- Small Update - Patch 0.7.1 - 9 September 2022
Hey everyone! I've just uploaded a new minor patch that fixes many longstanding bugs & enhances/refines a few aspects of the game. These last few months I've been working non-stop on building new gameplay features & creating new mechanics/systems for the upcoming major content patch. However these new features are still a little while away, so for the most part this patch is mainly for stability & bug fixes, with a few visual enhancements & quality of life improvements sprinkled in. Here are the patch notes: Minor Update 0.7.1: Foliage is now randomly spread around on grass, giving the background terrain a much improved look Rebalanced many customer stat changes when using many basic objects like drink fountains Many clunky GUI elements like buttons have been completely remade, to allow for future expandability Hotkeys are now available for many NPC/Object actions like Selling, Relocati…
- Major Update 0.7.0 - 14 June 2022
Hey everyone! It's finally time for the next major update! This one is by FAR the biggest patch the game has ever had. It has changes & improvements for basically every part of the game. There's essentially nothing that hasn't been reworked or expanded upon in one way or another. In addition to all the the changes to things, there's a new type of class, new manager abilities, heaps of employee & trainer additions, a review system overhaul, a bunch of new clothing options, new achievements, new stats & so on.. I certainly can't cover all the changes here (I'll leave that to the patch notes below), so I want to briefly talk about a few important changes: Firstly, probably the most common request I've had basically since release is for proper UI scaling, so people with large or small screens won't have an interface that becomes all blurry or distorted. Since I originally designed it for 10…
- February Progress Update - 15 February 2022
Hello everyone! It's been a month or so since any updates/news & I want to avoid any more large periods of little communication, so I'm going to post a little progress update. I've been hard at work on the next major patch (it has a huge number of changes) & while I can't really share too much info just yet I thought I'd share a couple of things I've been working on for next patch. In the past weeks I've been working on overhauling some of the older, less visually appealing parts of the User Interface. Particularly the ugly resume & review windows. I've made a few changes to how reviews work, for starters, ALL customer reviews are now saved rather than just the last 20. And there's now 2 review scores, 'Recent' & 'All Time'. Here's how the new review window looks now: There are still a few changes left to make here & there but overall I think it's a big improvement on the old review win…
- Small Update - Patch 0.6.3 - 23 December 2021
Hey again everyone! Time for another update! Just a small-ish one that I managed to get done just in time for Christmas! The next major update is still a little while off so to fill the void I've added a few nice additions to go along with a bunch of bug fixes. After seeing a few requests I've added an experimental 8x game speed to go along with the 2x/4x speeds. Beware though, lower end hardware users may notice stuttering or framerate issues (especially on large end-game saves) as all AI paths & decisions are calculated 8x more than at regular speed. There's also 2 new achievements for the achievement-hunters out there. Here's the full 0.6.3 changelog: ―Changes & Improvements― • Global lighting over the day/night cycle has been adjusted: Peak daytime brightness (10am-3pm) lasts longer Very early mornings (12am-3am) are now a little darker Afternoons (2pm-7pm) are now a little brighter…
- Small Update - Patch 0.6.2 - 2 December 2021
Hey everyone! Time for an update. Just a small one this time, it contains various graphical changes/upgrades & fixes a number of fairly significant issues some players have been having. These graphical updates were originally going to be part of a larger update coming down the track however I decided that since the changes stand on their own I can just release them early included with a regular bug-fix patch. Here's the changelog for 0.6.2: ―Visual & Graphics Changes― • Diner booth is now rotatable • Added new Diner Booth color option • Couches sprites have been improved & now have 4 color options • Wooden Bench rotation sprites have been greatly improved • Shower sprite has been improved • Spa has been redrawn & now seats up to 4 customers at a time • Redrew & improved various additional sprites ―Bug Fixes― • Ceilings can no longer be built atop pre-existing ceilings • Fixed a number o…
- Patch 0.6.1 - 18 November 2021
Hello everyone, it’s update time once again! It took me a little longer than expected to get this patch out, mostly because I've been working on a major addition which I decided to exclude from this patch because it was taking too long to develop. Regardless, this patch has a number of new additions, fixes a huge amount of bugs & addresses many issues left over from the porting process. This patch should significantly increase stability across various machines as well as fix a number of stutter & performance issues. In terms of new additions, this update focuses heavily on employees. So lets get into what's new: Employee Lounge Employees with nothing to do now have a place to chill out & recharge. Like many things in this game, this new zone has been designed to be useful, but not entirely mandatory, especially in the early game. Different employee types will interact with the Lounge in…
- Major Update - 0.6.0 - 28 July 2021
Hey people, it's time for another major update! I’m super excited to announce the release of 0.6.0 & the completion of the game engine port! This is by a wide margin the largest update so far, not necessary in terms of new content, but instead the sheer amount of work done to the ‘framework’ of the game. With the release of this update, I can finally start to focus on releasing new content & game mechanics without fear of the old game engine losing compatibility with steams API and thus losing the ability to release new patches. You can read more about the porting process & why it was necessary in the progress update I posted a few weeks ago. So, aside from being on an updated engine, what else is new? Lets get into that: I’ll post the full changelog at the bottom. Architecture & Performance Improvements Firstly, as part of the port the game is now using 64bit architecture. In addition…
