Patch notes for version 1.5.3 — Bite Nite Steam update #268442

Settings are now set to automatic by default. This means that depending on the number of players and the game mode selected, the settings will change to what I consider the best settings (may be changed in the future depending on feedback and more testing). Each setting can be individually overridden so you can still play how you want! The setting "Play with bite button" has been updated to "Play with bite button and wooden stakes". If playing without bite button and wooden stakes, then villagers are not allowed to create wooden stakes (no wood or knives will spawn) and ghosts can't drop stakes for the villagers. This was done because without the bite button, there is only ever one vampire, and it was too easy for the villagers to win by killing the vampire (especially in Rescue mode where the player looks like Dracula so everyone knew who the vampire was).
