- Best LGBT+ games to play beyond Pride Month - 29 June 2023
Queer identity isn't just confined to 30 days of the year; it's the lifeblood of so many communities, all across the globe. To celebrate that queerness, we've got a list of the best LGBT+ games on PC to come out in recent years. Spanning a wide range of genres and sexualities, our collection is guaranteed to have something for everyone, whether you're a dating sim traditionalist or a platforming aficionado. Some of the best PC games offer you the chance to romance characters of the same gender, but we've opted to focus on games that position queerness at the center of their design. We've also curated this list in a way that celebrates the entire spectrum of the LGBTQIA+ community - and while many of our picks incorporate the struggles and anxieties that surround the queer experience, they're ultimately defined by hope rather than tragedy. Read the rest of the story... RELATED LINKS: The…
- Check out HOMEBODY - 2 June 2023
Hey Dads!!! Our amazing narrative designer Jory Griffis just released his new survival-horror game (co-written by DDADDS co-creator Leighton Gray)! Check out HOMEBODY, from Game Grumps and Rogue Games. It's a bittersweet, sad, earnest story with fun characters and some silly jokes. And puzzles! The tone is a lot like Dream Daddy, only it's scary and you die a lot. It would mean a lot to us if you gave it a try!
- Pride Week: Hunky Dads & Voxel Flags - Video Games and Our Queer Future - 29 June 2021
Hello! All this week Eurogamer is celebrating Pride with a series of stories examining the confluence of LGBT+ communities and play in its many different forms, from video games and tabletop games through to live-action role-play. Next up, Sharang examines the way players are using video games to explore the potential of a queerer future. When we talk about videogames as "escapism", we tend to focus on provenance : we're escaping from the humdrum of our jobs, our obligations, the petty horrors that fill modern life. Seldom do we focus on destination. Where are we escaping to ? Is it actually a better world than the one we're attempting to leave behind? Videogames can offer us worlds we might like to live in; can they offer us worlds we can live in? And particularly for queer people, what does that world look like? In Tracing Utopia , a documentary that premiered in the International Fil…
- Have You Played… Dream Daddy? - 27 November 2020
Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. I’ve never really played many dating simulator games. Back when Dream Daddy first came out, I gave it a go, and had a solid time overall. I went on some nice dates with a handsome coffee shop owner and he introduced me to the band PUP, who have a load of absolute angsty bangers. (more…)
- For the second year running, the Glaad awards look like they're missing the mark on celebrating queer representation - 9 January 2020
Glaad (formerly known as the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) have brought their media awards back for the 31st year, and for the second year in a row they’re recognising video games “for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community and the issues that affect their lives”. Last year, Jay Castello wrote about how these video game awards highlight difficulties in celebrating queer representation , and this year it’s slighty better, but it still feels a bit like it’s missing the point. - The 10 best visual novels on PC - 29 November 2019
On a rainy night, some people enjoy getting comfy, grabbing their beverage of choice, and curling up with a good book. Some others like doing the same exact thing, but with a game. I say, why not both? Visual novels are the perfect genre of game to curl up with. Here s our collection for the ten best visual novels. (more…)
- Why visual novels are a haven for LGBT+ stories - 12 April 2019
As a young queer woman, often I have to ask myself what media I want to consume in my video games. Sometimes it s simply picking the next best thing that includes LGBT+ representation, even if that representation is actually pretty damn awful. There are limits when it comes to certain genres, as well as the type of game, be it indie or giant global studio. LGBT+ representation is much harder to come across in FPS shooters, or even in action-adventure games. Luckily, there s an increasingly popular kind of game that s giving me more options. LGBT+ visual novels, along with LGBT+ developers who put in a huge amount of work to deliver unique, respectful and interesting stories, are challenging my old mindset completely. Instead of settling for the next best thing of having a gay character who is there but later killed off, or is sad and alone, these VNs allow queer sexuality and love to pl…
- 7 more games that could use a Geralt of Rivia guest appearance - 12 February 2019
I worry about Geralt. The Witcher series may be over for now, but this hasn’t stopped Geralt from taking odd jobs here and there, slaying beasts in Monster Hunter: World , or stabbing folks in Soul Calibur VI . Is Geralt getting adequate retirement benefits? Have witchers unionized yet? I hope he can get some rest, or at least find more contract work that doesn’t involve exterminating monsters all the time. Freelancing is tiring. Here are seven games that need to be blessed by Geralt s presence. (more…)

- You'll soon be able to date your Dream Daddy on PlayStation 4 - 17 October 2018
Daddy dating game Dream Daddy will soon be dispensing its delightful daddies for the delectation of PlayStation 4 owners, starting on October 30th. Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator launched on PC last year and quickly became something of an internet sensation. Turns out everyone's thirsty for daddies. It casts players in the role of a lonely single father (daddy) who moves into Maple Bay with their daughter Amanda. The game itself unfolds in classic visual novel style, with players - having established an avatar of their own - able to pursue the hot daddy of their dreams through conversation, mini-games, and good old-fashioned (off-screen) boinking. Choice daddies include Mat, Craig, Hugo, Brian, Damien, Robert, and Joseph. A quick Eurogamer staff poll appears to agree that Robert is the best daddy. Read more…

