- Robot Rumble 2 - Weightfix hits stable - 1 September 2026
Roboteers, stand by!As promised in the last Major Update post the Weightfix update has now been moved to the Stable channel, making it the default build of the game going forward. Sorry it has taken a little while longer than a month to come in to fruition! For those who are new or who haven't been keeping up with the progress on Weightfix update please take sometime to read through the previous Major Update post for the full story and more information on what this update includes.Work on our next Major Update is continuing in earnest and we cannot wait to share more in the future. Dev Diaries may slow down for a little bit as the work we are doing at the moment is a lot of boring frameworking with not much exciting player-facing content to show off, however when we have something cool and new to show off you can be sure we will let you all know. Many thanks to all of you continuing to be…
- Robot Rumble 2 - Dev Diary: Prisma! - 21 April 2026
Roboteers, stand by!Hey all! Prisma here writing this month's dev diary! In this post I plan on talking about my contributions to the last update as well as what it means for future updates!Sparks fly as Flag? and a rebuilt Cheesus recoil from a weapon-to weapon hit in the NYD 5 arena. Both robots built by Prisma and the NYD 5 arena made by fellow developer Liam.Mac BugfixesSo it all started when someone in Discord asked where the game folder was on Mac. I was confused because I had implemented the "Open Game Folder" button on the main menu. However, it turns out the way I implemented it doesn't work on Macs! I realized it'd be easier to fix if I had my own Mac since none of the other devs had Macs. $300 later, and I bought this silly guy.A late 2013 Mac Pro with an RR2 Sticker covering the Apple logo. With this Mac, I was able to fix the Open Game Folder buttons across the game to work…

This update is a real game-changer as it introduces the much anticipated Weightfix to the game, alongside a whole heap of new featues! A full changelog is available at the end of this post, and it's a long one so be sure to get comfy before settling down to read it!Death Heaven sends Built Like a Tank flying! Both bots built by @0iqdude from the RR2 Discord. Ro-Bots community arena built by our very own Liam. What is Weightfix, and what took so long?Whilst we have talked about the upcoming Weightfix - back then still referred to as the Scaling Bug Fix - in this Dev Diary when we first started working on fixing it all the way back in June, I thought I should give a quick refresher on what exactly the Weightfix is, and a bit of history on why this took so long to come out.Since the beginning RR2 has been pla…
- Robot Rumble 2 - Dev Diary: kupa_! - 3 March 2026
Roboteers, stand by!Hi all, kupa_ here, one of the developers for Robot Rumble 2. Today I’d like to talk a bit more about the next Major Update for RR2, as well as what’s coming next in terms of smaller updates. Parts and sparks fly as Kikai no Tsubasa meets Test Subject 03 in the Ro-Bots Community Arena! Both bots made by @0iqdude from the RR2 Discord, and the arena by our very own Liam.Progress on the next major update! We are happy to report that progress is going well! With Danielle joining the team a big focus has been placed on optimisation and refactoring some of the very old code that is still lurking around from the earliest prototypes of the game, which should help improve performance by a bit. We are also looking in to upgrading the version of Unity we are using which will unlock the potential for even more improvements down the line.Work on the all new original OST is also c…
- Robot Rumble 2 - Dev Diary: Liam - Arenas, Arenas, Arenas! - 27 January 2026
Roboteers, stand by!Guess who's back? It's the goose on the loose!Like the title says we are talking about arenas but what are we talking about?Well drum roll please 🥁🥁🥁We have updated 3 of the default arenas! The UK arena, US arena and Eye Of The Storm (King Of The Hill) arena have been remade and redesigned!Kupa messaged me one day thinking about updating the arenas and it turns out we had the same brain cell. Few days later we had worked out the designs for me to work from and my gaggle of geese have been working hard on them since! So let's get down to the 411!UK ARENA:The UK arena has changed from it's previous incarnation. The floor space is bigger for that all important combat, going from 10m x 10m to 15m x 15m. The walls are much higher so instant elimination OOTAs are much much harder. And of course what is a UK arena without the signature floor flipper which has increased in…
- Robot Rumble 2 - Dev Diary: Danielle! - 6 January 2026
Roboteers, stand by!Hey, hi, hello everybody! It is I, the newest (and probably the worst) addition to the dev team, Danielle! App developer by day, game developer by night (when I’m not stuck playing games myself!) I joined the dev team about two months ago as a UX/UI programmer and designer. But I’ve taken it upon myself to do a whole lot more than that! I’m super excited to work on Robot Rumble 2!A mighty blow from Erebus dislodges the terrifying disk of Big Disk Energy in the community BH4 arena! Bots built by @ranking and @dundiddlydoo, and the arena by @cutiepatootie in the RR2 Discord! What am I going to bring to the table?Like I said, I got onboard as a UX/UI programmer, but I’ve taken it upon myself to do a little more than just that. As you’ve probably noticed while playing the game, there’s… some funny but also questionable interactions going on in the game. Without getting in…
