- Update Jun.24.2026: Time Machine Overdrive! - 24 June 2026
Graphics Alpha blending support for world surfaces. Previously, the renderer just did a per-pixel alpha test on them, rendering pixels as either fully opaque or fully transparent - no partial opacity was possible, leading to jagged edges and shimmering against which anti-aliasing is ineffective. Fences, barriers, bushes, and many other world surfaces will look much better! This is the rendering approach used in the very earliest versions of SL1, changed in later Invictus patches. This approach does have its own flaws, but we believe the benefits far outweigh them :) Transparent water in Valo, as seen is earliest SL1 versions. Brighter, more SL1-like water "reflection" effect. World surface reflection effects as seen on water and glass can now be rendered at less than full brightness; Full brightness at SUNNY weather, slight reduction for COLD MORNING, and strong reduction for night. Tra…
- Update Nov.21.2025 - 21 November 2025
Game will no longer crash to mods attempting to load non-existent parts with IDs that DO exist, just don't refer to any specific part in SL1R. For example, a mod originally made for MWM may attempt to install orange neons to a car being generated; Such parts don't exist in SL1R, but a matching ID (of v6_ex_header node) does.
- Update Nov.19.2025 - 19 November 2025
Patch avoiding a Radeon driver bug breaking realtime shadows on RDNA-based GPUs (RX 5000 series and newer).
- Update Nov.14.2025: 123, Pry! - 14 November 2025
Parts Fixed Yotta front bumper 3 side vent texture mapping. Non-drag Badge tyres (Boss, Babe) now have the word "expired" in their names, better fitting their performance and durability levels. Added drag tyres to 4th auto shop. Badge door card material now extends all the way to the glass. Less bad normals for Badge doors. Fixed parts.rpk:0000D120 invalid parent error with some mods made for MWM. Mod shocks and springs made for MWM can now be loaded by the Catalog. Reduced engine block impact resistance from 150% to 125%, better compensating the damage spread change made in the Feb.02.2025 update. Prying In SL1, your car sometimes gets deformed in a way where a part becomes very difficult or even impossible to directly click; With chassis repair requiring all parts to be disassembled, this is a big problem! The pry feature turns this bug into a feature, by allowing you to remove parts…
- Update Jul.04.2025: Hollywood! - 4 July 2025
Garage Fixed first person cash display sometimes not updating. No more hall of mirrors effect from shoving the camera under the floor. Added magic force for keeping cars that are heavily damaged or equipped with terrible tyres from sliding around too much. Fixed a case of first person driving mode not being exited correctly, leading to various small garage bugs, such as infoline not displaying. Returning to garage while in hood / bumper cam won't auto-enter garage first person mode. Greenscreen mode Enter the new cheat "GREENHELL" into the console to activate greenscreen mode! This mode is intended to help with editing images & video effects. Turns the world solid green when activated in garage, turns the sky green when activated anywhere else. In garage, enables sliders for adjusting light direction, and adds buttons for switching envmaps & toggling part mover cheat. Note: First person…
- Update Jun.25.2025: New Force Feedback! - 25 June 2025
Force feedback SL1R's FFB is now compatible with most wheels! FFB strength can be increased all the way up to 500% in the options. Max FFB update rate can be increased from the old 50hz all the way up to 1000hz in the options. Be warned: High update rates can seriously affect framerate! FFB effects are now activated in a fundamentally different way, so FFB can feel different, depending on your wheel. You can revert back to the old FFB in the options. For those who tried the beta: This update improves compatibility even further, so if you had troubles, do try again! :) Misc Moved some options around, again. Added Test Track starting position options. Added CODRIVER2 cheat; This creatively named cheat is just like the regular CODRIVER cheat, but also enables the navigator to rotate. Unlike the regular variant, this can be activated anytime, not just in Race Setup, though dynamic route lin…
- Update for force feedback beta! - 20 June 2025
Previous post for context: https://steamcommunity.com/games/1571280/announcements/detail/537731249563762767 FFB beta has been updated to better handle centering spring effects, which could interfere with or even outright override the rest of FFB, depending on wheel. You can now also increase FFB strength all the way up to 500% in the options. As ever, please let us know of your results, and anything else you'd like to see from SL1R's FFB system! :) To try the beta: Library > Right-click SL1R > Properties... > Betas > Beta Participation > public-beta
- Force feedback beta! - 18 June 2025
New FFB is available in the beta! By using a more conventional approach for communicating with your hardware, SL1R's force feedback should now work with just about every wheel! We've confirmed the beta to awaken these devices: Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel (1998) Moza R3 (modern direct drive base) The beta should also work for just about everything else the FFB of which reportedly previously didn't work with SL1R, such as various Fanatec bases, Logitech Momo, etc... For the wheels where FFB already works, the feel can be different in the beta, depending on how your device implements the effects. You can temporarily toggle back to the old FFB mode by pressing tilde and entering "ffbmode" console command. This does not save between sessions. Let us know of your results after trying the beta: Library > Right-click SL1R > Properties... > Betas > Beta Participation > public-beta…
- Update Jun.02.2025 - 2 June 2025
During input calibration, minimum steering input values close to zero will be rounded to zero to help avoid off-center steering (bad calibration). From undocumented previous small update: Fixed mouse polling rate related camera sensitivity fix not working correctly.
