Today we're sitting down with the dynamic duo behind Jet Lancer, a partnership better known as For the folks reading this who aren't already familiar with you, who are you, what do you do on Jet Lancer? Vladimir: I'm Vladimir, a self-proclaimed artist and game designer on this project. Although in reality, both of us did a little bit of everything while working on Jet Lancer. Nicolai: And I'm Nicolai, mostly a programmer and a bit of everything else when necessary. I also make sure our mountain of code doesn’t come crumbling down. If you were both ACE Pilots, what would your callsigns be? Vladimir: Utah, probably? That was my old nickname I’ve come up with for some milsim game. Nicolai: Call me Bob, because that’s the nonsensical nickname my dad has always called me by for no apparent reason. Secretly I prefer to stay on the ground for the most part. How did you two start working togeth…

- An interview with Jet Lancer's Writer - Cory O'Brien - 24 April 2020
We've teased some information about the story and characters of Jet Lancer, this week we're talking with the force behind those elements. Meet Cory O'Brien, Jet Lancer's writer. For the folks reading this who aren't already familiar with you, who are you, what do you do, what other projects have you worked on? I'm Cory O'Brien! I'm a writer who accidentally ended up in video games, and I'm not mad about it. I used to write a blog where I retold myths like I was drunk on chat, and then I published some books like that, and then I wrote for Monster Prom, and Max Gentlemen: Sexy Business. I also helped design a spooky robot interrogation game called Inhuman Conditions, and I'm currently helping with narrative design for a neon-dystopian social media adventure called HoloVista. You've written on multiple incredible titles at this point- how did you get started with games writing? Like I sai…
- Jet Lancer: Interview with Fat Bard - 15 April 2020
This week we're sitting down with the dynamic duo behind Jet Lancer's music and sound design. Meet Zach Fendelman and Patrick Crecelius, a partnership known as Fat Bard. Photo by Chelsea Dufresne For the folks reading this who aren't already familiar with Fat Bard, who are you, what do you do? P: We’re a music composition and sound design duo for a wide variety of games, from indie hits like Crashlands and Battle Chef Brigade, to IP mobile games like Harry Potter Wizards Unite. We both live in St. Louis, Missouri and have been doing game audio for about 8 years now. Why the name "Fat Bard"? P: We were trying to come up with a name for ourselves and decided to go the “band name” route, where we’re one entity instead of using our actual names. Like a band name we figured as long as it was something short, simple, and memorable that’s all that really mattered. The name “Bard '' was somethi…
- Jet Lancer's Characters - 10 April 2020
We've talked a bit about the story of Jet Lancer- you play as a flight-school burnout trying to make her way in the world, but we wanted to take some time now that we've announced our release date for you to all to learn a little more about the individuals in Jet Lancer. So today we're talking about Jet Lancer's Characters! Ashlyn Leguinn is convinced she's the most deadly thing in the sky, and she might be. After being dishonorably discharged from the academy she pursued any opportunity to get back into the air. She has partnered with Captain Orson Ratskeller, a mercenary working in the Sheltered Sea and has continued to push her limits ever since. She hasn't found a breaking point...yet. Likes: Breaking the sound barrier, being the best, saving the day. Dislikes: Failure, “Safety Precautions” Captain Orson Ratskeller finds himself as the leader of a small, highly effective group of me…

- Jet Lancer's Accessibility Options - 19 February 2020
Jet Lancer is a game that is meant to evoke a feeling of being on the razor's edge. We want every victory to feel like it was hard won, and every defeat to feel like it was only barely out of reach. It is our goal that all players can feel themselves growing as pilots while they play through Story mode and New Game Plus. Today we're going to talk about the in-game options to tailor your experience. Jet Lancer's Accessibility Options The LandscapeBefore we dive into things let’s have a brief recap of Accessibility in games. The Dawn of Video GamesIn the beginning there were no options. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. Then, the first options emerged- difficulty settings, subtitles, inverted controls, and cheat codes. A While AgoMore recently accessibility options across the industry have expanded to include things like colorblind modes, rem…

- DISPATCH_03: Behind the Scenes of New Game+ - 18 September 2019
It’s time we told you the truth— Jet Lancer doesn’t end at the credits. Like many games out there today, Jet Lancer will feature a New Game+ mode which allows players to play through the game again facing new challenges along the way. However, New Game+ for Jet Lancer is far from being the same game but harder, it’s an integral part of the overall experience and we wanted to talk with you about how we’re thinking about its implementation. Welcome to DISPATCH_03: Behind the Scenes of New Game+ Scope Scope creep is an easy trap to fall into, doubly so when it’s regarding features and elements that we’re passionate about. As a core team of two, we have to consider what we can realistically undertake since each new element compounds on our development time. So we asked ourselves a couple questions: How do we create awesome new gameplay experiences using the tools we have already made? How c…
- Jet Lancer locks on for a summer launch - 30 May 2019
After booming, zooming and barrel-rolling through a preview build of Jet Lancer , I’m confident that developers Vladimir Fedyushkin and Nicolai Danielsen (no studio name) are soon to deliver exactly what I wanted from Luftrausers . Obviously inspired by Vlambeer’s twitchy score-attack dogfighter, Jet Lancer wraps its formula in a structured story-heavy campaign set in a very anime post-apocalyptic world. It also has some very large robot bosses to fight and an intensely satisfying dodge roll button. It’s out this summer. Below, a new trailer and some thoughts. (more…)
- DISPATCH_02: A History of Guns - 27 March 2019
Jet Lancer has been in development for a long time. We're feeling nostalgic, so this week I want to show you some of the game's history, some older weapon systems, and a brief look at what we have now. My name is Vladimir, I'm the lead designer of Jet Lancer, and this is DISPATCH_02 A History of Guns A.K.A. How I Almost F****** Up Our Weapons System _________________________________________________________________________ https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F34136609%2F515115f13179390212fcba6837ca856e6a399bcb.gif We started developing the “Planes game” in 2011 and back then it was quite different. It was much more of a simulation; you would take on the role of a Close Air Support pilot, fighting in combat where you felt more like a cog in the machine, trying to influence a battle by taking out key targets and helping your ground troops. Your arsenal consisted…

- Jet Lancer looks like Luftrausers: Super Turbo Edition - 20 December 2018
Not going to beat around the bush – Jet Lancer , an upcoming aerial arcade shooter by Vladimir Fedyushkin and Nicolai Danielsen – looks a whole lot like Vlambeer’s Luftrausers , only more . Big powerful future jetfighters, swirling dogfights, massive robot bosses and if the teaser trailer below is any indication, a thumping soundtrack. This is all fine, and Luftrausers was great and I want more of that, but faster, louder and better. I’ve had half an eye on the development of this one for a while, but only now does it have an official title and trailer, which you really should watch below. (more…)