- Robot Rumble 2 - Dev Diary: kupa_! - 2 September 2025
Roboteers, stand by! Hi all, kupa_ here, one of the developers for Robot Rumble 2 back with another Dev Diary for you. Today I want to talk a little more about what the plan is for the next Major Update. We know a lot of you are excited to play with all the new toys and features, and we cannot wait to see what you create with them once the update drops. Progress has been steady, so let's get on with the show!Rosethorn takes a bite out of Heavens Time in the Rampified community arena! Both bots built by @jerrie11, and the arena by @cutiepatootie in the RR2 Discord!Progress on the next major update! As mentioned in the last Dev Diary the next Major Update for RR2 is a big one, and we are functionally treating this as an opportunity to soft relaunch the game with the knowledge we have gained from the original release of the game in terms of what was missing and what could be improved going…
- Robot Rumble 2 - Dev Diary: kupa_! - 1 July 2025
Roboteers, stand by! Hi all, kupa_ here, one of the developers for Robot Rumble 2! Firstly, a quick apology for missing last months Dev Diary. The team has been hard at work on some major new features and the month just ended up flying by! What has the team been working on, I (don't) hear you ask? Well read on and find out! The Golden fires Crumble Tumble up in to the air with a powerful hit in the community BH4 Arena! Both bots built by @iforgottofocus in the RR2 Discord. The Dreaded Scaling Bug Fix!The Scaling Bug has plagued RR2 since its inception, causing all Shapes (Custom or otherwise) to be the wrong weights compared to real life. The name comes from the fact that scaling a Shape up or down would dramatically increase and decrease its weight compared to its volume. This also resulted in oddities with hollow shapes being the same – or in some cases a higher – weight when compared…
- Robot Rumble 2 - Dev Diary: DocDoyle! - 3 May 2025
Hey hey hey! its the veggiest, the greenest, the doc brocc himself! My real name is Youri, but much better known as DocDoyle, I hail from the Netherlands where I work as a Mechatronics and Robotics engineer for the Dutch Navy. I make stuff pretty much all of the time! And... well... uh... destroy allot of stuff too! Mostly 3D printers and ruggedized electronics really. Oh and something with robots, fighting robots? Wayfarer and Spider Mite battle it out in the Eye of the Storm Arena! Both bots built by @wowitspaul in the RR2 Discord. Epic dramatic backstory: It was probably around 2004 when I first saw Battlebots on TV, I absolutely loved it, but my parents thought that I was too young. That didn't matter, the memory was set. And then, some good time later, around 2014, it popped up on my YouTube: Robogames, Combots and FRA/Robo Challenge. Within a month or so, an obsession was born. An…
- Robot Rumble 2 - Feature Update! - 8 April 2025
Roboteers, stand by! We are pleased to announce the next major update for Robot Rumble 2! This update brings huge improvements to bot AI, some highly requested components, and the first ever new Game Mode: King of the Hill! As always, a full changelog can be found at the end of this post. A huge shower of sparks as Twinzer V4 and Citrus Charge go weapon to weapon! Both bots built by @skyariaviolet on the RR2 Discord. The major feature for this update is the introduction of different Game Modes in Robot Rumble 2! The first new Game Mode we are adding, King of the Hill, mixes up the rules by shifting the focus to holding an objective as opposed to outright destruction. In the centre of the arena is a small zone your bot needs to stay in to earn points towards victory. You'll earn more points if you're the only bot in the zone, so make sure to stake your claim and defend the point with all…
- Robot Rumble 2 - Dev Diary: Liam! - 2 April 2025
Well hello once again guess who's back again, It's me! And in this months release of the Dev Diary we are going to talk about a tool which I am almost in every day called the AMT! (I swear it's not an addiction, I can stop whenever I want!) What is the AMT? The AMT is the Arena Modding Tool, and it is used to make your very own arenas for the game. Truly the only limit is your imagination - whether you want to just go old school and have fights in a car park, or maybe go a bit more wacky fight it out in say, a giant sink? The world is your oyster when it comes to this tool! Why are we talking about it this time? Well, with the next Major Update just around the corner the AMT is ALSO GETTING A MAJOR UPDATE! There will be new functions, new triggers, and even new hazards all designed to bring even more mayhem to your creations. Let me say, as the person who makes the default arenas for RR…
- Robot Rumble 2 - Dev Diary: kupa_! - 1 March 2025