- Major Update May.30.2025: SL REMIX! - 30 May 2025
We all know the cheetah runs faster than the dog, let alone a rusty one... It's just the natural order of things, you'd be crazy to expect it any other way! Or would you? For the nefarious Rusty Dogs have made deals with the Devil to turn Valo's racing scene on its head! Did it work out for them? Find out in SL1R's second Major update! REMIX Mutator Shuffle the clubs! Start out with Category 1 cars as usual, but not necessarily as part of Rusty Dogs Racing Club; How about racing a Remo as part of North West Racing Club in the North end, then a Kurumma with Club Cheetah on West side, an ST9 with the Rusty Dogs in the Southern district, then finishing off as a Speed Maniac in the East with a Furrano? How about any other combo? Start a new career with the REMIX mutator, and see what you get! :) MANIA Mutator This second new mutator is all about keeping the adrenaline pumping! Through the p…
- Update #2 for wheel / controller support beta! - 24 March 2025
Initial post for context: https://steamcommunity.com/games/1571280/announcements/detail/537721107195628017 The beta has again been updated according to feedback received! The previous update helped, but we quickly learned that the system still wasn't versatile enough; So, with this update, we introduce axis calibration! As you bind the controls, you'll be asked to max out any analog input you give - this will make sure the inputs are interpreted correctly, and that the full range of input is actually available to you. In theory, as long as SL1R can pick up your controller's input at all, it should now be able to correctly interpret just about anything! Again, please do let us know if this works as well as we hope it does! :) Even if you had no issues with wheel / controller support before these betas, we'd still appreciate feedback on this system from you, as these changes would ultimat…
- Update for wheel / controller support beta! - 20 March 2025
Previous post for context: https://steamcommunity.com/games/1571280/announcements/detail/537721107195628017 The beta has been updated according to feedback received! SL1R should now properly handle devices that send inverted signals (100% at rest, 0% fully pressed), as some pedals do. This previously caused choice paralysis for the input binding system (many "active" axis when you're not actually pressing anything), and even if you were able to bind them, your throttle would've been stuck wide open until you stomp it shut with your foot :D Please let us know if the changes we've made work as well as we hope they do :) Library > Right-click SL1R > Properties... > Betas > Beta Participation > public-beta Thanks and stay tuned!
- Wheel / controller support beta! - 4 March 2025
What's going on? Ever since the first public versions of SL1R, we've read of players having troubles with wheel & controller support on the forums. With a limited selection of controllers available on hand (none of which are affected by the issue), and various other issues (relevant for more than a subset of players) demanding our attention, we've been slow to get around to starting to untangle the input handling intricacies of the Invictus Engine (we at ImageCode are not the original developers of SL1 & SLRR, remember :)). Nice excuses, so what's this beta about? If you've been unable to bind controls for your wheel or controller, with SL1R simply displaying "Waiting for input..." in the lower left corner, try the beta! Library > Right-click SL1R > Properties... > Betas > Beta Participation > public-beta. Then let Steam install the beta and launch SL1R! In-game You should now be able t…
- Update Feb.02.2025: Vision REVision! - 2 February 2025
Video Added in-game option for MSAA. Defaults to 4x. If you see a performance regression, this is probably why. Added option for vertical sync. Added options for texture filtering. Results can vary per GPU vendor / generation; Reduce this if surfaces appear oversharpened. Doesn't meaningfully affect performance. These basics no longer need to be forced via graphics driver :) Damage When a body part is fully destroyed from an impact, damage to chassis is now applied from the point of impact, not the part's attachment point. This means no more weird stretched engine bays from impacting the hood, or stretched rears from ripping off rear bumpers. Damage is more predictable, and more varied now. Reduced how much health far-away parts lose from chassis impacts - you're much less likely to shed ALL parts from a big impact now. This change does not apply to imported SLRR cars, as the extra dama…
- Update Oct.20.2024 - 19 October 2024
Maps Removed a bunch of misplaced wall filler objects inside North East and North End. Plugged some of the most obvious holes in walls in these areas, too. Adjusted positions for some city objects. Fixed a missing window texture near North End BlueCat terminal. Fixed "Zolle" buildings using wrong window textures. Fixed floating Test Track runway signs. These can also be knocked over now. Misc Nitro-equipped racers driving an I4 Codrac will no longer use the stock hood, as the N2O injector doesn't fit under it. Repairing an assembled part removed using the MONKEYWRENCH cheat will no longer temporarily reset the positions of moved attachments. Updated credits.
