• Hellgate: London's original creator announces new Hellgate game - 27 March 2024

  I've not played Hellgate: London , but I'm sure I must've passed it on the shelves in Gamestation (I'll never forget you, friend) way back when. Apparently, the original was a dark fantasy action RPG with roguelike elements and MMO subscription models before developer Flagship Studios shut down. Then it was re-released a bunch of times, with London giving way to Tokyo in one expansion. Now, Hellgate's original creator Bill Roper has announced he's working on a brand new Hellgate game under his new studio Lunacy Games. Read more

• 17 years after Hellgate: London fizzled out, one of the original creators is bringing the series back for an all-new 'triple-A' game - 27 March 2024

  Hellgate: London is the game that will not die. It first launched in 2007 as an action-RPG set in a demon-infested London, but developer Flagship Games went under in 2008 and the game was closed the following year. It re-emerged in 2011 as a free-to-play MMO in South Korea, then took a run at Steam Greenlight in 2014 (which I don't think went anywhere), and then finally launched on Steam several years later, where it continues to get not much attention. • Hellgate: London is coming back, again - 25 October 2018

  Hellgate: London debuted in 2007 with an interesting setup that was brought low by half-baked execution. It went under a couple of years later, came back as a free-to-play MMO that didn't really go anywhere, took a run at Steam Greenlight in 2014, and I'm not really sure what happened after that, to be honest. It's been quite a ride. And it's not over yet, because HanbitSoft, which acquired the rights to the game a decade ago and redeveloped it as Hellgate London: Resurrection in South Korea, is bringing it back to Steam in November.  The description on the Steam page is a little mangled, but the new-old game will apparently be singleplayer (the original was also designed primarily for solo play), and will include the Hellgate: Tokyo content that was planned for Hellgate Global , which ultimately never saw the light of day. Again, it's all kind of confusing…

• Hellgate: London re-relaunches next month with its Tokyo expansion - 24 October 2018

  You can’t keep a good game down, or a messy one either it seems. Over a decade after its stumbling 2007 launch sank developer Flagship Studios, action RPG Hellgate: London is due to return on November 15th, under the stewardship of Korean developer T3 Entertatinment and publisher HanbitSoft. The publisher claim it to be the very latest iteration of the game, complete with the Hellgate: Tokyo expansion that never made it to the original retail version, but had previously surfaced in an earlier (and since discontinued) free-to-play relaunch . • Hellgate: London back from the dead, hits Steam - 24 October 2018

  Hellgate: London is back on Steam . Developer T3 Entertainment and publisher HanbitSoft Inc. are responsible for the return of the infamous dark fantasy action role-playing game, which first launched in 2007 but died a couple of years later after struggling to make money. It's due out on Steam on 15th November 2018. Korean company HanbitSoft bought Hellgate: London from original developer Flagship Studios back in 2010 and relaunched it as a free-to-play game in 2011.
