These features are intended for the comfort and convenience of our most competitive players, so that they can easily share their results and gain deeper knowledge about this game's movement. Because of this, they are not enabled by default, but they show up as soon as Extended HUD is activated on the Options menu. The timer only resets on New Game, so, no cheating!
