  • v2.0 Alpha Now Available - 18 June 2020

Greetings survivors, It's safe to say it's been a long time since Parallax has received any updates. I'm glad to say that after some successful testing of v2.0 I will be releasing the largest update the game has seen since launch today. I won't go into any details here simply because listing every single change from the previous version of the game would literally be a 3000 word essay and nobody wants to read that. If you're a veteran who's been around since the game's launch back in 2018 and you're returning for the first time in a while, the game has changed a lot. For those who are just finding the game now I hope you like what you see. The new map is significantly smaller than the previous one however it's packed with much more to see. Water has been removed from the map entirely and Chimera now exists as a mountainous forested region. Red Shield has been relocated and now provides…

  • IMPORTANT UPDATE NEWS! - 9 June 2020

Hi all, this isn't an actual update post, just some information to let you know that I haven't abandoned the game. Over the past 6 months I've been working towards redesigning the game and releasing v2.0. I'm pleased to say that private testing for v2.0 has just gotten underway and will hopefully lead to a public release within the next week if all goes according to plan. That's all from me for now, thanks for sticking around through the long drought of updates over the past year. That's all about to change for the better in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on Steam for the new update as I'll post an official changelog when it's released.

  • v1.5.3.0 Content and Bugfix Update - 28 January 2020

Greetings survivors, I was going to combine this update with the previous one for a single larger update but I decided to break it up into two sections. This update adds some new content and more bugfixes. The Void joined the game recently in v1.5 but now there's some newer kids on the block. Well not so much 'kids' but more like bloodthirsty, lunatic cultists. Introducing... The Faceless These strange beings have an unknown origin. All that is known is they are closely related to The Shadow, a member of The Red Shield. These faceless creatures are humanoid in appearance, however they seem to be covered in a strange moving substance. They also appear to be wearing some sort of armour and they roam in numbers. Up to 5 in a group have been observed so far. They wear a white mask over their faces and no distinguishable facial features can be made out, hence the name. Definitely watch out f…

  • v1.5.2.0 Improvement and Bugfix Update - 27 January 2020

Greetings survivors, This update is bringing with it some new improvements and bugfixes. Firstly, performance improvements. You should notice some significant increase in your average FPS in the new update. I've taken a large portion of the time since v1.5 released to work on some much needed performance optimisations. There's still plenty of room for improvement on my end, but you should notice a nice little boost to your FPS in general. If you're still getting low FPS, please try turning down the shadow quality via the in-game options menu as shadows are currently the most resource-heavy setting and the default setting is quite high. Now for the new content. Building has been a part of the game for quite some time, and up until now it's been extremely easy to build base parts. This update is now addressing that. You can no longer build any base part for 5 wood. Instead, I've gone thro…

  • Return To Development v1.5.0.0 - 21 January 2020

Welcome To v1.5 Greetings survivors, Well what can I say, it's been a while hasn't it. For those of you who don't know, I've been taking a break from development on Parallax for the last few months. Not to worry though, I'm back and ready to create again. I know I left v1.3.4.0 in quite a buggy state and since its release I've had hundreds of bug reports, so safe to say I had my work cut out for me this update. Due to the fact this update is so huge this change log is going to be a long one but I'll try my best to list absolutely everything that I've done. Without a doubt though, the biggest change is the brand new mutant. I put a vote up a couple of weeks ago on my Discord server asking the community which model I should use for a new mutant and they chose quite decisively. So without further ado, I'd like to introduce... The Void! An absolute behemoth, standing at over 5 meters tall a…

  • v1.3.2.0 Minor Bugfixes and Additions - 23 August 2019

Greetings survivors, This is a minor update consisting of some important bugfixes and a couple of additions. Firstly, the issues regarding mutants spawning have been resolved and along with that, a new mutant has arrived in Chimera threatening survival. Introducing the corruption. This mechanical creature enters and leaves the world through a dimensional portal. Upon nightfall it will open its portal as close as possible to its prey and will slowly emerge and then pursue them. https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F31150480%2F7c6af6ca6a7517aec8333e86e945440252d022ab.png A large flurry of blood particles signals his entrance into the world. If you encounter the corruption, you should attempt to distance yourself as much as possible from it and prepare yourself for a fight. It's also worth noting the corruption is roughly the same size as a player meaning he can…

  • v1.3.1.0 More Fixes and Improvements - 15 August 2019

Greetings survivors, I've got plenty of fixes and improvements to report for this update which I'm sure you'll all be glad about. Fixed issues with building items, some areas would not allow construction Fixed AI hunters to be more accurate and behave correctly, they will only shoot you if you are within range and are not obstructed by something Fixed certain loot containers not spawning any items Safes are now crackable, if you find them you will need to locate the code to open it The safe cracking screen no longer uses Q and E to turn the lock but instead uses UI buttons which makes things much easier Safe cracking mechanic has been improved to be harder and will no longer give hints as to where you need to stop and change the direction you're turning the lock Secret stashes are no longer free-to-loot you will need a key in order to open one Loot spawns for safes, secret stashes and a…