Roboteers, stand by! Hi all, kupa_ here, one of the developers of Robot Rumble 2, here with another Dev Diary update. This month we have been mostly working on improvements to our Arena Mod Tool, adding new features gameplay features to our arenas and, of course, continuing our bug crushing mission. One of the things I would like to take the time to talk about today is our fantastic community. As I have mentioned many times before we wouldn't be anything without the love and support of the wonderful community we have built up over the years and I just wanted to shout out some of the amazing events they have curated. Every month on the Official RR2 Discord we have a community run Bot of the Month competition where all builders are invited to enter their works of mechanical art to be featured on our Discord. Above is a picture of three beautiful bots that won both their respective months…
- Robot Rumble 2 - Dev Diary: Prisma! - 1 February 2025
Roboteers, stand by! Happy Feburary Robot Rumble 2 Community! My name is Brendan aka Prisma, and I am one of the developers from the Robot Rumble 2 Dev Team. In this post I'll be telling y'all more about myself, looking back at 2024 to see what we accomplished, and tease our most-requested feature that we are working on! About Prisma I've been a part of this wonderful game community since December 2020 and have been helping develop since September 2022. I'm very thankful to be a part of the dev team, because my work on Robot Rumble 2 actually helped me get a real job as a Unity developer. A big thank you to Chris for having me on the team and helping pave my future. A lot of my work on Robot Rumble 2 has been quality of life improvements such as the Open Robot Folder button, weld help button, and Discord Rich Presence! In addition, I've helped with figuring out how to get the game to wo…
- Robot Rumble 2 - Feature Update! - 14 January 2025
Roboteers, stand by! We are pleased to announce the next major update for Robot Rumble 2! This update brings with it massive improvements to menu loading times - particularly for people with hundreds of bots - as well as squashing a fair number of bugs and introducing our next, highly requested, major feature: Undo/Redo in the BotLab! As always, a full changelog can be found at the end of this post. A shower of sparks as the beetleweights Satan's Aguacate and Covert Inception collide. Bots built by @blooper_bee on the RR2 Discord. The major feature for this update is the new Undo/Redo in the BotLab! This has easily been one of the most requested features for the game, and one we have been working on getting right for a while now. Such a seemingly small feature can sometimes turn out to be a much bigger puzzle to solve than originally anticipated, but we are proud to finally have this cr…
- Robot Rumble 2 - Dev Diary: Liam - 3 December 2024
Hey Hey! My name is Liam. The crazy one that made the goose known as Honk which, based on the many community images, y'all seem to like using as an a test robot to fight against on your awesome machines! I have been part of the dev team since September of 2022 (how time has flown since then!), my role in the team is making models such as batteries, motors, and shapes to make sure your robots look pretty and destructive. I also make the default as the arenas for you to fight in! The RR2 US arena getting some updated set design changes, coming soon! I originally started playing the game in 2021 but before I even started making robots in the game I, funnily enough, started by making arenas for the community. Over the years I have made roughly over 200 arenas from the normal to the wacky, to replicas from hit tv shows such as Robot Wars and Battlebots, through to live event arenas such as E…
- Robot Rumble 2 - Dev Diary: kupa_! - 29 October 2024
Roboteers, stand by! Hi all! My name is Reece, better known as kupa_, and I am one of the developers of Robot Rumble 2. I have been a part of the project since December 2019 so it is almost my fifth anniversary in the team! Time sure does fly when you're having fun, and it has been a huge honour watching the game, and the community, grow like it has over the years! I originally came on board to build out the tooling and implementation of custom arenas, leading to the Arena Modding Tool and thus the huge amount of player created arenas we have today. Since then I have had my hand in pretty much every aspect of the game with a primary focus on bug-fixes and implementing some of the most popular community requests. Most recently I have been working away on the final implementation of the Undo/Redo system. A clash of titans as Pcore 18s spinner meets the might of Harmacists massive disk! Bo…
- Robot Rumble 2 - Dev Diary: Chris Bruce! - 1 October 2024
Roboteers, stand by! Dear Robot Rumble 2 community, My name is Chris Bruce, and I am the owner of Nerd Island Studios, creators of Robot Rumble 2. It has been a full month since we released the game on Steam, almost five years since we first released the game on itch.io, and over seven years since we started the project with the goal of creating the best robot combat simulator we could make. None of that would have been possible without your support and enthusiasm. Over the next few months we will be shining a spotlight on a different member of the development team. Each will be giving their own take on what it means to be a RR2 developer, and will be sharing some insights into the game dev process. We hope you enjoy the series! Massive sparks fly as the two mighty spinners of Kabagon and Brutal Belial clash! Bots built by Ranking. Since the Steam release of Robot Rumble 2 the team has…
