Two months from today it'll be Christmas Day, which is a terrifying realisation. But merch company iam8bit are hoping they have you covered if there's a big Annapurna fan in your life. They've just announced the Annapurna Interactive Deluxe Limited Edition Collection for the Nintendo Switch, which is such a mouthful that the title alone feels like it justifies a $200 price tag. Yes, the Annapurna Interactive Deluxe Limited Edition Collection for the Nintendo Switch will set you back $200 — equivalent to roughly £165 if you live in the UK, and that's not counting some potentially hefty international shipping fees if you live outside of the USA. Alright, that's not actually out of the ordinary for Limited-Special-Collector's-Ultimate-Editions these days, but I suspect it still feels quite steep to most of us. - JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Hot Wheels coming to PC Game Pass soon - 26 January 2023
After a mysterious delay from December, arcade racing game Hot Wheels Unleashed will finally arrive on PC Game Pass in early February. I hear it's pretty good! It's one of the small handful of games Microsoft have confirmed as coming to PC Game Pass in the next fortnight, which also include the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fighting game and a return to the subscription service for Darkest Dungeon. Microsoft have revealed the next load of games arriving on Xbox Game Pass for PC this month, and I think you Yakuza fans are going to be rather pleased. The Yakuza Remastered collection (containing Yakuzas 3 , 4 and 5 ) will hit the subscription service on January 28th, along with Bloober Team’s brand new horror The Medium . Microsoft has announced the next wave of games coming to Xbox Game Pass. As already announced, Remedy's Control is coming to Xbox Game Pass on PC on 21st January. Instead of rolling everything up into an ever-increasing ball of mess, you’re sucking everything underground until the surface is bare. - Interactive credits sequences make games and their developers more memorable - 2 September 2018
Usually when I finish a game, I like to sit and let its credits run their length. It s a ritual that allows me some time to reflect on the game itself and the hard work of all the people who made it, and generally it s a very nice experience. Except for the time when I spent a full hour watching names scroll by at the end of Far Cry 5 because, wow, a lot of people work at and adjacent to Ubisoft, huh. But there are more interesting ways to showcase developers than a list on the screen, as some recent games demonstrate. (more…)
- Donut County review - a simple, physics-based puzzler that's a hole lot of fun - 31 August 2018
Donut County has a colourful cast of characters - and it doesn't let you play as any of them. Ostensibly you're BK, a trash-loving raccoon who's found himself in a little hot water with his neighbours. But beyond a handful of vignettes in which you hit a button to send text messages and vigorously defend yourself from the angry retorts of the townsfolk, you'll spend most of the playing as a hole. This is The Mechanic , where Alex Wiltshire invites developers to discuss the difficult journeys they ve taken to make their games. This time, Donut County . Donut County is a physics puzzle game in which you are a hole and you make things fall into you. It s a sort of reverse Katamari Damacy, in which you grow larger as you make things disappear rather than gather them up, and it was inspired by a 2012 Peter Molydeux joke . The idea was originally that you d just play as a hole and I thought there s probably some interesting problems there, creator Ben Esposito tells me. I also thought it d be pretty easy. But I was kind of wrong. As he found out, making a game about being a hole gives rise to all kinds of trouble, including game physics hijinks, human nature, and the surprisingly complex philosophy of what holes are . (more…)

Sometimes, you just want to throw everything into a hole. Sometimes, someone makes a game where you can do that. As a raccoon. Ben Esposito (of Arcane Kids fame) has spent the past five years tuning up Donut County, transforming it from a puzzler about reflecting Native American Hopi culture to a puzzler about reflecting a raccoon’s desire to mess with stuff. Annapurna Interactive, the publisher behind the stellar likes of What Remains of Edith Finch, Florence, and Gorogoa, has announced that gloriously off-beat physics puzzler Donut County will be coming to PS4, PC, and iOS on August 28th. Developed by Ben Esposito, Donut Country is openly inspired by Keita Takahashi's classic video game oddity Katamari Damacy, evident in its vibrant low-poly art style and quirky ambience. Instead of attempting to engulf the world by rolling it into a ball however, Donut County casts you as a hole and tasks you with swallowing up everything you can. Donut County is a story-based physics puzzle game about raccoon and a hole in the ground that steals people's trash, and based on that description alone you can probably tell whether or not it's something you want to play. If it is, then you'll be happy to hear that publisher Annapurna Interactive announced today that it will be released to one and all on August 28.  The Steam page explains what Donut County is all about, sort of: "Raccoons have taken over Donut County with remote-controlled trash-stealing holes. Stealing trash is all fun and games until someone loses a town, as Donut County will demonstrate when it at long last launches on August 28th. Greedy racoons with remote-controlled holes are sucking up trash, see, but we get a bit carried away with it and… turns out, trash pandas can be a real force of nature when they’re bored on the toilet fiddling with their iPad.
