- v 1.2.3.1 Now Live - Stability & Peformance - 10 September 2026
I was planning to release this patch on the beta branch before sending it live, but there was a couple of bugs, already fixed in this build, that ended up causing problems in the 1.2.2 branch that was released earlier in the week. So! I went ahead and pushed this branch live as well and things in general should be running smoother all around now.v 1.2.3.1MultiplayerJoining dedicated servers bug fixedBetter messaging when a join failsFixed a bug that could position a client improperly on server joinFixed a MP specific shrine bugCleaned up some annoying logs on dedicated servers World generation & terrainDungeon generation is spread over a few frames and you drop in once it is ready Resources & procedural spawningThe draw Distance setting better drives how far objects stream inObject streaming can now handle more real objects appear per frameDistant world data now properly cleaning itself…
- NPC Towns & Merchants - now live in v1.2.2.2 - 6 September 2026
Merchants have been re-enabled in this build along with procedural NPC towns! They're still pretty basic, but it opens up a lot of opportunities for creating different kinds of NPCs.I've been crazy busy! This patch was ready days ago, but I kept finding little bugs the more I was able to playtest it. Hopefully there is nothing serious left. THOUGH, I do have a second patch ready to go up on beta tomorrow with some deeper level changes in the code that should get rid of more outlier case bugs, help prevent and track down bugs in the future, and improve performance. This patch and all going forward are also running in C++ now! This means the game runs faster on the CPU. For a lot of people, like me, it's actually the GPU that is blocking a higher framerate, but this improves dedicated server speed quite a bit, and if you've got a beefy GPU, you might even be getting better FPS with these n…
- Patch v1.2.1.3 + new C++ builds - 23 July 2026
Thank you to everyone that has posted a bug report or sent one in from the in-game console. I have tracked down and corrected around two dozen bugs for this patch, as well as added in a number of safety fallbacks for things that could otherwise cause a server disconnect, or in-game error.I've also worked on adding a lot of automated tests under the hood over these past few months. There are now over 10,000 checks including monster drops, biome & heightmap parity checks, building placement, all kinds of stuff that can go wrong with changes to the game code.I've also uploaded C++ versions to the beta branches both for standard client builds and dedicated server builds. These builds should increase the CPU speed quite noticeably for users with a very strong GPU. If you're like me with a 10 year old GPU you're likely "GPU bound" which means that the CPU is usually waiting for the GPU to fin…

- Major Update v1.2 Now Live! - 29 June 2026
Believe it or not, I've been working on this game for 10 years now! What started as a dream from someone with no prior experience coding or working with Unity, certainly not in the gaming industry, has grown considerably with this latest patch. In all honesty, parts of Solace Crafting prior to this patch were still running on spaghetti I had written back in 2017. This isn't a complete overhaul fixing every last shortcoming of what I started so long ago, but it's a huge step forward, and I'm so thankful to everyone that has helped me make it this far. I hope to continue to make improvements to Solace Crafting until the end of my days, regardless of whether I am able to release other games or embark on other adventures.Huge shoutout to the beta testers in Discord that have kept me busy the past week ironing out all the little bugs in a game with so many different systems and locations. Maj…
- Big beta patch v 1.2 - 25 June 2026
Big patch up on beta right now that I've been working on for a long time. I was hoping to have it cleaned up for the start of the Steam Summer Sale, but I need 1 more day with it. Mostly just testing, optimization, and a little wiring. I wanted to get a blurb up though to make sure everyone knows it's coming! Please note that the current beta upload is for single player Windows only. If all goes according to plan tomorrow I will upload the Linux and server builds as well.Major changes * NEW TERRAIN ENGINE — The world now runs on a custom mesh-based terrain system (replacing Unity's built-in terrain). Faster streaming, seamless LOD, and the groundwork for a much larger visible world, better post- processing, and improved performance. * GPU-DRIVEN VEGETATION — Trees, plants, rocks, and grass are now placed and rendered on the GPU. Far more vegetation on screen with far fewer hitches. * REW…
- Hotfix v 1.1.1.11 - 11 March 2026
I've tried to gather and address all the recent bug reports. There are some "problems" that need improving still for sure, but I think I've got all the actual errors sorted out with this 3rd patch. The facility loading and saving bugs were persisting against my initial fixes but should be fully sorted out, now once again operating on the same systems that they operated on without problems in past. To ensure all your newly/recently placed facilities are fixed (storage chests, forges, teleporters, etc), picking them up and putting them back down will ensure they are moved back into the correct systems. Please let me know if (preferably in Discord) if you run into any more bugs, as I continue to smooth some things out under the hood and on the development side of things.v 1.1.1.11 2026.03.10 - Improved missing building materials error message - Fixed problems with different types of facilit…
- Hotfix v 1.1.1.10 - 4 March 2026
Had a nasty bug to go with the new systems that was making facility slots not interact properly after being saved and loaded. I had a busy start to the week and wasn't able to get on top of this until today. Sorry it ended up sitting for a few days. There are a few smaller problems I'm still looking into, but wanted to get this up right away.v 1.1.1.10 2026.03.04- Fixed a bug causing reloaded facilities to not accept input properly - Fixed lightning and lightning audio not working properlyWhat You Can Do To Help - Keep up the kind words on our Steam posts and the Likes - You can get and support the builder here: https://bigkittygames.itch.io/solace-builder - Drop by our IndieDB page to help make it visible: https://www.indiedb.com/games/solace-crafting-rebuild - Support on our Ko-fi page here: https://ko-fi.com/bigkittygames Join us in Discord!

