- Unknown Pleasures: A five-course menu of great new games - 30 April 2018
You’re lucky, readers. It’s an optimistic time of year, even for sour-faced mopes like myself, and I damn nearly opened with some lyrics. What can I say? The sun is singing, the birds are shining, and the latest selection of Unknown Pleasures is a zingy blend of drama, carefree fun, and creativity. I for one am feeling inspired. Fooling us into thinking Summer won’t be repulsively hot, itchy and sticky this week: cowboy revenge, underground art, and bisexual pride. (more…)
- Vandals is like turn-based Hitman with graffiti instead of murder - 27 April 2018
Vandals puts a modern, non-violent twist on isometric strategy: instead of a pilot smashing mechs or an elite soldier shooting aliens, you're a hoodied youth stealthily tagging streets and alleys with graffiti. It's set in street art hot spots from all over the world, but your plan of attack never changes: outfox the cops, leave your mark, and make a clean getaway. Vandals is a short, snacky game, but there's enough to it for only $5 . It's a cool mix of stealth and strategy, and a lot tougher than it sounds.  You start by coming up with a short word to use as a signature, something to mark your art as yours. I went with "Tag" because I am nothing if not original. If you're only in it for the strategy, you can just auto-paint your signature word every time and call it a day, but you can also customize your signature or create freeform works using simple but…
- Vandals is like Hitman Go with artier crime - 12 April 2018
If you fancy turn-based stealth puzzling in the style of Hitman Go with a more-artistic crime, have a gander at Vandals . Released today, it does Hitman Go-style sneaking but with the goal of spraying graffiti on city walls rather than garroting goombahs. You can even paint your own art in MS Paint-y spraying. It has a free demo too, so you can safely try a life of minor crime. (more…)
- Infiltrate cities and spray graffiti in turn-based stealth game Vandals - 3 April 2018
Vandals has one of the coolest elevator pitches I've ever heard: turn-based stealth graffiti. Rather than a secret agent infiltrating underground bases in search of top-secret intel, you're an agent of expression infiltrating cities like Paris and Tokyo in search of sweet canvases to tag.  Developer Cosmografik says Vandals has 60 levels set in five cities: Paris, Tokyo, São Paulo, Berlin and New York. Sneak through their curiously well-guarded streets and alleys, elude the Man (after memorizing the Man's patrol routes), paint your graffiti, and get out. Vandals' sharp, minimalist art looks like a graphic novel, but the actual graffiti draws on the works of several street artists. "With Vandals, you can bomb your alias on the walls of New York like Lady Pink, paint childlike characters like Keith Haring, or get inspired by the poems of Miss.Tic and write yo…
- Vandals looks like Hitman Go with grafitti - 29 March 2018
Take the turn-based stealth puzzling of Hitman Go , replace the murder with a crime that’s slightly more socially acceptable, and you might have a game a bit like Vandals. Out in April, it’s a turn-based sneak-o-puzzler about dodging The Man to spray graffitti on city walls. Watch for police patrols, dodge guard dogs, duck cameras, hurl bottles to create distractions, and leave your mark upon the world. The proof will be in the puzzling but, after the watching the announcement trailer, I am tentatively up for this sneaky spraying. (more…)