  • v1.3.0.0 Fixes and Improvements - 11 August 2019

Greetings survivors, This update is following after the major changes from v1.1 a few weeks ago. I've had quite a few bug reports which have been confirmed and have now been fixed. I've also improved and added some features back in to the game. Starting with the changes, resources no longer respawn instantly after destroying them (sorry but it's not very realistic). You can now skip NPC dialogue with the 'ENTER' key if you're sick of hearing them rabbit on about everything. If you complete crazy Ted's quest and find his knife you can now use it before you give it back to him, it's rather overpowered. Vehicles will no longer operate underwater meaning if you drown the engine, you'll have to ditch it and find a new one. This is for all vehicles currently in the game. I also moved the horn function for vehicles to the 'LEFT CTRL' button instead of left click which is used by the guns on th…

  • v1.1.0.0 Major Game Update - 23 July 2019

Greetings survivors, It's been a while, I know. I have been working on some new projects over the past few months following the release of v1.0 and will be revealing them soon in the official Discord server for Parallax. If you're interested in that and have not joined already, please do so as it will become the HUB for all my future games for now. Anyway, if you're just here for the Parallax news, then yeah, there's a big update. I've improved several in-game mechanics and fixed a huge number of bugs since v1.0. You will notice some changes to the UI and the entire loot system has been re-worked to a much more efficient spawning system. It is no longer required to venture into the far north as all loot is now based purely on RNG (random number generation) instead of pre-defined loot rarity levels. Some items are very common and others equally rare. You will likely notice an overall inc…

  • v1.0.0.0 Biggest Update Since Launch - 22 February 2019

Greetings survivors, It's been a long time coming, but finally we are now transitioning from pre-alpha and into regular old alpha. I thought lining this transition up with the release of v1.0 would fit quite nicely. This is going to be a VERY long patch notes post due to the large amount of new content coming to the game. The first and most significant change to the game is the addition of The Red Shield. A small group of survivors who have banded together to form a sort of safe haven for anyone wishing to join their cause. Their base of operations is a large raft-like structure sitting in the middle of the Chimera river system just north of Princeton, near Monica Island. There are plenty of survivors to get to know personally and interact with. You'll start as a scav and can work your way up the ranks by completing various quests which will become available from different people as you…

  • v0.9.9.0 Content Update - 20 January 2019

Greetings survivors, I've been busily working on a bit of new content in the lead up to v1.0. The following week I will mainly be working on bugfixes so this is the last bit of content before the big 1.0 update. The additions include a new location on Chimera called Old Iron Lookout which can be found in the extreme north near Drosden military base. It is in a tier 5 loot position which means you can score the best loot there. It's also called Old Iron for a reason, the new spot sits atop a tall hill covered in exposed rocks containing iron ore. It is now the largest deposit of iron in Chimera and will provide an almost endless supply if you can survive long enough to mine it all. https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F31150480%2F213ad40b97d33ad075fd18430ed8599f9375071b.png I have also re-worked the loot tables for the entire map. Previously, high tier loot had…

  • v0.9.8.5 Minor Update - 19 January 2019

Greetings survivors, This update is a relatively small one addressing a few issues and adding a couple new things. Bullet tracers now show after you shoot which allow you to better visualise gunshots and their trajectories. The other new addition is weapon stats which show in the inventory when you hover over a weapon. The stats currently include damage, accuracy, recoil and range. You can now easily compare various weapons to eachother as you please. Additions Added bullet tracers Added weapon stats (damage, accuracy, recoil and range) Fixes Fixed an issue with the grim killing you rather than taking you to the pocket dimension Fixed an issue with certain items spawning below objects making them unreachable Fixed an issue with mutants not spawning sometimes

  • v0.9.8.0 Major Content Update! - 12 January 2019

Greetings survivors, The main update for this week is indeed massive. New clothing items, new graphical elements and a brand new mutant which is vastly different than any current ones in the game. Before I get into the details of what's new, I'd like to take a moment to officially recognise the 1 year anniversary since the games initial launch on Steam. I think we can all agree, the game has changed A LOT since January 1st of 2018 when you saw it for the first time. In the short period of just 1 year I've taken in a huge amount of criticisms and suggestions from the players, some who've come and gone and some who've stuck around to see where the game has got to. There's still a long way to go, but I think in time, I'll be able to get there with the support of you guys. So, thanks to everyone who's played and got in contact with me about the game, it's really made all the difference in g…