- Update v 1.1.1.6 goes Live! - 25 February 2026
Kyle here.I've been working hard behind the scenes, and today we are officially moving the latest beta patch over to the live branch. Along with pushing the Solace Builder integration to live, we’ve packed in some additional fixes, upgrades, and improvements including upgrades to how characters move and animate. Over the past year, I’ve finally recognized that one of the major shortcomings of Solace Crafting has been the overall presentation and feel of the gameplay. I started making Solace Crafting in 2017, if you can believe it, and after so many thousands of hours of familiarity with it I was really turning a blind eye to some of the earliest basic systems that have just kind of come along this whole journey and never really seen any major updates. Redoing the player movement code and updating non-combat animations is a big step toward fixing that.Moving forward, my immediate goal is…
- Producer's Letter #9 + Beta v1.1.1.3 - 10 February 2026
Hello everyone, and welcome to the ninth Producer’s Letter for Solace Crafting.I’m Fab and today will be yet another dense producer’s letter, as a lot of work has been going on behind the scenes, so let’s get into it.A quick recapWe previously discussed the plans and work in progress regarding new buildings and locations for Solace Crafting. Over our posts and response to comments, we’ve detailed our vision and approach for this little Solace ecosystem. We weren’t always as clearly spoken or as clearly heard as needed but with this first update it’s finally time to make big steps towards implementation. Solace Builder Into Solace CraftingOver the past year, most of our work has gone into structural things, the kind of stuff that’s not immediately visible and that might even look like a sidetrack at times. Some has been behind the scenes and by nature invisible, some, in the form of Sola…
- v 1.1.1.1 rolled back temporarily - 21 December 2025
Hey folks,Had a bit of an asset mishap bringing stuff into SC that wasn't supposed to be there. Not just that it doesn't fit the art style, but it was not built to work with the same systems so was popping up lots of harmless but annoying error warnings. I've rolled the patch back for now, and am working on fixing it up to bring it back online. We'll be in touch again soon!
- Beta v 1.1.1.0 - 19 December 2025
This patch brings in the full capabilities that we've been working on with Solace Builder into Solace Crafting. I still haven't had the chance to check every item, and every feature, but regardless, it's always safer to upload any major changes onto the beta branch and give some of our valiant testers a chance behind the wheel before we push it live.In this build the old building interface is still accessible via the "Building" button on the main inventory screen, whereas pressing the build keybind, the default being 'B', will bring up the new interface. The new interface has instructions on both sides, just like Solace Builder, and newly interactable objects will have their instructions show up just above the hotbars. The instructions above the hotbars are supposed to be positioning themselves better, but that doesn't seem to be working, so I'll get that sorted out by tomorrow. There a…
- Announcing Solace Builder version 0.2 - 14 December 2025
Hello everyone,Fab here!Today marks the release of v0.2 of the Solace Builder demo, which we've prioritized working on over the past few months. It's a considerable update from the initial release in that it contains a lot more function and a lot more content. While the first version focused on the placement mechanics, we have expanded those and given you a lot more assets to work with. Before we go an overview of the changes, let's restate the central role Solace Builder is to play in the Solace experience and how.Solace Builder is a free construction tool within which you are meant to be able to construct not only houses but, ultimately, entire scenes: that will mean both outdoors local landscapes, and indoor structures, such as dungeons and fortresses.Standalone, it is meant to be a cozy micro-world builder.Within the Solace ecosystem, it plays a key role as:- The primary dev/modding…
- Beta patch v 1.1.0.8 - 30 November 2025
Hope everyone had a good week! It seems like Black Friday is a week long event now almost everywhere. It's certainly been a busy week for me!I've uploaded a small patch to the beta branch fixing a rendering error causing floating islands to go invisible. I've got family in town for Thanksgiving for another couple of days, but after that I'll be pushing these changes along with some others to the live branch, bringing live up to date with a variety of under the hood changes and bug fixes.v 1.1.0.8 2025.11.27- Fixed floating islands not rendering properlyWhat You Can Do To HelpIf you wanna push us up, either one of these will support us more than you know - Keep up the kind words on our Steam posts and the Likes - You can get and support the builder here: https://bigkittygames.itch.io/solace-builder- Drop by our IndieDB page to help make it visible: https://www.indiedb.com/games/solace-cr…
