- 🏭 Milling Machine Simulator 2: Machine Shop is coming - wishlist it now - 24 September 2026
The successor to Milling Machine Simulator is in the worksFor years you have been milling, turning and programming in Milling Machine Simulator, and many of you asked for more machines, a better look and a real workshop instead of a garage. That is exactly what Milling Machine Simulator 2: Machine Shop is. It is a new game, built on the same real-time material removal simulation you know, but everything around it has been rebuilt from scratch. Wishlist it now on Steam: Milling Machine Simulator 2: Machine Shop One machine shop, all the machinesNo more loading a separate scene per machine. All machines stand in one industrial hall and you walk from station to station.Five machines: manual mill, manual lathe, CNC mill, CNC lathe and a 5-axis CNC mill.An inspection bench where you take a finished part off the machine, look at it up close and put it on the shelf next to your other work.Buil…
- 🛠️ Update 1.74 - Milling Machine Controller and Thread Tapping - 24 September 2026
The Milling Machine Controller DLC is now available. It is a do-it-yourself kit: you build a physical three-handwheel controller from off-the-shelf parts and use it to drive the X, Y and Z axes of the manual mill. Nothing is shipped; you get the print files, parts list, firmware and a step-by-step guide. A separate announcement with all the details follows. Milling MachinesNew CavTap M10 tool that cuts real internal threads in the workpiece. The manual mill can be jogged with the physical handwheel controller from the new DLC. Lathe MachinesFixed the tool post mounting tools on the wrong side of the plate in some machine positions. All MachinesBetter frame rate thanks to faster rendering of machine parts and the user interface. General and UINew Controller tab in Settings with a switch for the physical handwheel and a live connection status. The Controller tab has a "Save DIY files" butto…
- 🛠️ Update 1.73 - Sharper Machined Edges, Better Coolant & CNC Fixes - 15 August 2026
Milling machines Added a new meshing algorithm - Dual Contouring. It produces sharp corners and smoother curved surfaces on the machined workpiece, where the classic algorithm rounds them off. It is more demanding on the GPU, so you can choose between the two algorithms in the settings. Lathe machines Coolant is now dragged and flung around by the spinning workpiece. Coolant droplets no longer get swallowed by the spinning workpiece and fall through it. The measurement is now hidden while the workpiece is spinning and reappears when the spindle stops. CNC machines A program entered in MDI (Manual Data Input) now stops automatically after its last line, even when the program has no M2/M30 at the end. The program speed multiplier can now also be lowered by right-clicking it; left-clicking still raises it. Typing with multiple lines selected in the G-code editor now replaces the whole sele…
- 🛠️ In the Works: A New Algorithm for Sharper Workpiece Detail - 11 August 2026
What we're working on The workpiece in the simulator is made of millions of tiny volume elements (voxels). The current algorithm that turns them into a visible surface averages the shape between voxels — which rounds off sharp edges and softens fine detail on your cuts. We are replacing it with a new algorithm that also remembers the exact direction of the tool surface at every point of the cut. Instead of guessing where the edge is, it reconstructs it precisely. What this means for you Sharp edges stay sharp — corners, steps and chamfers look the way the tool actually cut them Flat faces stay truly flat instead of slightly wavy Small features like grooves and shoulders keep their detail The image below shows the same cut with the current algorithm and with the new one. This is still in development — milling is already working, lathe support is in progress. Your existing saved workpiece…
- 🛠️ Update 1.72 - Macros, Surface Finish and a Brand-New G-Code Editor - 20 July 2026
All Machines Surface finish quality now depends on feed rate and spindle speed. Improved drawing on the workpiece and optimized the finishing texture. Workpieces are automatically rotated 90 degrees when needed to fit vise and chuck jaws. If a workpiece does not fit the clamp, a separate message explains why. Fixed holes appearing in the workpiece in some cases. Fixed shavings showing up when there was no material to remove. Fixed a freeze when switching clamps while chunks were still queued for remeshing. CNC Milling and CNC Lathe Added macro functions and operators (SIN, COS, SQRT, ABS, arithmetic and logic expressions). Added macro flow control: IF, WHILE and GOTO. Faster G-code parsing, and fixed parsing of bracketed expressions. Fixed negated macro variables (X-#101) being dropped from motion blocks. The tool changer now mounts the active tool from the CNC tools table. Reworked con…
- 🛠️ Update 1.71 - New demo camera, exact stock sizes, FPS mode, and other fixes - 3 July 2026
This update adds a cinematic "show" camera, a first-person workshop walkaround, smarter G-code, and a long list of fixes. Here's everything that's new. ✨ NewShow camera (F4) — automatically follows your program and frames the action as it runs. On the lathe it keeps a good angle on the cut and stays clear of the chuck and tool holder.First-person mode (F3) — walk around the workshop on foot. Cross-machine workpieces — open a part you made on a different machine and keep working on it.Quick zero-point buttons — set your program's origin to a corner, edge or center of the stock in one click.Automatic tool groups — tools are now organized into groups in the tool list.More canned cycles — additional drilling and boring cycles supported in G-code.Wider subprogram support — both call formats (M97 local and M98 O-program) now run correctly, whichever style your program uses.Example G-code — sa…
- 🎉 First Working Prototype: Dedicated Hardware Controller! - 25 June 2026
🎉 First Working Prototype: Dedicated Hardware Controller! We've got something special to share with you today — the first working prototype of our dedicated MillingMachine controller is alive! 🕹️Instead of using your mouse and keyboard, imagine reaching for real handwheels to move the axes, just like on an actual machine. That's exactly what we're building: a custom physical controller with real encoders and a 3D-printed housing, designed to make the simulation feel more authentic than ever. For now, the controller is set up for the Manual Milling Machine, but it's just the beginning — we'll explore support for the other machines down the road. This is still an early prototype, but it already works — turning the handwheels moves the machine in real time. There's plenty of refinement ahead (housing, ergonomics, more controls), but we're thrilled with how it feels so far. We'll be using…
- 🛠️ Update 1.70 - HOTFIX - 25 June 2026
🛠️ Bug Fixes- Fixed a crash and broken cutting that could occur after a piece was cut off the workpiece and the remaining part was re-clamped. Cutting now continues to work correctly after re-clamping.🚧 What's Next- We're actively working on a big new update packed with improvements and brand-new features. Stay tuned — there's a lot more coming soon! Thanks to everyone who reported this and for your continued support! As always, keep the feedback coming. 🙏