- How much say do developers have in their schedules? - 3 November 2017
I'm talking to Jake Birkett of Grey Alien Games, developer of Regency Solitaire and upcoming card-based RPG Shadowhand . "It occurred the day after I had done some kind of crunch until 5 am," he says. "I got up in the morning and crawled under my desk to switch the plugs on, and my back went out. I'm just in my early 40s now." In a blog post from 2015 , creative director Clint Hocking said the 80-hour weeks he worked during the development of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory "gave me brain damage". Whether or not crunch time is necessary to release a game ‘on time' is a perennial topic in game development circles. The web connecting contractors, publishers, platform holders and developers that determines how release dates are decided upon, and whether they actually get met, is obscured behind a cloud of non-disclosure agreements. When you throw the possibility of commun…
- Get a free PC Gamer ebook worth $10/ 10 when you vote in the Golden Joystick Awards 2017 - 17 October 2017
The voting for the Golden Joystick Awards presented with Omen by HP closes in just under three weeks (November 3rd), and before that happens, we want to see our favourites from the last 12 months get the recognition they deserve. Not to manipulate the process because we want all the PC games to win in every category, or anything, but because there are so many amazing projects nominated that we want to celebrate.  If you vote, too, you get a free digital copy of The Best PC Games Ever, which we published earlier this year. Take a look here for more information on what's inside, but it contains a great making of feature on the All Ghillied Up mission from Call of Duty 4, retrospectives on classics like Red Alert 2, Deus Ex, Max Payne 2 and tons more. All you have to do is vote, enter your email, then you'll receive instructions on claiming this lovely-looking digital book.…

- Humble s got a Very Positive thing going on right now - 26 September 2017
Not only does Humble currently have its second ‘Very Positive’ bundle going on right now, the site is now listing a separate sale, appropriately titled the ‘Very Positive Sale’ . As with the bundle, the sale features a bunch of games all with ‘Very Positive’ or higher ratings on Steam right now, with discounts of up to 80%. Before you ask, yes, that means you can get Dream Daddy for 9.89 / $13.49. Also featured are things like lovely retro Metroid-like Axiom Verge , perpetual Early Access feudal RPG Kenshi , the Homeworld Remastered Collection , Sniper Elite 4 and more. We covered the strange adventure possible in Kenshi quite recently. In a year that gave us Divinity: Original Sin 2’s hungry elves and face-stealing undead , it’s astonishing to realise that Kenshi has weirder cannibalistic possibilities than Larian’s latest masterpie…
- A dreamy update! - 30 July 2017
Hello, Dads! We're all thrilled about the response to the game and want to thank you all sincerely for playing. Today's update should fix a lot of the issues we've had reported to us over the past week. Here are the changes... Fixed inconsistency in mother/father choice during the intro. You know how forgetful Dads can be but that was a bit much. Corrected other consistency errors based on player choices during the intro, especially during the cookout. Fixed a variety of animation/character movement/transition bugs throughout the game. Also fixed a handful of grammar, spelling, and dialogue issues throughout the game. Fixed an issue that caused Joseph's twins to randomly reappear in the Diner in Craig's path. We're not always gonna be around to fight your battles for you, but this was a weird one. Those kids had to go. Rebalanced choices related to Amanda so it should be easier to see h…

- You showed us your dream daddies, and we're eternally grateful - 29 July 2017
Last week we asked you to show us your dream daddies . No, not your ideal father figures in real life, but the man you imagine when you think of—well, the imaginary cartoon man you'd like to guide through the choppy waters of the dad dating scene. And by dad dating, we mean dads dating other dads, exclusively. It's the premise of Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator, which starts of with a great character customizer, proven by some of the fantastic fathers you sent our way. Here are some of the best entries we received, with their provided descriptions attached (if they had one).  Some comments have been edited for grammar and clarity. Dad: Hulk Hogan Designed by: Katarzyna Vidavidtch "Oops." What you do mean, oops? Dad: Adam Wilde Designer: Mathilde Semin "Adam Wilde, the Hipster Dad. ( Am I using "hipster" right ? Help me, Amanda ! ) King of trying too hard, very…
- Podcast: The Electronic Wireless Show talks Pyre, Dream Daddy, and horror - 27 July 2017
What’s that unsettling white noise coming from the other room? Oh no, it’s the 10th episode of the RPS podcast, the Electronic Wireless Show . This week, the gang are talking about horror in games (but not necessarily “horror games”). Adam and Brendan are terrified by the depths of Subnautica , which doesn’t frighten Pip in the slightest. But we also like playing non-scary things. Brendan has been competing in the purgatorial fantasy sport of Pyre , and Adam has been catching fish and watching tranquil sunsets in Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles . Meanwhile, Pip has been dating dads in the gay suburban utopia of Dream Daddy . There’s also reader questions, in which we return to the subject of horror, and experience the shrill scream of a truly terrifying beast… (more…)