  • v0.9.7.5 Content/Bugfix Update - 7 January 2019

Greetings survivors, This weeks update is coming early with some much needed improvements and fixes. First off, swimming animations have had an upgrade which has also fixed some finger position issues. All animals now have unique realistic sounds instead of the default wolf sounds. Weaponry spawned in containers and from killing mutants will now have randomised conditions and not always be destroyed. You can move up and down in water using the spacebar and c keys respectively. Torches have also been added which can be crafted using wood and cloth, then they can be lit and held for light, warmth or to warn other predators to stay back. World settings should also be working now which will allow you to customise various things upon starting a new game. Additions Added wooden torches (ID 278) Added vertical movement in water Dust effects appear at players feet when moving Water splash effec…

  • v0.9.7.0 Content/Bugfix Update - 4 January 2019

Greetings survivors, I hope you enjoyed the festive celebrations during Christmas, however unfortunately they have now come to end in Chimera. Things have gone back to normal, green grass and clear blue skies. This weeks update is a big one including some huge improvements, additions and fixes. Multiplayer vehicles have been fixed to allow them to be driven without causing collision issues. Likewise skins have also been fixed when displaying them in a multiplayer game. Stats are also now being tracked in multiplayer and VoIP has just been added. VoIP allows voice communication with other people in your server. To talk, hold down the leftALT key and a speaker icon will appear in the bottom left of your screen. Then just start speaking into a connected microphone and anyone on the server will be able to hear you. Currently there is no attenuation to the VoIP input so anyone across the ent…

  • v0.9.6.0 Christmas Update - 25 December 2018

Merry Christmas everyone! This update is coming a little later than I had hoped for, but still just in time for Christmas day for some of you. I hope you're having an enjoyable holiday and can enjoy some snowy survival as well. An unexpected blizzard has blown in across certain regions of Chimera just in time for winter festivities. Although the Reaper doesn't particularly like it, I'm sure it won't slow him down from getting to you. During the festive week (25th - 31st December) you will be able to find Christmas trees around Chimera, they are easily identifiable by their various glowing ornaments as seen below. https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F31150480%2Fa1fb852d0f14f1777b90d89a95a86509a12290bd.png At the base of each tree you might find a few presents left behind by Santa if you're lucky enough. Nobody knows what's inside and there's no names on the wr…

  • v0.9.5.5 Bugfix/Content Update - 22 December 2018

Greetings survivors, Apologies for the lack of updates in the last couple of weeks. I've been tweaking the new dedicated servers mostly however this weeks update has some in-game bugfixes and some new content. The main addition is AI hunters which replace the previous AI survivors which would just run around harmlessly and provide loot if you killed them. Now, hunters will put up a fight. If you are spotted and the hunter has a weapon they will shoot and attempt to kill you. However if you are able to take them out, vastly improved loot is provided. AI survivors are still around and are 100% harmless, however each survivor has a 50/50 chance to be a hunter or not. Look to see if they are holding a weapon, if so, they are a hunter and you should be careful getting too close. If you are eligible for one of the new special skins added in this update, the next time you log in you will be pr…

  • v0.9.5.0 Major Server Fixes - 11 December 2018

Greetings survivors, This week has been spent refining the multiplayer experience and fixing some server issues. If you haven't already, go check out the new dedicated servers which are running and available for everyone. There isn't much else to report this week I'm afraid, but stay tuned for some new content this week. What's new? Fixed a bug causing number of players on server not to show correctly in server browser Added ability to put a password on your server to stop random people joining Added ability to assign a custom key for your server to have it displayed differently in the server browser Fixed a bug causing you to be unable to join servers if the ping is higher than 300ms

  • v0.9.4.0 DEDICATED SERVERS ARE HERE! - 30 November 2018

Greetings survivors, It's been quite a busy week, well for me at least. Ever since launch I've been wanting and really needing to deploy some official dedicated servers to allow for largescale permanent multiplayer gameplay. Well, finally, I'm glad to be able to say the servers are live! It's been an unbelievable pain to get it all working, but the hard work has paid off. From the multiplayer server browser in-game you should now see a single official server up 24/7 (or as close to 24/7 as possible). I will be expanding this to a few more in the coming week depending on how heavy the load on the first server is. The servers will be down for maintenance periodically (mainly before a major update is released) but other than that they should be available at all times. Your player data will be saved serverside so theres no need to worry about that. As for content and bugfixes this week, I'm…

  • v0.9.3.0 Graphical Update #45 - 24 November 2018

Greetings survivors, Update v0.9.3.0 is bringing with it some drastic changes to game graphics along with some major new additions. Most noticable will be the new foliage and ground textures. All new 4K textures have been added to all the new foliage and ground materials. Grass has also been massively improved as you will see. I've improved the LOD's for several onjects in the game as well so you should notice foliage rendering further away with little to no additional performance impact. Now down to the additions. Since the games initial launch I have wanted to implement a better character model as it has been a suggestion right from the start by many players. Well, I've finally done it. The poorly testured, old bearded barbarian man in underwear, bracers and boots is no longer around. He's hit the road for good. Sorry if you liked the old player model, but I'm certain you'll like the…
