Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. I feel like such a hypocrite whenever I bemoan the shortage of games about massive spaceship combat. Nexus – The Jupiter Incident may have given me 16 years to get round to it, but I still haven’t played more than its first couple of missions, and I’m honestly not sure why. (more…)
- Update 1.03: GUI Scaling Added, Added Optional Mods Feature, Fixes & Steam Workshop Support - 4 December 2016
ADDITIONS • Added GUI scaling option for use with very high display resolutions. FIXES • Eliminated administrator mode dependency when installed into Program Files. Saved games, logs etc. are stored in the user’s AppData folder. • Restored Windows XP compatibility. • Fixed incorrect loading back of in-mission saves containing ship formations causing crash when the formation leader destroyed. • Fixed unwanted activation of absolute ship movement when switching to Steam panel with Shift+Tab. MODDING ADDITIONS • Added Steam Workshop support. • Added the feature “optional mod”. These can be switched on/off individually and used along either the main campaign, multiplayer or any of the standalone mods overriding their models, textures, movies, sounds, missions etc. • A standalone mod can be an alternation of the main campaign iself. After we acquired the Nexus franchise our goal was to make the game experience better but unfortunately our hands were tied for a long time. Now we were finally able to do actual work on Nexus and this resulted in a lot that we actually did. ADDITIONS • Added option to use the current desktop resolution. It’s the default. • Enabled using modern monitor resolutions including Full HD. • Added correct displaying of GUI elements, briefings and subtitles with modern monitor aspect ratios: 16:9, 16:10, 21:9 • Added separate field-of-view setups for different monitor aspect ratios. • Added VSync option. It’s on by default. • All available text languages are selectable from the launcher. • All available audio languages are selectable from the launcher. • Added multiplayer NAT resolver to help connecting to Internet servers. • Added accepting Steam invites for multiplayer game. To access the beta please do the following: Follow this guide http://ds.nordicgames.at/SteamBetaBranchGuide.jpg Under Step 1 select "Nexus: The Jupiter Incident" There is no password needed The branch for Step 6 is named community What we did: -) Added German and Russian localization files (including audio) -) Added DX9 runtime install -) Improved the install script so that language changing and run as admin works -) Extracted all the data from the nexus_00.dap and nexus_00.dat (more mod friendly) -) Failed to find Steam should be gone. We would like to do even more but unfortunately the source code seems lost and without that much more isnt really possible I am afraid. Please let me know if you see any issues with this update.

- Nexus: The Jupiter Incident Sequel? Maybe. - 5 October 2011
Here’s an interesting thing that has arrived from a number sources into my inbox (thanks, all! I know you aren’t intentionally supporting World Space Week …) – the possibility of a sequel for much-beloved space combat strategy Nexus: The Jupiter Incident from members of the original team, now called Most Wanted Entertainment. They talk about their plans here , but the upshot of it is that are hoping to crowdfund it via the GamesPlant service. They want to raise quite a lot of cash, and I’m a bit sceptical as to whether that is going to happen. Either way, it’s the first serious effort we’ve seen toward a sequel since a tech demo leak (video below) from six years ago . I’ve also posted the more recent Nexus 2 concept trailer below. (more…)
