- Fishery Build 92 is live! - 25 June 2026
Hello everyone,A new build has just been uploaded to steam that includes some new decorations.Four industrial looking rusted pipes and a set of dentures. The dentures are a little strange but I am sure some players will find them to be a lovely addition to their aquariums. There were also a few small bugs fixed. The time it takes for powered objects to break due to maintenance has also been lengthened.More decorative items, bug fixes, and feature tweaks will be coming soon in the next update as long as my PC does not combust due to this heatwave. We wish you all a good weekend and a great Summer Sale. The Fishery Team.
- Fishery Build 91 is live! - 5 June 2026
Hello everyone,Small update this week. There is a new decoration added to the game. An aged olde style wooden barrel. This was actually quite an intricate little model that was very fiddly to make and paint in the game's art style but I think it turned out quite nice. It can really tie an aquarium together, so to speak, and animals can use it as a hidey hole.Next update with new art content will come soon. We hope you all have a lovely weekend! The Fishery Team.
- Bugfix Patch 90.0.1 - 20 May 2026
- Hopefully fixed a somewhat rare bug with text input.
- Fishery Build 90 is live! - 18 May 2026
Hello everyone! We bring you a nice little update to start off the week. A classical aquarium decoration!A submarine wreck! These types of decorations always create a really nice atmosphere in real life aquariums and now players can add them to their virtual ones. We have been wanting to add more decorations like this for a long time but always something else had to take priority. However now we can focus on adding more cool items like this, so expect more interesting decorations to come into the game soon. Here is how it looks in a tank with a bit more life. There were also a handful of code bugs fixed in this update too.We wish you all a very nice start to the week! The Fishery Team.
- Fishery Build 89 is live! - 1 May 2026
Hello everyone,Another new build of the game has been uploaded to steam. Actually quite a few builds have been uploaded in the past few weeks. A lot of them fixed some very tricky and rare bugs that were causing issues for a small selection of players. There were also several small tweaks to some features that players asked for, such as changes to the sandbox settings which allow the game to run without needing any intervention to keep the aquariums happy and healthy. More art content has been added. Not as much as I had hoped but I don't want to get back into the habit of delaying builds so I can stuff them with more things. I did that before and it meant players would wait months for new stuff. That means that for a while I'll be aiming to add more art content every 1-3 weeks now that my finger is all better again. The big part of this update is that the first of the deep ocean items h…
- Fishery Build 88 is live! - 7 April 2026
Hello everyone!Sorry for the delay for this update. I had a kitchen accident and I had to get some stitches. I have only been able to use one hand so I have focused on fixing code bugs instead of doing art content (I need 2 hands to make new fish). My injury is slowly getting better and I'll be able to get some good art content into April's update. Some bugs were fixed that players pointed out to us. Light colours not correctly being loaded after being customized by players. live bearing fish only produced female offspring. There were also a lot changes made to some code that appears to cause problems for only a few players in specific situations.A more recent version of the unity engine is now being used. This might help fix some errors that we don't have control over such as problems with the unity engine itself. It also allows us to use a more recent version of their error reporting t…
- Fishery Build 87 is live! - 26 February 2026
Hello everyone! Our latest build is on steam and available for all of you play. It consists entirely of new guppies.Upper Sword Tail:Spear Tail:Spade Tail:Fan Tail:Double Sword Tail:Delta Tail:Lower Sword Tail:We can cross guppies off of our to-do for the rest of the early access period.March's update will also contain new art content too, but it will be more varied. There will be some new decorative items, food, utilities etc. We will probably focus on art content for a while since a lot of time over the past year has been spent on the user interface and other technical aspects of the game. There will of course be some code tweaks here and there and of course bug fixes. We wish you all a very good end to the week. The Fishery Team
- PatchFixes 20260209 - 9 February 2026
Daphnia now breed properly.
