Latest Steam announcements
- Product Retirement - 4 January 2024
This product is about to be retired from Steam. It was an early product to allow users to view their own 3d models using an HTC Vive headset. I hope it proved valuable, but it is now quite out of date, and I stopped adding features many years ago. Therefore it makes sense to remove it from the Steam store.
- Added OBJ file support - 11 January 2017
The viewer now supports models in OBJ file format. I have also added the following improvements: - Diagnostic information describing if there were any issues when loading the model. - Support for textures in the DDS format - A new UI for scaling the model - Ability to rotate a model (OBJ files need this feature) - Improved the UI interaction: A single controller is used as the pointer. The trackpad can be used to scroll the Menu UI The version number shown on the main menu is 1.3.0

- Improve robustness for Agisoft - 17 August 2016
The model viewer was getting stuck at 10% when loading models created using Agisoft photoscan. A fix has been added. The new version number is 1.2.2

- Bugfix release for getting stuck at 35% - 16 August 2016
The previous version had a bug, where it would get stuck at 35% complete, when loading meshes with more than 65000 vertices. This has now been fixed. The progress reporting has also been improved to give more feedback during the busy part of the process. (This used to just say 35%, it now shows a more accurate % complete value). As a result of feedback it has now been tested with Collada models exported from Chief Architect 8.0. The version number has been updated to 1.2.1

- Support for more complex meshes - 14 August 2016
In the previous version the viewer could not show meshes with more than 65536 vertices. This limitation has now been removed. The change appears in version 1.2.0 (Version number will appear on the main menu). In the previous version the viewer would load the model, but only show the meshes that were smaller than the limit. It should now be possible to show much more complex meshes. The limiting factor to model sizes may now be the amount of RAM required for the model.

- Improvements to Collada import - 14 August 2016
The ModelViewer has been improved to deal with more complex DAE files. Collada models generated using DAZ studio were not being read successfully. This was because DAZ Studio exports 4 sided polygons, which the importer couldn't deal with. A fix has been added to convert 4 sided polygons into triangles. This fix may also improve the experience for users of other design tools. The fixed version of the software now has a version number (1.0.1) displayed on the main menu.
