After playing around with Steam's DRM solution I found that restarting the screensaver through Steam was causing the user power settings to be ignored. Windows would assume the screensaver had terminated and the 'screen off' setting would never trigger. As far as I'm concerned that's too big a price to pay for DRM- you're buying a screensaver, not an invitation for an unintended power bill- so DRM is gone.
