- Update 28 - 26 May 2025
Version: FoxtrotHotelWhiskyFootfungus Today I fixed some long standing bugs. Submarine attacks were not appearing in replays, so I fixed that. FINALLY I figured out why destroyers made no sound during their attack animation. So, the sound event was supposed to be triggered on the first frame of the attack animation, but when I looked at the transition between the idle state and attacking state, if you zoomed in to microscopic levels, it looks like the idle state overlapped the attacking state by one frame, overwriting the event that was supposed to play the sound. Can't see it unless you zoom all the way in the Unity editor. The steam version is not supposed to have buttons for ammo, that's a mobile thing only. On steam we do not need ammo for multiplayer. There was a bug in the bug reporter when a specific bug happened, so I fixed the original bug and then the bug in the bug. Bugs are…
- Update 27 - 2 May 2025
Version: CharlieEchoTangleGoospimple I just released Forward Line on the app store! Seems to play really well on an ipad. Anyway that process uncovered some bugs that needed to be fixed here on Steam as well. Now that Forward Line is on both major mobile platforms, a steam user can use those also to get messages about new tournaments that are posted etc. In fact in tournament mode, you can play your turn on any platform interchangeably. The Steam version includes all the premium content plus unlimited tournament access, while the mobile apps are free with optional ads, plus a premium price on the 'Stormbound' expansion. On mobile, tournament access is granted through purchase or by watching rewarded ads.
- Update 26 - 22 August 2024
Version: DeltaFoxtrotQuebecPickles I extended the timers for tournament play. Players were getting squeezed out a little too quickly making tournaments difficult to complete naturally without someone running out of time. The initial timer for a tournament game is now 48 hours, truce time is 48 hours, and the minimum turn time has been bumped from 30 minutes to 8 hours. So if your opponent takes his turn right after you go to bed, you can get a decent nights sleep before you have to respond.
- Update 25 - 11 August 2024
Version: AlfaCharlieNovemberBeefaholic Removed the Replay Button when it's not your turn. It wasn't designed for that and it would cause crashes. That's not the end of replay problems but it should help.
- Update 24 - 14 May 2024
Version: BravoDeltaOscarGoosepimple Fixed a couple of bugs, including a replay crash. Replays have been tough for me, so there might be more problems with it but one of the bugs is fixed.
- Update 23 - 8 May 2024
BravoDeltaOscarCollegeboy Added an Ω to the default 'General Changethis' default profile name, so that they sort after Z. This way people who come up with their own names get some higher standing. My apologies to anyone who's character name is written in Greek, because this probably won't work for you. Fixed a problem with the tournament list Fixed my bug reporting system, now I'm buried in bugs again. Added a day slot to the turn timer, in case we want timers longer than 24 hours in the future.
- Update 22 - 2 April 2024
Version: AlfaCharlieNovemberPuppies Fixed a possible tournament cheat. Expanded notifications for the android version to include tournament postings.
- Patch Notes 21 - 7 March 2024
Version: CharlieEchoOscarBeefaholic Had some serious bugs with the tournament system. I'm too embarrassed to talk about it.
- Update 20 - 2 March 2024
Version: CharlieEchoOscarWiddershins Just a little hotfix for notifications.
- Tournament Mode is live! - 25 February 2024
Update 19 version: EchoGolfQuebecHoosegow Tournament Mode Playing against the AI in single player mode is good for learning Forward Line, but for a greater challenge, Forward Line now has a tournament system where players all over the world can compete against each other for bragging rights. Forward Line is best enjoyed with a human opponent, and it really becomes a totally different, emotional experience. Signing up To begin your military career in Forward Line, you will be asked to create an account to track your progress. You will need an email address and and choose a password. Then you will have to verify your email address before logging in to your profile screen for the first time. You wouldn’t want to create a battle history on an email addy you don’t control, so verifying is necessary. Just click the link in the email you get from Forward Line. Create your profile The first tas…
- Forward Line - Tournament Mode! - 12 March 2023
It's been a very long time since the last update! I will try to explain my long absence. It was clear early on that Forward Line is at it's heart a competitive two player game. I worked hard to make multiplayer possible, but finding an opponent is difficult. The game needs to bring people together who want to play. However, the scope of such a project was daunting, and I had absolutely no idea how to make such a thing happen, so I had to go and learn every little thing. Here we are years later and I have this to show for it. As this is my first foray into cloud computing, it's probably riddled with bugs but I pray that what I'm trying to do here is feasible and will eventually work! The first thing you'll want to do when you enter the tournament area is to create an account. It is all based on email and password. Once you have your account, you'll want to make your general that will rep…
- Patch Notes 18 - 5 July 2020
Version: DeltaFoxtrotGolfCollegeboy Added a replay feature that will be useful once multiplayer goes asynchronous. Added a frequently requested feature to refuse the enemy's surrender! I struggled with this one philosophically, but I found a solution in keeping with the game's ethos.
- Patch Notes 17 - 15 May 2020
Version CharlieEchoEchoSnorington: Fixed a bug that didn't allow a multiplayer game without bad weather.
- Patch Notes 16 - 12 March 2020
Version: FoxtrotHotelHotelSnorington Fixed a few bugs. There were protests from the Android folks about ships crossing land, so I now draw little channels to help explain how such a thing could happen. The rules are exactly the same, hopefully this cosmetic change will help those rules be accepted by more people.
- Patch Notes 15 - 13 February 2020
Version: EchoGolfFoxtrotFootfungus Fixed a few Stormbound bugs, and also added a bug reporter! If a bug happens, a window should pop up asking if you want to send a bug report. This will send the log file and the autosave file right to [email protected].
- Patch Notes 14 - 2 February 2020
Version: BravoDeltaBravoRabbitsnacks This ground breaking version fixes a single bug. Let me know how many bugs it adds.
- Patch Notes 13 - 19 January 2020
Version: EchoGolfEchoHoosegow Just fixed a few bugs. Let me know if you find more.
- Stormbound - 5 January 2020
"Stormbound" is an optional new rule expansion for Forward Line. Intended for advanced players, bad weather appears on the map adding another dimension of challenge and opportunity. For Steam users, this expansion is free and comes with the game! When you feel ready, just check the little box in the game settings to turn on the bad weather option. Patch Notes 12 Version: BravoCharlieAlfaWiddershins Release the 'Stormbound' rule expansion. Made little bubbles where a ship goes down. These will last until your next turn. This should make it a tad easier to find those pesky submarines. Made the 'tile blocked' indicator easier to see for people who can't see red well.
- Patch Notes 11 - 4 October 2019
Version Update: EchoFoxtrotCharlieSnorington My new debugging tool was great, and color coded the map according to the supply mass IDs. I found out that when a supply unit moved, it could orphan large swaths of an old supply mass. These orphaned entries could make the AI think that a particular air drop was a valid move when it wasn't, and it would crash the game. Hopefully this will be the last version before the rule expansion that I'm planning comes out. However, if you find another bug, please let me know.
- Patch Notes 10 - 30 September 2019
Version Update: DeltaEchoBravoBaconflavor Just fixed a bug that prevent the latest achievement from firing. If you missed out because of that, I. Am. So. Sorry. If you still have the save, you can finish it up again and get the achievement. There is another bug floating around regarding the new AI system, but I am probably going to need to make some new debugging tools to get a better sense of what's going on. Basically the AI tries to cheat and crashes the game in some instances. I will have a fix fairly soon I expect. If you have this going on in your game, you might be able to save the game while the AI's turn is going, and when loading it again things might be fixed.