- Update Oct.14.2024: Dual Barrel! - 14 October 2024
Random bodykit discounts Custom bodywork will randomly be discounted at auto shops! The discount is typically -25%, with some exceptions. The discounts make the prices similar to stock equivalents. Discounts are applied per bodykit (same grouping as for coloring). Discount RNG is re-rolled every couple races won. Value of purchased discounted parts is permanently reduced - this means you can't sell them for profit, but repairs will be cheaper. Why only bodykits? Because discounting these doesn't screw with career balance, as performance characteristics of these parts are largely identical to stock. Exhaust & related Added dual exhaust variant for Zed. This will come by default with supercharged cars featuring the dual header. Added another variant of rear bumper 3, with dual exhaust cutouts. Improved surface normals for several stock exhaust pipes. Fixed several cases of dual exhaust as…
- Update Sep.28.2024: Mirror!!rorriM - 28 September 2024
Valo City Cleaned up / fixed positioning of various decorative objects. Phones & various benches now have physics. Fixed a missing skyscraper texture inside West Side. Fixed ~100 cases of West Side building Z-fighting. Car generation Fixed a bug with mirror & wing generation, causing excessive prevalence of highest-end style at the dealer / in use by racers. Fixed excessively frequent missing lights on Coyot, Codrac & Sunset trunks. High-end Badge used by a racer may now come with "Detroit" wheels (drag tyres). This almost always happens if the TURBO career mutator is set. Badge used by a racer may now come with side exhausts. Slightly less rare Remo trunk wing. Furrano & Naxas may now come with a wing. Fixed minor unwanted opponent car randomization every time a TURBO-mutated career is loaded. Mirrors Fixed & improved Whisper mirrors 2 & 3. Added another stock mirror variant for Whispe…
- Update Sep.24.2024 - 23 September 2024
Fixed render breaking or game crashing upon race start after using photo mode. Fixed pause menu appearing upon pressing Esc in photo mode, if activated while first person mode is active. First person hotkey is no longer active in photo mode - use Esc to exit instead! Fixed Esc confirming instead of cancelling repair.
- Update Sep.19.2024: Crash Photography! - 19 September 2024
Gas stations Gas station locations are now 'inked' onto the map upon discovery. Find all 7 to earn a Steam Achievement! Photo mode / camera rail editor 'Press TAB to hide OSD' text is now shown in photo mode outside of Garage, where main menu and thus full list of controls is not available. Fixed 'look here' preview arrow not getting removed upon place-by-mouse cancel. Fixed Rail UI sometimes failing to show up after changing section. Fixed various issues caused by using camera rail editor without a car. Rail speed slider units now respect Kanada mode. OSD is now automatically hidden/shown with Play/Preview/Stop. Added prompt to press Num0 to unfreeze & start driving after Shift+Play. Auto-refreeze on Stop if was in driving mode & frozen at start. Plugged many horrible memory leaks - you can now play with camera rails all day without worrying of the game crashing! Valo & test track sect…
- Update Sep.11.2024: Sputter & Flutter! - 11 September 2024
Trick doors Individually fine-tuned butterfly doors for all cars! Suicide doors for Coyot rear! Exclusively available at auto shops, sometimes used by opponents, too. Do a 1/4 mile in under 8 seconds with these doors installed to earn a Steam Achievement! With these 34 additional parts, total unique part count now exceeds 1100! Auto shops Improved shop 2 & 3 lighting. Slightly faster walk speed. Part arrangement improvements for all shops. Unique envmaps for all shops. Fixed excessive front door reach. Fixed front door being clickable in photo mode. First person mode Reduced deceleration jitter. Improved player hull physics - less keen to climb stuff (like pushed cars). More weighty movement. Standing on toes is now a toggle that requires both pressing and releasing shift while standing still. This keeps the obscure movement feature from briefly flicking the view up upon pressing shift…
