  Jack King-Spooner’s games are fascinating worlds to explore. Constructs of collage and clay, mixed media and minigames. Dream-like and melancholic tales both small and personal ( Beeswing , Dujanah ) or broadly philosophical as in his strange sci-fi Sluggish Morss series. For his next, he’s aiming a little higher and turning to Kickstarter to fund development of Sluggish Morss: Pattern Circus , an action-adventure set in a strange alien universe, telling the interwoven tales of eight playable characters. • Dujanah review - 2 November 2017

  Dujanah is searching for her family through a fictional Islamic country covered in video static haze. Her husband and daughter went out a week ago to bury the family hamster, but were killed in the middle of nowhere for no reason by one of the country's occupying armies. Dressed in flowing robes and a face-covering niqab, she visits her neighbor Ted to borrow the keys to Duck, his oil-drilling robot, and pilots it out into the desert for answers. Dujanah's search feels like a dream, a series of images linked thematically but not in any consciously sensical manner. The desert is a disorienting moire muddle. Even when riding Duck, with its whimsical biddy-biddy-bah biddy-biddy-bum walking music, it's easy to get the feeling there's nothing out there to find.  The Militarized Zone is zoomed out, making Dujanah tiny compared to the stamped-metal military buildings a…

• Clay-punk fever dream Dujanah rises from the sands - 30 September 2017

  I’ve only played fifteen minutes of Dujanah thus far, and I am still trying to process what I just experienced. Jack-King Spooner (creator of Beeswing and the cheerfully hellish Will You Ever Return series) has always made very strange and experimental, if heartfelt games, but Dujanah is on a whole new level. An open, exploratory world of clay and FMV, sadness and unsettling laugh tracks all filtered through an interface that feels like half overtaxed VHS player, half malfunctioning Commodore 64.
