- Two is better than one + getting back to a regular communication. - 26 May 2026
First of all, I apologize to all of you for the lack of communication in 2025 and 2026. The old me who was eager to share any sneak peeks or videos back at the start of the project really needs to get back here! Several things have changed since the end of last year regarding the development and I'll explain more below! Overall, the goal is to get back to a regular posting here and on socials, in order to show the progress on the game and give a better idea of the road map. The community has been really patient and understanding so far but it's time for me to step up and be more communicative about the news, sneak peeks and updates for the game. We are planning to post a roadmap of our own making to show what are our next plans for 2026. Onboarding of my friend Damien on the project & being full time on the game to speed up the development of the game.Beginning of last year, I realized…
- Update on development and small Christmas Q&A with Infinity Area (in French) - 24 December 2024
Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing well and that you survived this past year. The development for Derelicts has been going steady and I've been working a lot on optimization during the first semester, and focused a lot on rewriting code and cleaning up my project for the second part, so I can start the real world building and focus on the core gameplay mechanics. I'm really excited to start this phase as I'll have a lot more to show for in the coming months. Together with Florian, a friend working on the website Infinity Area, we made a small written Q&A (that one was in French only so be sure to use your favorite translator) that you can find at the following link: https://infinity-area.com/article/interview-exclusive-sur-le-jeu-derelicts-un-jeu-de-survie I wish you all a Merry Christmas with family and friends. I'll see you in 2025 with more content and updates! Romain
- July Recap! - 1 August 2024
Hey everyone! I’m Jordan from Hashtag Survival, here to help Romain keep you updated on Derelict’s progress and take some load off his plate. Last month was packed with updates: we released a two-part Q&A series, published a short video highlighting the tree chopping mechanic, and (though it’s a day late, we’re counting it as July) here’s a video of Romain showcasing his progress and giving you a peek at a slice of the world so far. We’ll see you at the end of the month with more news and the next recap. Don’t forget to sign up for a free Patreon account to get alerts when things are posted, or come hang out in the Discord if that’s more your style! Q&A Part 1 Q&A Part 2 YouTube Clip: Tree Chopping
- June News! - 28 June 2024
Hello everyone!👋 I hope your week went well. I know I've been quiet on the teasers and updates front for a while and I apologize- so much to do to have great foundations and optimize all my assets and gamepaly code for the game! I used the past months to prepared most of the optimization and be sure that the mold of the game will allow me to scale up some systems in an efficient way (building, AI, level design). I was focused on making the game run as well as possible, trying to target older builds as well as offering more recent techs for the newer ones (DLSS, FSR, Frame Generation, Xess). The next weeks/months will be really exciting as I'll have a lot more to show in 2024 now that I'm entering the real "visual" part of building the game. I just posted a news update to Patreon with more details, viewable by all, with some new images and other news- so check it out! At the moment, I h…
- Vestiges at dusk. - 11 July 2023
Hi everyone! I hope you're all doing well. I have been progressing a lot for the past month. I've been delayed on some of my mechanics that I wanted to polish and optimize a lot more, such as the building system. I'm trying to get a good performance while players can still build a thousand of stuff on screen. This is hard but really worth it in the long run. It's also taking a lot longer to optimize the levels in an efficient way, so your GPU doesn't die while playing. My goal is that the game can run at least smoothly on former GPUS, without DLSS on, which is really a challenging part while trying to keep everything realistic. But I know I'll get there! I've been playing a lot with Unreal Engine 5 features recently and will offer the choice to unable a lot of really performance-heavy options such as Nanite and Lumen for players who cannot afford more recent GPUs. But don't worry, all t…

Hi everyone! I hope your week is starting well and your weekend was nice. - I'm working on making the nights really dark... - 31 October 2022
Hello everyone. I hope you are doing well. Development has been really great the past weeks and I'm making a really good progress. Recently, I've started to work on the map, choosing the right type of foliage (good-looking and as optimized as possible) and the right type of textures/materials in order to run the game the best way possible. I've also been looking into Virtual Textures and they should drastically improve the framerate of the game as well if used! Overall, a lot of work on optimization and choosing the right things before proceeding to build the full world! I wish you a great week! Romain
- Some short gameplay while I'm working on optimization! - 17 August 2022
I'm still working hard on Derelicts and I'm looking forward to show you some new mechanics soon!
- A new friend... - 5 July 2022
Hello guys! I hope you enjoyed your weekend. I've recently been working on a new creepy enemy that will give you a good scare at night, crawling in the bushes! I'm trying to add innovative ideas concerning foes and work a lot on their AI, to make them behave in a more interesting way than most survival games. My main model for this is The Forest, in which the AI is really well done and make the enemies work in groups or sometimes afraid of the players.