- Producer's Letter #7 - 15 November 2025
Hello everyone, and welcome to the seventh Producer’s Letter for Solace Crafting.I’m Fab. Today marks a return to this tradition after a brief pause managing real life and its complexities, such as grief, particularly at the passing of pets. I would personally like to extend my gratitude for your support and kind words as both Kyle and I had to go through such sad affairs, with cats passing.Thank you again for being such a wholesome and warm community. We will primarily focus today’s letter on Solace Builder and also talk about what comes after the current stretch.Let’s get into it.A Quick RecapIn the recent months, Solace Builder has been the primary focus behind the scenes. Now, just to reiterate for clarity, the Builder work is crucial in 4 ways:Strategically, it allows us to rejuvenate BKG a bit without committing to a whole new game, which would mean really leaving SC behind for God…
- Solace Crafting Beta v 1.1.0.7 - 7 October 2025
Important Steam beta branch changes: There are multiple "beta" branches that are accessible to all owners of Solace Crafting. Beta branches are accessible by right-clicking on the game in your Steam Library, clicking Properties, and going to the Beta tab. From there you will have several choices:None - the default "live" branchbeta - for testing the latest Solace Crafting patchessolacekeeper - for testing the latest updates to Solace Keeper This beta patch thus serves three main purposes:1. To separate the development projects of Solace Crafting and Solace Keeper2. To move Solace Keeper to its own beta branch3. To test the latest upgraded version of Solace CraftingThe engine has been upgraded and I went through and fixed a number of new bugs and obvious problems that I ran into, but there are likely to be more. I'm also spinning up the beta server again, with a fresh world, should you b…
- Developer Update - 1 October 2025
Greetings fellow adventurers! Kyle here! The Autumn Sale is upon us! And it's time we've had an update on what's been happening and what's going on. First off, I have to come clean about a few things. I know I mentioned this a bit last month, but I went completely broke a while back and had to take on a full-time job to make ends meet. That has, as planned, been tuned down to a part-time job, that I am going to keep with for at least a few more months to keep my finances afloat but I am now returning as much of my attention as I can to Big Kitty Games. (Quentish Underhill mansions have been sprouting out of the ground lately)Most of you know I live in Japan, though my friends from school and family all live in the US and I wasn't able to visit in 2024 at the end of Summer like I usually do because my wife was very pregnant, so although I pretty much went broke again I was able to visit…
- Small beta patch & life update - 25 August 2025
Small patch for what we're still currently calling the beta branch. We'll have some changes to the way these are being managed very shortly, in part to also start bringing patches back to the live branch of SC.I have to give a little speech about where I've been for the past couple of months, so if you only came for the patch notes, scroll on down. My finances hit the wall a couple months ago, and despite all the great stuff we've got in the pipe, a lot of it really just around the corner, I have to take care of my family first and foremost and had to redirect the majority of my effort into some freelance work to get our heads back above water. We're doing good now, and at the after this week is up I will be toning my side gigs back down to refocus on everything we've got going on in the Solace multiverse! It's also been 37C+ (98F+) for almost 3 months over here!Stay cool, stay safe, and…
- Solace Builder, Solace Crafting, Solace Keeper - 26 July 2025
Hello everyone,Fab here. Not quite a Producer’s Letter but something like it ahead of time.Based on some feedback, comments and conversations between us, we wanted to share a clearer vision of where Solace Crafting is headed. Not just for the beta branch or the upcoming Builder, but for the broader universe we’re building together. We also want to share some new screenshots throughout this post! Prototying designs for Solace Builder Classic Solace Crafting (Live Main Branch)This is the version you know from Steam’s main branch: the original game, still online, shaped by years of development and the passion of veteran players. Classic Solace Crafting embraces an old-school, deep-fantasy RPG spirit and continues to be available for everyone who loves its endless progression and open-ended play. We have no intention to abandon or overwrite it. On the contrary, we want to maintain and impro…
