025
Our first week has flown by! We've been working hard to improve OBLITACRATER! Thank you to everyone who has bought the game, played the demo and posted feedback. Here are some new features that we have added to both the game and demo. New Features and Updates Added a Dash meter We have added a small dash meter around each player so you can tell when your dash has recharged. Persistant upgrades We've enabled persistnant upgrades on many of the upgrades you unlock. These will now persist between drops for as long as you survive. This means that each time you drop to the planet your ship becomes even more powerful!!! Localization We have added support for multiple languages in game. We now support French, German, Spanish, Korean, Japanese and Chinese. While we are in early access we will be a bit more sporadic in updating languages as the game changes but we will endevour to stay on top of…
