- Steam Deck: Shipping Update - 19 September 2022
Hello, just a quick note about shipping today. As some folks on the internet have noticed (we see you Reddit!), we're speeding through reservations at an accelerated pace. This is due to increased production, and we've beaten our own estimates yet again. With today’s batch of emails we’ve now sent invitations for all reservations in the Q3 (July-September) bucket. Now that Q3 is done early, we're going to get a head start on the next set of reservations, and are fulfilling reservations that were scheduled for the Q4 window. - Steam Deck repair centers are now online! - 9 September 2022
We are happy to announce today that our new Steam Deck repair centers are now open. If you encounter an issue and need to send your Steam Deck for repair or replacement, devices will now go to one of our repair centers. Once there, our team will diagnose the device, repair if needed, then ship the fixed unit back to you. Repairs for issues covered by warranty are free of charge. If a Steam Deck comes in that is not covered by warranty, our team will reach out and offer to repair the device for a fee (if a repair is possible). This out-of-warranty repair service is completely optional, and you can ask for your device back if you prefer. And of course, if you prefer to fix things yourself - repair kits, replacement parts, and guides are all available at iFixit. We are happy to announce today that Steam Deck is expanding to more regions. With the help of Komodo, Steam Deck will ship later this year in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. We have worked with the team at Komodo for years, and are excited to have their help as our authorized reseller of Steam Deck in these regions. Komodo has just opened reservations on their website here at steamdeck.komodo.jp. Customers with reservations in these new regions will be able to order their Steam Decks starting later this year. The Komodo reservation queue is separate from the reservation queue in NA / UK / EU regions, so the timing of order emails in the currently shipping regions isn't impacted by this announcement. - Steam Deck production update (it's good news) - 29 July 2022
Hello! We're excited to announce that we're going to be able to fulfill demand sooner than we had estimated for everyone in the reservation queue. Many of the supply chain shortfalls that affect Steam Deck are gradually clearing up, and we're continuing to ramp production, so we're able to produce more Decks faster than ever before. As of today we've updated the reservation windows, and everyone who's currently in the reservation queue will get their Steam Deck email this year. Many customers who were in the "Q4 or later" window have been bumped up to "Q3 (July-September)" window. And everyone else is now solidly in the "Q4 (October-December)" window. As of this moment, new reservations will be in the Q4 bucket, but if these queues fill up it will flip over into the following quarter. - Steam Deck Docking Station Delayed - 1 June 2022
Hi all. Due to parts shortages and COVID closures at our manufacturing facilities, the official Steam Deck Docking Station is delayed. We're working on improving the situation and will share more info when we have it. This has no effect on production schedule and reservation windows for Steam Decks (different parts, different factories). In the meantime the team is continuing to work on improving the docked experience for Steam Deck with all USB-C hubs and external displays.
- The SteamOS 3.2 Update - 26 May 2022
Hello! We've just shipped an update to SteamOS - we're up to 3.2 now, and it's full of some great updates and improvements to Steam Deck. Refresh Rate Players now have the option to adjust the in-game screen refresh rate on the fly. The default is 60Hz (which can be frame-limited to 60, 30, and 15fps), but you can now slide it down to 40Hz (with frame limits at 40, 20, and 10fps). Or any number (integer) between those two settings. This feature is great for finding that perfect balance between framerate, game quality, and battery life. Pro-tip, we have found that 40Hz tends to be a sweet spot for responsiveness, consistency, and smoothness*. And of course, you can save this setting on a per-game basis. - The Lock Screen Update - 25 April 2022
Today we shipped a bunch of updates to Steam Deck that improve Steam, Steam OS, and Steam Deck firmware. You can read the full patch notes here, but here's a high level look at what's changed. We're adding a new feature to Steam Deck today to support gathering feedback from players by asking direct questions about your experiences. (This is an opt-in feature: we'll ask you once if you're open to answering questions, and you can opt out at any time.) The initial data we're gathering in this way is about titles that are Steam Deck Verified. We're able to collect objective data (crashes, etc.) to help us understand how well the technical side of our review process is working, but ultimately the Deck compatibility ratings are about the overall experience: the definition of "working well" is succeeding at enabling current and future Deck customers to find the experiences they want. We want to make sure we're doing that, or identify the titles for which your experiences don't match your expectations. Hello! Have we mentioned Steam Deck is a PC? Like any other PC, you can install other applications and OSes if you'd like. For those interested in installing Windows, you'll need a few additional drivers to have the best experience. Links to these, along with notes for installing Windows on Steam Deck can be found here. While Steam Deck is fully capable of dual-boot, the SteamOS installer that provides a dual-boot wizard isn't ready yet. Also for now, you can only install Windows 10. What it means Whenever we talk about compatibility rating numbers, we emphasize that this is just a snapshot of a single moment, and that ratings change over time. - Steam Deck: Q1 Shipping Details - 25 February 2022
Hi! Happy launch day! We’ve seen some questions about what it means to be in the Q1 reservation group, and when these folks will receive their emails. Here’s how it breaks down. All people who are in the Q1 reservation window on the Steam Deck store page will receive an order email by the end of March. (Q1 is Quarter 1, or January through March). The first batch of emails has already gone out this morning. The next batch of emails will go out on Monday, March 7th. (It turns out the logistics work out better if we don’t try to ship over a weekend.) We’ll continue sending emails to Q1 reservers in the order their reservations were made on a weekly basis through the end of March (March 14th, 21st, 28th) In April, we’ll start going through the Q2 queue in a similar fashion. We’re working through our production schedules, and will have news soon for folks in the After-Q2 bucket.

Thought we would send along some details for what you can expect on Friday, February 25th: Starting at 10am Pacific, we'll be sending emails out to the first batch of reservation holders via the address tied to their Steam account. Those folks will then have 72 hours to complete their purchase on Steam for the specific model they reserved. If they cancel or do not purchase in this time frame, we'll release their reservation to the next person in the queue. Around the same time is when you'll start seeing coverage from the roughly 100 media outlets we sent early review units to, so there will be a ton of interesting content and coverage for everyone to check out.
