- Update 1.10 - 16 August 2026
Hi everyone! Another technical update has been uploaded with some small changes and fixes for minor issues. The main change is that the rotation mechanics (nuts, winch, valve, etc.) should now work more consistently regardless of FPS. Previously, some players experienced issues with the rotation speed on certain PCs.By the way, I’d also like to take this opportunity to announce that Hail to the Rainbow is participating in the Lilac Spark Award. If you’d like to support the project, you can vote for it in the People’s Choice Award category using the link. There’s not much time left before voting closes.Thank you all so much for your support!
- Update 1.08 - 4 June 2026
A small technical update, version 1.08, has been released. Some of the game's core system files have been reworked to improve build stability.Shader memory retention has been disabled, which could previously lead to cache overflow issues. Shader loading speed should remain unchanged overall.Added an FPS limit setting. VSync does not always work correctly, so on lower-end systems a manual FPS cap can sometimes provide smoother gameplay.Slightly improved optimization for Steam Deck on Ultra settings.
- Article about the project’s development. Working with lighting. - 17 April 2026
Hi everyone! I’ve published a new article on Habr about working with lighting in Hail to the Rainbow. Unfortunately, it’s only available in Russian.I’ve had a series of development-focused articles planned for a long time, but before the release I just couldn’t find the time to publish them. In this one, I cover various methods and approaches to lighting, including lightmapping, shadow setup, and a few practical tricks.I hope it will be interesting for those who are curious about the inner workings of game development. Thanks, everyone! - Update 1.06 Cloud Saves - 5 February 2026
Hello everyone! Update 1.06 has been released, and cloud saves have been added. An important clarification: the original save system that uses the registry is still in place, but now all key data is also duplicated into a text file, which is updated periodically during gameplay and when exiting the game. Since there is a large amount of data across all levels, the file stores only the player’s main progress on the last unlocked level, along with player statistics, viewed terminals, books, and similar data. After applying cloud saves, intermediate levels will also become available, but the state of objects on those levels may be incorrect if that data was lost. Data from the file is not imported automatically. If the game detects cloud saves, a notification will appear in the intro. If needed, this notification can also be triggered by holding the S key (in the intro as well). If you enco…

Hi everyone! Happy upcoming New Year! Thank you all so much for supporting Hail to the Rainbow. I’m really happy that the game resonated with so many of you and left a positive impression. - Update 1.05 - Gamepad and Steam Deck support. - 24 December 2025
Hi everyone! For some time, I’ve been reworking the input system in the game. Due to issues with gamepad functionality, I decided to migrate the project to Unity’s new Input System, which required rewriting all input-related functions. I hope this will help resolve problems with devices that previously worked incorrectly or were not detected at all. Vibration now works on the DualSense controller as well, and at startup a red light indicator is activated for testing purposes. I may later refine and implement more detailed light feedback throughout the entire game. Also, the project has finally received the green compatibility checkmark for Steam Deck! I personally tested everything on the device and hope I didn’t miss anything. In addition to the above, many small fixes were made, and a number of issues causing crashes on some PCs were addressed. The game should now run more stably. Tha…
- Update 1.04 - 10 December 2025
Hi everyone! Update 1.04Main changes:Fixed some minor bugs, including an issue with activating the assembly mode at the workbench.Fixed the book collection counter in the village. The bug allowed players to receive points multiple times for the same books.Added a button to Photo Mode for capturing a frame. The frame is saved to a separate folder (the path will be shown during the process). With Full HD resolution you can now take 4K screenshots. A button to quickly open the folder is also added (PC only).Added another capacitor energy counter on the left side of the SII, so you no longer need to open the item list to check it.Steam Deck should now automatically display the correct button icons. I’ve sent it to Valve for approval to get the green compatibility badge.
- Update 1.03 - 6 December 2025
Hi everyone! Update 1.03.The main change: I’ve added an option in the settings to assign both the accelerator and reverse in the car to a single gamepad button. For reference, this could already be done on the keyboard in the keybinding section. You can read about the other minor changes here https://steamcommunity.com/app/1699230/discussions/0/695372074210916959/
- The Soundtrack Is Out! - 4 December 2025
Hello everyone! A week has already passed since the game’s release. The first days were not easy — there was a lot of excitement, feedback, messages, fixes, and so on. But I am very happy with how the audience overall received this project, and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported Hail to the Rainbow, played it, and shared your impressions and thoughts! Once again, I want to note that I read everything, take your suggestions and recommendations into account, pick some things to work on, and plan to make certain adjustments in the future to make the game feel more comfortable. That was a small preface. In this post, I want to announce that the soundtrack, composed by the talented Nobody's Nail Machine, has also been released! It’s a great opportunity to support the author! The package includes 23 tracks in MP3 format as well as high-quality audio in FLAC. You can chec…
- Update 1.02 - 2 December 2025
Guys, update 1.02-From the main things — it seems the achievement issue has been fixed; sometimes the registration didn’t go through, especially after deleting the game data and restarting. -Patched some spots where the player could fall through the textures. -On Easy difficulty, made battery consumption for books and locked boxes almost zero. -Other than that, small fixes across the locations. https://steamcommunity.com/app/1699230/discussions/0/695372074210916959/ Update. A bug was found in one of the scripts, so I reuploaded the build. It’s better to update once more — it’s only 6 MB.
- Update 1.01 - 30 November 2025
Hello everyone! The first update after release has been uploaded — version 1.01.I apologize for not replying often in the discussions. It’s a difficult period after release, I’m working alone, my inbox is overflowing, and there is still a lot of work. But I regularly monitor feedback and threads with problems. A detailed list of changes for the update will be in a pinned post in the discussions. https://steamcommunity.com/app/1699230/discussions/0/695372074210916959/ P.S. The main three issues I tried to fix are: crashes/freezes, video glitches on some Steam Decks, and gamepad problems. I would appreciate it if those who had these issues could later write here whether anything has changed after the update. Thank you! PS2. I really hope I didn’t break anything. With such a short timeframe it’s hard to recheck everything, and any changes can affect something in a non-obvious way. But I’ll…

- The work is almost finished! - 13 October 2025
Hello everyone! It’s been a long time since the last update. I’m happy to report that the project is doing well — I’ve spent the entire year refining the game, polishing and testing it extensively. Unfortunately, there’s been almost no time left for posting updates.Right now, I’m running the final tests, after which I’ll start working on the release trailer. The release is planned for the end of this year — either late November or early December. I think the game’s atmosphere will fit nicely with the autumn–winter season :)While the release trailer isn’t ready yet, here’s a small teaser compilation to draw some attention.
- New Year and a new article about the game's development. - 30 December 2024
Greetings, friends! A new article about the development of the Hail to the Rainbow project has been published on Habr, though unfortunately, it is currently only available in Russian. This part focuses on the creation of 3D content, materials, and surface shaders. The previous introductory part, which is available in English, can be found here. I hope this material will be interesting for those who enjoy exploring the behind-the-scenes aspects of game development. Article. Taking this opportunity, I’d like to share an important update regarding the upcoming release. It was initially planned for the first quarter of 2025, but the experience with the demo has shown that such an ambitious project requires more thorough polishing and testing. I want to complete everything without rushing or stress, so the release timeline will need to be slightly adjusted. I won’t provide any estimates at t…