- Progress Update & 0.6.0 beta access - 11 July 2021
Hey everyone, it's been a good while! I want to update you all on the progress of the upcoming engine port & answer some questions. Although I've been mostly silent recently on these forums, I've been very hard at work in order to get this latest patch ready. It's by far the largest patch to date in terms of development hours. And due to being ported to the updated game engine, this patch makes changes, however big or small, to almost every part of the game. So many changes in fact, that I felt the need to do this short beta test so any owners can jump in & test it before the patch is fully released. So if you're interested in trying the new patch a little early (it's live right now), you can read about how to do that at the bottom of this post. But for now, I'll do my best to answer some questions about how development has been progressing. What's been taking so long? So, if you've rea…
- Minor Update 0.5.3 - 22 March 2021
Hey everyone, time for another update! So I've been hard at work on the next major content patch & upcoming engine port, which means there's not a great deal of new content in this patch. But even though this is a minor patch in terms of new content, it's a major patch in terms of framework changes & upgrades. These changes will make future development & much faster, easier & far less prone to bugs. Boring technical stuff here, skip down to the changelog to see the important stuff. To give an example of what I'm talking about, in the past if I wanted to add a single new floor or wall to the game, I'd need to go through a bunch of scripts scattered all around the project & add code for it manually, go through menu code & make space for it, go through the research tree code & add it where it needs to go & then testing it all etc.. this would take a long time. But now as of this patch, add…
- Minor Update - 0.5.2 - 17 February 2021
Hey everyone, time for another update. Nothing major this time, just a small, mid-cycle patch that fixes some critical bugs & adds some useful quality of life features. Notably, a progression mistake has been fixed that allowed players to unlock the Infirmary along with the Medical Cabinet before the Storage Shelf was unlocked, leaving the player unable to have their janitors stock the Medical Cabinet. To fix this, the Storage Shelf now unlocks with Essentials, so players will have access to it at the start of the game. Here's a full list of the patch notes: - Bins now have a 'Empty Upon Closing' checkbox that means if checked, all bins will be flagged for emptying when the Rec Center closes. - Storage shelves similarly now have a 'Restock All When Closed' checkbox that when checked, causes everything that uses stock to be flagged for a full restock while the Rec Center is closed. Allow…
- January Update - 22 January 2021
Hey everyone, it's update time! Not a huge one this time, mostly just fixing new bugs introduced with the latest major patch as well as some older ones. Also a number of framework upgrades, a tonne of project cleanup like deleting old scripts, organising code & assets to make things smoother the upcoming game engine port. Here's the full changelog: Gameplay & Engine Changes: - The Mess system has been completely overhauled in preparation for upcoming porting. The end result will look the same but should increase performance & decrease stutter for large Rec Centers. - The Employee Binding system has been re-built from scratch & should (hopefully) now be bug free As part of this, cooks can no longer be bound to specific cafe counters, however they can now be bound to Cafeteria & Event zones - Lifeguard AI has had many significant changes & fixes - Children now create 25% less mess - Pausi…
- Major Update – Patch 0.5.0 - 22 December 2020
Hey everyone it’s finally time for the next major update! It's been a long while since the last one! Adding the nurse, infirmary, injuries & new techs turned out to be a far bigger task than I had imagined. The good news is that as a result of the wait, this update is by the biggest so far by a wide margin! There are almost too many changes to list here so I'll go over the most important ones. Something to note: Since this update adds & changes so many things, there's an increased likelihood of running into bugs over the next few days. Should you encounter any, make sure you send me an email to [email protected] so I can get them fixed asap. The main highlights of this update are: New Additions: - New Zone: Infirmary - New Objects: First Aid Terminal, Medical Cabinet, Medical Bed - New Research Techs: Infirmary & Liability Waver - New Mechanic: Injuries Be on your toes because i…
- September Progress Update - 26 September 2020
Hello everyone! I want to give a progress update on how patch 0.5.0 is coming along. There's quite a lot to do this patch so it's still a little while away but I've made a lot of great progress so far and I want to give a small sample of a few of the new upcoming additions. I mentioned in my previous update that a new profession is coming, that profession is the Nurse. Nurse The Nurse is a new employee whose job it is to keep everyone healthy & safe. They benefit most from the Cleanliness stat and the Caring (now renamed to Compassion) stat. A nurse that's also a fast walker may be particularly useful too as they might need to rush to the aid of someone after an injury. The nurse will come with a new zone: the First Aid Room, along with a few new objects like the Medical Bed & Medical Cabinet. There are now various types of injuries that can now occur around your Rec Center which I'll g…
- August Update - Patch 0.4.5 - 19 August 2020