- Fishery Build 86 is live! - 30 January 2026
Hello Everyone!Build 86 is live and it fixes some major issues with the water chemistry system. The biggest issue that has been fixed is the chaotic nature of the water chemistry. It was too reactive and most aquariums needed a lot player intervention in order to stay healthy. It was also not very fun to play. This has now been changed and everything is a lot less chaotic and more predictable. Players should now be able to add fish, plants, food, etc into their aquariums without everything going badly soon thereafter. The numbers will of course be tweaked in every update until it is as close to perfect as possible, but from now on it should be a lot less frustrating to play.More subcategory tags have been introduced back into the shop ui and the way that tags filter items has been changed to produce better results. The item duplicator has been added back into the game. It's icon can be f…
- Fishery Build 85 is live! - 24 October 2025
Hello everyone!Build 85 is uploaded. It is another small update. It fixes a bug where some male tetras and male guppies never get become fertile enough to breed. This update also enables specific species of fish to give birth to live young instead of laying eggs. All mollies, platies, and guppies in the game have this ability.More updates are coming soon. I'll be back on the forums to answer all the comments soon too.We wish you all a very good weekend. The Fishery Team
- Fishery Build 84 is live! - 16 October 2025
Hello everyone! This week's update includes build 84.It is smaller than the previous update but stress responses are now back in the game. The puffer fish now inflate as they become more stressed. In future updates stress responses will vary among all species and in some instances might create an interesting outcome that players may find useful. For example stress certain plants so they release fertility hormones into the water and increase the speed at which fish breed and the number of their offspring per breeding event. There were also some fixes to the fish shaders. There were quite a few unnecessary calculations that were happening per pixel. There were also some bits of code that computed fish iridescence incorrectly. These are now fixed.More updates are coming soon!We wish you all a very good end of the week! The Fishery Team
- Fishery Build 83 is live! - 10 October 2025
Hello everyoneBuild 83 is finally on steam!I won't go into too much detail and list all of the changes again here because they have been talked about in all previous news posts for the last couple of years, and those posts are much more detailed. However the most noticeable changes are the new user interface design and the support of many new languages. Those two features required so much work to get finished.Almost every part of the game has been changed in some way. 90% of the code has been changed, hopefully for the better. There is still a vast amount of work left to do in order to finish this game. Build 83 is just the start of us getting back on track with it.More updates will follow soon but probably not next week because I have to rest a bit. It took 3 weeks of 12 hour work days to get this build player ready and tested. The water chemistry system is back in the game and it is wo…
- development update #132 - 1 August 2025
Hello everyone,It has been a little while since the last post. I had to take a break to recharge and focus on some other things, and it did me some good because I have been getting lots of things off of the to-do list since returning to Fishery. There has been a lot of focus on food.Daphnia has been added. Though these are a little bigger than real life daphnia. These are a food item that your fish will eat. They can also breed and be placed in storage, which means players could have a dedicated daphnia breeding tank which, if maintained well, will produce endless food for player's fish.Tubifex worms have been added. They are disgusting but fish love them. These are a placeable food item that players will place in their aquariums and they will be there until they are eaten. Small note: their animation is currently controlled by sin-waves but it looks a little too regular and repeating so…
- development update #131 - 16 May 2025
Hello everyone, Here is some more progress for you all to see. Maintenance visualized: I spoke about the maintenance feature for utility devices a few updates ago. The shaders have been tweaked to visualize this feature. Once a device is placed into an aquarium and time passes, the appearance of the device will become more dirty looking as it's maintenance value creeps higher. Players will know when a device is nearing it's breaking point because it will look filthy. Once maintenance is then performed by the player it will be nice and clean and fully functioning again. Plumbing-like power generator prototype: Back: Front: A prototype has been made of the new "plumbing-like" objects that are being added to the game. This one is the power generator. Devices like these sit on the glass but are mostly outside of the aquarium itself. This one generates more power so other powered devices wor…
- development update #130 - 25 April 2025
