A major aspect of Elsinore is changing. Warning: mild spoilers ahead! Many of you have played and supported the game in the last 10 months, and we're enormously grateful to you all. Throughout that time, one piece of feedback has remained consistent: players don't love the way our ending system works. This is us acknowledging that we hear you, and today we're releasing a new update to Elsinore which will allow you to continue playing after choosing an ending without your save file being destroyed. Why? When we set out to build Elsinore's final act, we knew that we wanted to capture the feeling that no matter what fate Ophelia chose for Elsinore, it was the final choice she would make. We believed most players would want to put down the game at that point and move on, so the save deletion was just our way of trying to reinforce "you can move on now." Happy New Year! We have released version 1.3.0 with some new features. We are also incredibly honored and excited to announce that Elsinore has been nominated for the 2020 Independent Games Festival. The game has been nominated for Excellence in Design and Excellence in Narrative, with two additional honorable mentions. New Features Added alternate, modern costumes for 6 characters: Ophelia, Hamlet, Claudius, Gertrude, Polonius, and Laertes. These can be activated in the Gameplay Options menu. Added Steam Trading Cards. Collect them all to unlock Elsinore-themed emoji, Steam backdrops, and profile badges. As with our past updates, when you update to this patch, your game saves will be advanced to the next time loop. - Elsinore is a Shakespearean Groundhog Day - 23 July 2019
It must be frustrating to create something with a time-looping premise when everyone talking about it is immediately going to compare it to Bill Murray film. Anyway, Elsinore is Hamlet meets Groundhog Day. It looks very neat.  Instead of a weatherman, we've got Ophelia, stuck in a four day loop that ends with everyone in Elsinore Castle dying. It's a point and click affair, where you'll need to explore the Danish castle and beyond and chat with its inhabitants in an attempt to tweak fate. Hamlet, Othello, Polonius—the whole gang is here.  The residents of Elsinore have their own schedules to keep, as well as needs and desires, but by lying, befriending, gossiping and other interactions, you can knock things out of their routine and change the timeline. We are reaching peak Groundhogbut. We’ve already had Groundhog ‘but it’s a murder party’ in The Sexy Brutale , and Groundhog ‘but you’re his son, in VR’ with Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son . We’ve got Groundhog ‘but the sun keeps exploding’ in The Outer Wilds , Groundhog ‘but it’s 12 Minutes of arguing with your wife’ is due in 2020, and Arkane Studios’ Groundhog ‘but assassins’ is in the pipes with Deathloop . To tide you over, here’s Groundhog ‘but you’re Ophelia off of Hamlet’. Elsinore launched yesterday. You poke around Shakespearean Denmark, spreading rumours and changing the (recurring) fates of the cast. I can’t speak to the payoff, yet, but it’s certainly an intriguing set-up.