Hey everyone it's time for an update. I'm still hard at work on the next major update (0.5.0) which will include the Reviews overhaul & a new profession amongst other things. This is a slightly smaller update which adds a few frequently requested features and a host of bug fixes & performance increases. Here's a quick overview of what this patch contains: Task Priorities: You are now able to change your managers, builders & janitors task priorities. If you're sick of your Janitors prioritising watering plants over cleaning mess or builders leaving repairing equipment until last, you can now easily change task priorities by clicking the up or down arrow next to a task as shown in this screenshot: Also in this screenshot you can see an example of the next addition: Builder Repair Threshold: If you click on a builder you'll see a percentage next to their "Repair" option. Changing this will…
- July Update – Patch 0.4.2 - 2 July 2020
Hey everyone it’s time for another update! It’s been a little while since the last one due to eye surgery putting me out of work for a few weeks but everything is back to normal and I hope to resume my regular monthly major updates. The main highlights of this update are: Statistics collection: Over the last month I’ve completely rewritten the way almost all background stats are collected & handled, greatly expanding the players ability to view info about their Rec Center. Before this patch, stats were collected on a per day basis, after the day had ended, the information was lost. Now, all stats are collected and sorted in a giant 2d array that grows each in-game day & information is never lost. Graphs: Since stats for previous days are now collected & saved, I was able to revamp the Finance menu & tabs and add way to view over-time progress graphs. Now you can view long term growth &…
- End of May Progress Update - 29 May 2020
Hey everyone! I just wanted to give you guys an update on the next upcoming patch. I mentioned last month that this next patch would be a little late due to getting PRK eye surgery which put me out of work for a few weeks, slowing down development. My vision has recovered & I'm back in full swing now but it's going to take a couple more weeks until the next patch is ready. I've put a lot of work into it so far and it's shaping up well. One of the major things I've focused on this patch is performance optimisation. A common issue that affects many users with low-end hardware is framerate dips, particularly while the Research & Staff menus are up. In the current Steam build my own uncapped framerate goes from 1300 fps to around 500 fps with the Research menu open. This can be the difference between 60 & 30 fps on low-end hardware. The good news is that in the latest upcoming patch I've re…
- April Update - 1 May 2020
Hey everyone it's update time again! Sorry it was a few days later than usual this time but I got a good amount done. The main highlights of this patch are: Mess Tracking: Click on a bin to see some stats about how mess is being handled throughout your Rec Center, like the ratio of mess thats being dropped on the floor vs being put in bins. This will help you optimise bin placement for greater coverage to keep your Rec Center clean. This is important because you'll need to prove you can run a clean business to unlock the Childcare technology! Childcare Facility: Busy customers are now able to pay an hourly price to leave their children in your childcare facility, should you choose to build one. This will make your Rec Center more appealing to certain people and provide a small boost to daily customers. Set your own custom Childcare hours & keep the children happy with the new equipment…
- March Update - 26 March 2020
Hey everyone, it's update time! I've just uploaded patch 0.3.2 and I wanted to give a small overview of the additions. The biggest changes this patch are: - Food Quality System: An employees 'Cooking' Skill now affects the quality of food being served in addition to the speed of cooking. Poor quality food now increases the likelyhood of food poisoning and can lead to bad reviews. Good quality food now leads to a customer mood boost and better reviews. You can see the quality of the food in a cafe or catering table by selecting it. - Customer AI changes: Customer AI during events/parties has been altered significantly to make reviews more accurate & allow for future additions & changes. - Framework upgrades: I've made many upgrades to hidden background systems, for example the way reviews & events are handled have had overhauls. These changes aren't visible in-game but they make things m…
- Patch 0.3.1 - 26 February 2020
Hello all! I've uploaded a new patch today that includes a feature that many have requested since launch which is Sandbox mode! This new addition allows you to choose custom settings when making a new game. I've attached a screenshot below that will give you a good idea how it works. While in-game you can mouse-over the checkboxes when setting up sandbox mode for a detailed description of what each checkbox does but I'll give you a rundown here: - Starting Money Set your initial starting money anywhere between $1,000 & $10,000,000,000 - Free Points Choose how many stat points you want your manager to start with, up to 100. - Tax Rate Set your tax rate from between 0% - 50% if you like an extra challenge. - Disable Challenges This removes the little challenges required to unlock each new technology in the research tree. - Instant Research As you might guess this removes the time it takes…
- Febuary update - Patch 0.3.0 released! - 11 February 2020
Hey guys, it's time for another update! Patch 0.3.0 has just released & I want to talk about some of the new things that have been added. 2 new technologies have been added to the Research menu. They are: - Market II This includes a new zone & item: the Shop. With this tech, you are now able to sell things in your Rec Center like supplements, gym gear & swimming gear to make a nice little profit. - Bulk Buy This reduces the price you pay for stock by 50%. This is a significant upgrade because it means you will earn higher profit on things like the Vending Machine & Cafe. Also you are now able to click on customers to see what their most recent thoughts are, what they've liked/disliked. Here's a full list of patch notes: - New Tech: Merchant II - New Tech: Bulk Buy - New Zone/Object: Shop - It's now possible to see a customers most recent thoughts & opinions on your Rec Center - Small ch…