Hello Everyone, This week a lot of work has been done on finalizing all of the aquariums that will be in the game for the rest of the early access period. There are now 30 aquariums of various shapes and sizes that will be available in the next update. I spoke in a previous news post about adding the initial small cylindrical and spherical aquariums. This week the remaining 10 aquariums were added. Time was also spent refining how "squishing" features work for the spherical and cylindrical aquariums. The code that actually performs the squishing should run faster than before. Though before it was not exactly slow but I like to squeeze as much performance as possible out of everything. The "Squishing" features are what makes plants, rocks, and other decorations squish up against the glass even when players move part of these objects outside of the glass, making it so none of these object…
- development update #129 - 16 April 2025
Hello everyone, This is just a quick news update showing off some of the newer art content that is being made as we move towards the new build update. Sailfin Mollies Painted (they are not proportionally scaled in this image) The Sailfin mollies models I showed in the last update have been painted. They are quite intricate little things but very pretty indeed. Red Onion Nerite Snail Olive / Tiger eye Nerite Snail - (Probably going to be tweaked some more) Two more variations of Nerite snail have been painted to accompany the Zebra Nerite Snails currently in the game. The next snails that will be added to the game will be a completely different model. Something like a Ramshorn snail would be nice I think. Camera Lens Settings Some changes have been made to the camera lens settings. I found the old depth of field settings to be a bit frustrating to use and I was not happy with the result…
- development update #128 - 5 April 2025
Hello everyone Once again this a news only update because I was unable to get the new build of the game ready to play in time for the end of March. This has happened again for all of the usual reasons. Adding, modifying, refining, and remaking parts of the game ends up taking longer than I had hoped. They take longer to work on but the result is better than expected most of the time. Which then drives me to do the same to other features and I get onto a bit of a roll with things and before I know it I'm behind in the schedule but ahead in what I had expected the result would be. Things sort of snowball from there. I/we, (My colleague at Lilou studio and I) are really feeling good about how development is going now. Real progress was somewhat slow and with a fair bit of friction before now. For example when it comes to water chemistry in the game we made a lot of updates previously but w…
- development update #127 - 20 December 2024
Hello everyone, My goodness it has been a busy year, and I think a bit of a disappointing one in terms of progress with Fishery. I was really hoping to be able to get the next big update out before this year's end but a lot of real life things got in the way. This year I moved apartment, moved country, and got married. Usually these kinds of things are straight forward but I am a British citizen moving from Switzerland to the a country in the European Union. Due to a change in relationship between Britain and Europe in the previous few years it means that a whole lot more paperwork is required to get these sorts of things done and it meant dealing with multiple bureaucracies in three separate countries. To put things in perspective I think I have dealt with more paperwork in this single year than of all of my previous years combined. And I'm 37 years old. Not that I am really complainin…
- development update #126 - 24 September 2024
Hello everyone, As mentioned at the end of the previous post we have been remaking the game's user interface. Here is a look at what we have so far. We are moving away from the neutral mono-coloured UI design in favour of something much more colourful, friendly, inviting, and fun. The icon designs are going from flat/silhouette designs to more colourful literal depictions of the things they represent. This is a more classical approach to doing it and this visual style is intended to make things feel more like a fun game and less like a piece of software. The other menu designs that are found throughout the game are still being worked on and they will be shown in a later update post. 46 icons have been made so far and there are perhaps another 18 more to still be made. The icons in the bottom left of the screen all have their own little sub-menus of icons that appear when they are clicke…
- development update #125 - 26 July 2024
Hello everyone, I thought I would give all of you an update on the game's progress since the last progress update. Substrate painting: The way that players apply different materials to their substrates has changed. The version currently in the game uses some spherical volumes to apply the second substrate material to the substrate. It was an interesting way to do it at the time but since then we have found that adding lots of these volumes can increase the amount of calculations needed for the overall effect quite a lot. It is also not great at creating slightly more detailed patterns quickly. Overall it is a bit fiddly and potentially slow if players have lots of these substrate volumes. We have changed it to a simple brush based system where players just use their mouse to draw onto the substrate. It is nice and simple and requires a lot less gpu instructions to process during renderi…
